I needed a palette cleanser from the comic for a moment - so here is my take on "The Substance" movie poster.

This movie was fantastic!

The performances are top-notch. The technical quality is flawless, with sound design and mixing taking center stage. If the director wants you to hear chewing, it’ll sound like the mic is in their mouth. Like the rest of the movie, every detail is intentionally in-your-face, designed to unsettle.

Coralie Fargeat’s distinct style is present in every single shot. Working alongside cinematographer Benjamin Kracun, she uses vibrant, contrasting colors to craft a surreal 1980s-inspired hellscape for the character Sparkle to traverse. Clever nods to filmmakers like Roman Polanski and Stanley Kubrick amplify the film’s sinister atmosphere, with wide-angle lenses and extreme close-ups heightening the tension. The intricate production design further elevates the unsettling visuals, creating a powerful, eerie aesthetic.

The Substance just does more; It’s not just about metaphors and more profound meanings; this whole film genuinely delivers.
