Oddy Nuff

cry

stock photo of kid eating a carrot

The sound on this video is really quiet doesn't do the album justice

Liam Dempsey

cant wait for that very interesting bon iver album in the background!

Erlend M

It's weirdly refreshing to see Kevin not like an album. He's keeping it politely honest that it isn't connecting with him, and it goes to show how he's not being fake about everything else he's enjoyed.

Benson

Never listened to this or this artist but I’m sure I’ll see it in a different and improved way thanks to you guys!

Chris Nutman

Not a fan of this album. 😕 But I understand others may love it.

Lee_Stixx

Love Nujabes! +1 on this one

Dan P

I'm with Kevin on this one, i won't be revisiting this album

Bruh

Luv sic like a dog canine sensitivity!

Brandon Manaigo

Yall should give Nujabes a listen, i would do anything to see your reactions to Luv(sic)

Heriberto Zalazar

The vinyl for RAM has been waiting for three videos for you to react to it

Sergio Cerda

Would enjoy hearing his perspective on XXXTENTACIONS debut album 17.

Cezzurre

this albums music is more for listening to at a party or cruising in a car, just the energy keeps you up. this style of trap is like heavy metal to alt rock

Unsweetened

Y’all need to do Malibu by Anderson paak because your dad loves drums and Anderson is insane

The Stumblizer

For sure

Cody Steel

Have you ever considered making a video on logic? His album under pressure is definitely one of my favorites

Mario De la Cruz

Same bro

Buddy Lindsey

Connor has atrocity exhibition and a sufjan album (I believe it was Carrie and Lowell but I may be mistaken) so I think we’ll get some Danny and sufjan at some point

Ezra Haskard

I’ll never see the appeal of Carti. No hate if you like the music but it does absolutely nothing for me

Tyler Johnson

young thugs album jeffery would be perfect to wear dresses for :)

ahubris

i think they only put up a png if they don't have the physical vinyl / the album isn't pressed on vinyl

Jacob Martinez

Imagine getting angry over people making music you don’t like. Get over yourself. It’s just not for you it’s not a big deal

CRASH

I think he’d really enjoy The Melodic Blue by Baby Keem

tjalli

Please do Pinata by Freddie Gibbs

Mikrowellenburger

Maybe you could do the new Billie Eilish album and get all glammed up with big blond wigs and ball gowns :D

noitarunkkari

react to die lit or playboi carti album

adrians325

Björk, Wilco, Modest Mouse, Danny Brown, Phoebe Bridgers, Sufjan Stevens, Tool, Queens of the Stone Age, LCD Soundsystem, Nick Cave, Deftones, David Bowie, Talking Heads, The Flaming Lips, Postal Service, Lorde. Sun Kil Moon, Interpol, Wolf Parade, The Velvet Underground Would love reaction to any of these bands in the future :)

yellowflannel

Yeah, I agree this album is a hard first listen but his other music is easier to listen to it is somewhat repetitive but that shit bangs. Yall gotta do Die Lit Or the self-titled Playboi Carti.

Gabriel Garcia

very true is more approachable

Peter speth

I only ever enjoy this albums music when I'm not sober other than that it just doesn't jell with me I agree it feels like so much filler and weird mixes

Sam Panfil

Definitely should’ve started him out with Die Lit for a full album intro to Playboi

pj

50 listens in….. and it’s still not good

Courtland Hughes

I think a lot of carti's music is essentially storytelling. Not really meant to be relateable. It's like, VAMP Godfather. Scorsese. Sex, drugs, and rock and roll.

Neil Tucker

please do After Hours next. thanks :)

joseph 123

in response to "what albums should we dress up to" i wholeheartedly wanna see y'all do shutter shades for 808s

James Ryan

Your dad was never going to like whole lotta red, glad he’s being honest and not pretending to like it

Jack777

Once again, more Kendrick would be dope!

jofo48

Y’all gotta watch the 2021 NY Rolling Loud performance of this album. It really sums up how the album should be portrayed.

richard apollo

Was new neon cut out?

Matthew Meakin

Needs to hear selftitledd

Gamings Creed

I actually really appreciated that Kevin straight up said he couldn't roll with this - I was beginning to wonder if there was anything he wouldn't like. I concur though, but for the last track, this was not a fun listen at all. I think Mac is next - and I can't stand his voice so hoping that after that we can have something to cleanse the palate. Sufjan would be great before we head back to Kanye.

Sorry I tried but I just can’t do it. Halfway through the first song and I’m just angry music like this exists. Preciate your dad for spinning things into a positive. I’ll be here for the next one

aint nobody agree with u on dat jon

fighter quiet

Most definitely need die lit

Txkumi

They’ll get to it in February unless they revisit MBDTF (which I hope they do) then we will get it in March.

CRASH

Can’t wait for Kevin to hear Yeezus

Yeezus

i think he’d like die lit more

Terry Jackson

Sky is so popular because it blew up on tiktok

Terry Jackson

Please do DIE LIT

Buffy The Body

have him react to the miseducation of lauryn hill!!!!!!!!!!!!!

dylan g

Kanye was specific about the mix being this way throughout the album. It was to highlight cartis vocals and give you the energy for the live shows. And if you see his shows now you see why it was the right move.

Felix Alvarez

Great video Merry Christmas!

Psykopomp

Iloveihateu is not filler

Wyatt Lind

faxx i was hoping they wouldnt read the lyrics for this one

Grady Olsen

Mood

rxresodx

Dont take this the wrong way. But if it took you a while to get into, did you just force yourself to listen to it until you liked it?

MackeyMoose

I think reading the lyrics was a mistake. This album is about vibes. The best way to listen to it is with a drink and the volume as high as you can handle.

CRASH

Yeah exactly, hope it didn’t sound like that for them while listening to it

Oliver Hed

ILoveUIHateU is a good track imo

adrians325

Oh man I would LOVE to see you guys reacting to 22, A Million. Such an amazing album.

Edin Abazi

Why was New N3on Skipped 😔😭 fav song

Terry

Ah you guys skipped "New N3on"!!

Dirt McGirt

Y’all didn’t just stop talking and listen to sky at the best part 😭

Aidan Mulhall

saying ILoveUIHateU is a filler track is crazyyyy

Avery Leland

Damn this reaction came out just in time I have a 3 hour layover this morning and nothing to do lmao

disdainjames

They’re doing 1 Kanye album per month :(

Aiden Cleary

Sounds like an artist fresh out of good ideas to me.

Jon Scanlon

:)

Максим

Good kid maad city would be cool

Khaled

i feel like youre trying to hard to explain it. carti for me is literally just music you chuck on and vibe to. Once you take it less seriously it grows on you cause you start to appreciate it for what it is

Joseph Robson

Still waiting for 808s and heartbreak

Ersin Günay

Tha Carter IV react would be sick.

zoge

we need die lit, then self-titled! loved this video

flxtchrr

Hey, new patron here. This was a wonderful reaction, aside from new neon not making it in. I found it very interesting to hear kevin say that its basically 8 good tracks with filler, as a carti fan whose been to his show before; I've never been one to love a carti project in its entirety. That being said its interesting that this project has the least amount of songs i like, at literally 8. Unfortunately me and kevin dont agree on all the songs that we like but he likes new neon so thats cool with me. Anyways, i think the background knowledge of carti having many leaks leading up to this project and no samples cleared he actually did seem to rush the project especially with the kanye production and in his feature he say's "promise playboi project be out fo' the weekend is over" so i think that really helps understand what many of the decisions that were made on this. Hope you see this and i also didnt like and still dont like most of the project after many listens, only 8/24 saved :) thanks for reading if you do. Edit: also die lit is his best project. On the same note his leaks would have been a much better project than what we got, WLR should have been an EP

rxresodx

Die lit next bro. loved this video man literally made my christmas. much love

Kumaaaa

WHEN are yall gonna do Bon Iver behind yall 😭😭😭😭😭

Juan Arvizu

Y'all seriously need to do Die Lit. I feel like it takes the elements that your father enjoys from this album with more melodic beats/conventional mixing. It's still very repetitive lol but that's carti's style. Annoying at first, infectious later.

Joseph Kiley

For future Carti albums don’t make him read lyrics just let him take it in on first listen

JOEY 80

Kevin might find carti's debut album more enjoyable, glad he ended on a good note with F33l Lik3 Dyin

cloogoos

executive produced by kanye

bL

i feel like if your dad listened to the live version he would be obsessed with the album

adrik laboone

The other percussion in sky is a rimshot

Ezra Haskard

New N3on was the first track I liked on this album 😭😭😭

cloogoos

mid album lol yall carti fans forcing on ppl

lé fan ye

And i Definitely, DEFINITLEY show him the live electric guitar intros and songs of his tour that just ended. also recommended yall to watch this Whole Lotta Red concert/album analysis from a french professor/music nerd. I see a lot of him in your dad and its a really good watch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTdqnI8df04&t=1690s

Tevin Keo

i havent finished the video but i think you should definitely show him everything that came with this era. His outfits, tweets, fan behavior, and most importantly his live shows. It will definitely put him in a different headspace knowing cartis intent with WLR. As fascinating as WLR is, I believe his tour had a lot to do with the newfound love of the album. It really made people realize the whole vision he had with this whole vamp punk era. The intros, transitions, and avant-garde vibe really made me spark a liking that I never with it before. Overall I think it’s important to pay attention to WLR, but I think it’s importance comes with its energy.

Tevin Keo

It also took me a very long to get into, but now it's one of my favorites of all time. What helped me the most is thinking of carti's voice as more of an instrument and not as much emphasis on lyrics

Nathan Mack

SKIPPED NEW NEON NOOOO 😭😭😭

Nbeutler11

it was

Shiloh Cotto

This is really Kevin’s first exposure to a more gritty style of trap. Definitely an intense departure from what he’s been exposed to so far.

MadeByMali

KEV, READ THIS; First, no one really finds whole lotta red relatable. Sure, some stuff about coming from the hood and stuff might be MORE relatable to people who went through that, but realistically very very few people who listen to carti are driving foreign sports cars, fucking groupies, and doing tons of drugs. Whole lotta red is akin to classical or instrumental music, in that you don’t listen for lyrics, but for the sonic aspect of things. This applies to a lot of melodic/ mumble rap, where the voice is more of an instrument than a means of story telling. Carti is very far on the spectrum of melodic rap, but it’s a lot like Cudi, where singing/melodic inflection is a big part of the auditory experience. Secondly, you aren’t alone in not liking whole lotta red first listen. The general consensus among carti fans and the wider hip-hop community was that carti fell off, as it was so different than stuff he’d done in the past, and simply other music in general. WITH THAT BEING SAID: People, myself included, genuinely like the album. It isn’t just a joke album to see your reaction, it’s a genuinely well respected album, to the point many were outraged it didn’t get a Grammy nom this year. For everyone, it went from being a trash album that totally disappointed to a total turnaround of cartis style and career, leaving people itching for more of cartis new sound. Finally, given your freshness to hip hop as opposed to many other WLR listeners’ well versed-ness, it may take a very long time to get into whole lotta red, and relistening to bits of it into yourself until you like it may not work as it did for others. Once Connor shows you albums like astroworld, DS2, LUV is rage 2, and other well known and respected melodic rap albums, give it a few tries then. TLDR/Summary; Whole lotta red is a difficult album to enjoy for everyone, as it was initially disliked across the board. With time however, people grew to love its energy and style (its lyrics are fairly meaningless and unrelatable for everyone, think of it as instrumental music and cartis voice as rhythm or percussion), and it eventually became a largely beloved album for millions. Have patience, as we did, and soon you’ll wish you were hearing more music with its energy.

Ezra Haskard

for some reason the audio/music sounds muddy, compared not only to the album on my computer but the past videos. idk if it's a spotify thing or rendering on the video but i thought i should point that out

naz

Sky is popular because of TikTok. I remember Carti performing it on some late night show

Scall123

bruh it skipped from vamp anthem to control

Shiloh Cotto

This album was really meant for live shows. Watch some of the live shows! It's got sick transitions and live guitars.

Scall123

Just me or was New Neon cut?

Scall123

i thought my entire time watching the image was the vinyl version but its just a png wow

Oliver Graham

Been waiting on this all week

playboi farti

Awesome vid, could we get timestamps for videos? I would really appreciate it and think others would too

Rasha Rahman

I agree. I saw another reactionary dad do WLR first and then felt really bored by Die Lit but I think the order matters if you wanna enjoy both

Rasha Rahman

Shoulda done die lit first, still really excited
