Dad Reacts to Run The Jewels - RTJ4

Thanks to all who recommended RTJ!

Cheers,

Kevin & Connor

Comments

I requested these for so long. Pleaseeeee do the first 3 albums

Sergio Mendez

Here rewatching in December, 1-3 would be legendary, 2 & 3 are some of my favorite albums of all time

Mae Hunter

I know this is late but you should listen to the remix of JUST from toy selectah I think it’s so fun. Not usually a huge remix person

emmett

You must listen to Rage Against the Machine!

cupcakes

I came here to say this. There is no way Kevin wouldn't lose his shit over Rage against the machine

cupcakes

please more RTJ, been waiting!

Kawactus

Please consider doing R.A.P music instead of Michael. I know Michael got the Grammy cause it had the single but RAP music is still his consensus best and it’s fully produced by EL-P.

Keller

please listen to The Great Impersonator by Halsey!!!!

Hays Fischer

Hey I bet your dad wants to do Mercurial World 😉

Nathan Madlem

Chromakopia soon?

David Ellis

Maybe it could be a kevin solo, But could yall react to I've - IVE or Formula Of Love - Twice. It would be a fun listen

curserevel

Probably got a lot of requests already but I need Chromakopia

Jonas_trnw

Yo please finish the outkast albums, give us speekerbox/thelovebelow 😔🙏

Jace Eastman

I would love for you guys to react to Zach Bryan's self titled or TGABS.

Sam Jarrett

+ 1

Jason Novak

oh, i definitely don't disagree . he's a stronger rapper on a technical level and always has great production. kevin was just talking about reacting to michael so i figured it was the most relevant suggestion. cancer4cure would also be cool to see

linsii

it is time to react to an uzi album EA2 is dropping next week

Aubrey Graham

Would love to see yall react to RTJ 3 & 2. RTJ2 Is definitely my favorite of theirs but if yall loved this you'll love both of those I think

MrCameronFord

Man, I'm so glad you did this. I've loved a ton of albums this decade that I think are legit perfect. Denzel's MMESYF, Lupe's DMIZ, JID's TFS, Simz's SIMBI, Cole's Offseason, Conway's GDMM, etc. But this is still my favorite of the decade, and I legitimately think the best of the decade. The impact this had when it dropped during covid, during BLM, was immense, and I cannot think of an album that is more strongly associated with a period of time in the world than this one in recent memory. This album deserves to be a classic that survives decades after.

Maadhav

Personally EL-P has the stronger solo catalog. So much interesting, experimental production and fuck it imma say it: he’s a more interesting rapper than Killer Mike

Fin Arthurs

Since you guys didn’t recognise who Zach De La Rocha was you have to react to Rage Against The Machine as an apology. It’s practically a crime to have not listened to them lmao

Fin Arthurs

second full listen / watch incoming while i climb the ladder '

purplelinks

R.A.P. Music would like a word

Dirt McGirt

Not even their best work imo!

Seth Bonones

you mentioned you try and avoid hockey comparisons. i know nothing about hockey but i rlly like the comparisons 😂

Cian Gilmour

This would be amazing. Even just going back to the first Rage album would be great discovery if neither of you are super familiar.

Dave Ko

Kevin's moment of intrigue when he heard Zach de la Rocha was awesome.

Dave Ko

She’s so stellar, gutted i’m not going to the tour

calum

she even got a shoutout from kendrick

Tyler Kloster

DITTO

Allison DeGerlia

Humbly asking that you cover doechii’s new ep will blow your socks off 🙏🏼🙏🏼

Allison DeGerlia

yes more Run the Jewels. I resubbed just so I could watch this

SAM-WISE GAMGEE

Great video! Day 2 of me asking for Doechii Alligator bites never heal hehe

calum

You should let your dad do a solo reaction to Bad Bunny’s Un Verano Sin Ti while you’re gone Connor!

yahire

if you want similar music you can listen to without connor, killer mike's 2012 album R.A.P. MUSIC was fully produced by El-P and has a feature from him. it being so good was the reason they started run the jewels the next year. i personally like it much more than michael, which won the grammy full reactions from both of you to all of rtj would be great ! 2 is far and above my favorite, but people here are saying 3 is the best for very good reason

linsii

Also Zach la Roche is from rage against the machine

Je Ows

FYI its called conscious hip hop.

Je Ows

Dont listen to Mike, his solo albums suck. Do run the Jewels first album, its the best of them all.

Je Ows

So happy you guys listened to this one! More RTJ please!!!!

misderic

You guys should listen to alligator bites never heal by doechii i can’t stop listening to it

Tyler Kloster

Rtj 3 has one of my favorite unskippable segments. Talk to me to Theives!. Song before and songs after are incredible, just found no reason to skip any. Think you guys will both love it. Thieves is one of my favorite protest vs police songs ever tbh.

Leland Michaels

I'm really hoping you guys love run the jewels 2 and 3. Two of my greatest of all time. Already sounds like Kevin is primed. In my opinion they are both rather equal and both better than this project. RTJ3 has one of my favorite rap songs ever thieves! on it.

Leland Michaels

oh yeah. you guys are going to get a great series out of this. rtj 1-3 are going to be great watches.

Anis T

I think the progression from 1 to 4 is important to listen to. On RTJ1 you can tell they were really just trying to have as much fun with making it as possible, whereas you get further down in the series it gets more personal/political. You really don't get that perspective of progression if you just start with the last one

Zach

wait do i have dementia or is this their first rtj record???? If so holy shit you are just scratching the surface. 4 is good. 2+3 are something else.

Anis T

No it still hits hard I just listened to it haha

Cody Vaught

Long Live Gangsta Boo

Cody Vaught

Kevin nooooo! You have to watch The Goonies. It’s my absolute favorite. You’d love it!

Michael Gerdes

Oh! Also Zach De La Rocha has been a RTJ Collaborator since RTJ2! Don't worry you'll see more of him.

Mae Hunter

All of RTJ, Killer Mikes, & El-Ps music is fantastic. Some of the best experimental hip hop has to offer.

Mae Hunter

josh homme featured on the record, no one knows for the sound test, 2 steps closer to finally doing queens of the stone age🙏

Jimmy Hayes

So glad to see you guys give this a listen! RTJ3 is going to be a ride!

Ben Porter

All four RTJ albums are practically made to see the first listen of - 3 is my personal favorite so I hope you get to all of them! Kevin will dig the hell out of the rest of their catalogue. MICHAEL worth a listen as well

zoudain

I’m so glad that you guys got to RTJ; El-P is criminally slept on as a producer and rapper. Mike sounds good over anything, but it’s extra special when he’s flowing over El Producto RAP music is basically RTJ 0, so if you’re in love with this, you should absolutely check it out

Ian Lewis

Yeah I don't come back to this one much for that reason, it's a little too tied up in that moment. The others are absolute heat and I'll bump 'em anytime but I gotta be in the right mood to pull this one up. It's like an album that dropped when you were with an ex who also listened to that band.

The Gr8 Scott

so happy you guys loved it, PLEASE do the other 3 on the channel!

oar

barter 6

Jamjam

This is such a great performance!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LWR4dDYeCE

TTT

Also def need to see the rest of their stuff on here. especially 2 and 3. We can skip Meow the Jewels.

The Gr8 Scott

Yeah it really would be the best place to start, not cuz there's a plot or anything but because the progression of sounds and themes and everything else is really great to see. That said, maybe without the context, RTJ 1 isn't going to hit as hard now as it did then? It's got some tracks that, now, would be skips if I was short on time.

The Gr8 Scott

Love this album! Though it reminds me of COVID

Ryan

True, El-P produced it so it was essentially the foundational project.

The Gr8 Scott

So happy for this one!! One of the best albums of 2020 and been a huge fan of theirs since high school. Still have RTJ and RTJ2 on CD. Played those countless times

Trey Buckner

Great pick but RTJ3 can not be topped. It’s not possible.

Ryley Moulder, the boulder.

Holy shit RTJ. No one does it like Mike and El. I'm surprised that folks who fuck with Danny Brown the way y'all do haven't been pumpin' this shit like they do in the future. In any case the way they just slide back and forth between them fluidly and flawlessly like tag team duo is my favorite dynamic on this group. It's not like a lot of duo projects, for example Scaring the Hoes: where we get Peggy then Danny. it's just bam bam bam, back and forth over and over dropping in so smooth and aggressive.

The Gr8 Scott

Yeah always need more Billy Woods

The Gr8 Scott

Gotta do 1-3 for the channel

Sam Armstrong

When (if) you guys go back through the other RTJ albums, don't forget Mike's R.A.P Music, which is sort of RTJ-0

Christian Bach

I’m sure the backlog is long, but some suggestions for this general direction of hip-hop I’d selfishly love to see: - more billy woods (aethiopes)/Armand Hammer, - Roc Marciano, - Griselda artists outside of the big 3, i.e. Rome Streetz/Boldy James

DrBeats

That was Zach de la Rocha, lead singer of Rage Against the Machine on the final verse of JU$T. He’s had features on RTJ2 and was uncredited on the final track of RTJ3 as well. Hope to hear you give those ones a listen too.

FCKGW

The New Sound by Geordie Greep is a MUST listen it’s so beautiful. It reminds me of ants from up there in a lot of ways.

Ryan Lanham

not starting from RTJ1 is CRIMINAL. just kidding haha but you guys really should do the rest of their albums from the start!

Zach

I saw them twice in London in 2017 and it was the best live music experience I ever had.

Paul Timmins

Finally an RTJ reaction! I knew you guys would love them! now do the first three albums! :)

Paul Timmins

Wunderhorse reaction? They have toured/ touring with Fontaines and would be really cool if you checked them out

ewan farquhar

Hang on, the way you moved past the Zack de la Rocha feature on the track Ju$t... were you aware that he's the vocalist and lyricist on Rage Against the Machine? Surely you know of the band, but if you haven't listened to their albums I think it would make for a great reaction video.

Joonas Puuppo

El-P plays his role as part of this duo perfectly, both in terms of the beats and how he complements Mike with the rhymes. To Kevin’s DOOM observation, El’s solo stuff, the farther back you go, gets much more experimental and esoteric, production- and lyrics-wise.

DrBeats

Staples recorded her parts for this track, it's not a sample. There is a good interview with El-P talking about how it came about.

fightnerd

Check out Sky's video on this album, he does a great job breaking it down.

fightnerd

Praying every day for a Rosalia album reaction

David H

Can you react to Jean Dawson's new album? It's called Glimmer of God. Also highly recommend checking out the other RTJ projects

Benchytos

Once you do RTJ3 you go watch their Tiny Desk and see their chemistry in person.

Jamie Bekins

Nooooo, do Yeat

Jakob Sundström

lets goooo

purplelinks

Starting with 4?? Please do 1-3 too 🙏🙏

Dirt McGirt

Jean Dawson's new album would be a great reaction.

Andy O'Toole

If you’re watching this you’re supporting the Patreon. Me supporting the patreon *🤭🤭*

Mickey Mouse World Champion

What a pleasant surprise. I remember the timing of "walking in the snow" blowing my mind when the album came out.

Anton Andersen

Yes finally!

Brady Dean

👊🔫

Erik

Can't wait for them to listen to RTJ3

Jarrod Castillo

Hell yeah

Jay Dee

You absolute legends 👏

Al Baker

oh my god i’ve been waiting for this one - gotta do rtj2 and 3, masterpieces

Arjun Menon

Fucking finally

Zain Ahmed

Yess
