It was released around the same time in 2014 , when ballonersim was created. It's such a beautiful album and one of SZA's most underrated.

He had me smiling one minute and crying my eyes out the next (funny papers and ricks piano in particular). It still hurts but I’m so grateful we were blessed with another project. The whole song is him “drowning” in a drug overdose simultaneously listening to the past (children playing), present (phone ringing in the distance), and future (the constant “coo-coo-coo” motif I feel represents death, like a raven perching by the window waiting for his soul’s ascension). Mac knew how he was going to die and gave us a glimpse into what would go through his head when the time came. Haunting.

I know that now she is better and healthier I won’t have to ever worry about it again, but I used to hear the same phone ring over and over again just to hear the automated voicemail message. The last song hurt me so bad thinking of mac’s friends calling him and never hearing him pick up again.

Time actually does speed up as we age because of the way we measure time. 1 year when you are 8 years old is 1/8 of your entire lived experience. It feels like it takes forever for your birthday to come back around. At 40, a year is only 1/40th of your life. Quite literally represents a much smaller amount of time based on your lived experience. Exactly why a year feels like it flies by in your 40s compared to your teens. Time isn't actually moving faster, but the way we measure time stays static while our perspective dynamically changes. *If you haven't seen Interstellar, definitely worth a watch.

The other book, by Paul Cantor (I believe that's his name?), has been denounced by Mac's friends and family. I've seen people say they prefer the latter, but I'm not supporting the author who released it against their wishes. Also, TBOM actually has interviews and whatnot, whereas the other book is just put together using publicly available information and speculates a lot.

He was constantly working on loads of projects at once, probably just didn't feel like he wanted to release it. I'm sure close friends like Q or his brother were told what he wanted to do with certain songs or projects if he died.
