Hey Steve. Thank you so much for the support. I totally agree. I have always been solid into lyrics and how they mesh with the overall feel of the song but through this process I have come to realize ( in the middle of the Rodeo album) that I don't always need to scrutinize the lyrics to enjoy the track. I knew a-lot of people growing up that said to me that they never even listen to lyrics in songs and that blew my mind because as a songwriter I felt the two were inseparable. I have been really learning a ton doing these videos with Connor. The bonus is I get to hear great music and hang with Connor. Thx again

Different albums have different qualities that make them enjoyable and Rodeo definitely takes you on a ride sonically where having lyrics on paper isn't neccesary at all, and might even distract from the music itself. To clarify the mixtape thing, a mixtape allows an artist to create without worrying about clearing samples. So they could remix songs, etc. Usually bc they are not profiting from it. Artists like lil wayne and 50 cent benefitted from this because they could put out music at an unmatched pace without having to worry about any interference from their labels because they put it out for free

This was a blind spot (I have many in the genre) but I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's great being introduced to new music along with Kevin. You asked for some suggestions, so here are some off the top of my head. Sigur Ros (perfect for winter, 2nd, 3rd or 4th albums would be great - not sure if your dad is familiar with post rock). The Knife/Fever Ray (also great for winter, very unique sounds - dancey but sinister) Portishead (you need more female singers and she is one of the best - plus Kevin can make some "getting head" jokes) Joana Newsom - YS (we haven't seen Kevin hate something, this could be the one. It's so heavy into its aesthetic that if you don't like 1 min you probably won't like the entire thing, but I think it's masterful and her lyrics are genuinely strong enough to be published as poetry without any music supporting) Fiona Apple (Kevin will LOVE her, if he doesn't already) FKA Twigs (such an artist) Bjork (the original, Icelandic FKA Twigs) The Mars Volta - Deloused or Frances (will knock Kevin on his ass, guaranteed) A good one off would be Battles - Atlas music video - math rock from the future. And would be great to see Kevin watch Radiohead from the basement - he'll appreciate them even more after that. Keep up the good work. Quit that damn job already, Connor. We need you more than they do ;-)

I think J. Dilla - Donuts would be an amazing album for y'all to check out together. J Dilla is one of Kanye West's biggest inspirations as a producer. To this day you can hear his influence in West's production. Donuts was produced on Dilla's deathbed. It's an instrumental hip-hop album that plays in a loop. You can begin and end the album anywhere in the tracklist. It's super cool as well because Dilla doesn't quantize any of the drums. Great vid!
