Two weeks have passed since your first fateful meeting with the queen of the winter realm. While still largely unsettled by the cold stillness of your betrothed’s palace, so unlike the warmth and light of your summer home, you have settled into a wary routine of sorts. In between meals, you explore the castle and its grounds, accompanied by your stoic personal guard. You of course are forbidden to explore the eastern wing, which you are quite curious about - but for the time being, you put it out of your mind. At least until you can figure out how to ditch the guard. 

When possible, you try to make conversation with the staff, but everyone responds shiftily, seeming altogether unkeen to gossip. You suppose you can’t blame them. You’ve only been able to get one interesting piece of information out of a maid, a nervous comment of, “You shouldn’t ask too many questions, you’ll end up like the other one.” A puzzling, somewhat concerning, remark, one that sparks a multitude theories within your head. Otherwise, your attempts to find out more about the war between winter and spring have not yielded many results.

So far, the queen has made good on her promise to call on you once a week. Both times this happened, she simply has had you play the pianoforte for her for an hour. She sits silently while you plunk out popular tunes from the summer court, her expressionless face angled away from you and her fingertips pressed together. When the hour is up, she politely but quickly takes her leave, not meeting your gaze, and returns to whatever business takes up all her time. 

She has made very little attempt to speak to you since what happened in her quarters, even though she had said she would. She is often absent from meals as well, always skipping breakfast and rarely showing up to dinner. Although her manner is cold, you can’t forget the fervent expression on her face when she held you before, the edge of desperation that had crept into her voice as her cool fingers pressed against you. You’ve tried and failed to not think about what happened between the two of you. Everyone in your homeland said she was cruel and merciless, but that day… she had seemed to you a drowning woman, clutching at a buoy - which, for some reason, had been you. Your deep sense of empathy had drawn you to this sad, beautiful woman, and you had willingly taken part in the almost feverish intimacy that had transpired. It is altogether strange… you feel you understand her more, and yet simultaneously understand her less. She remains a conundrum. But there are two things you are positive of: one, she is not cruel, not the way people think. And two, she is avoiding you now as much as possible. Although, you notice, snow-white blossoms are left consistently at your bedside table every other day, and you wonder if they are from her.

With many thoughts knocking around in your brain, you decide one evening to take solace in the library. Thankfully, your guard stands outside the door, so you are mercifully alone as you pore through the books by the light of the fireplace, attempting to deduce if perhaps there is some historical significance to why this war has abruptly begun to take place. You are soon joined by an unexpected, remorseful visitor.

Hello, my darlings ♥️ after over a full year, we finally have Snow Queen part 2 - yayyy!!! This took so long to record for a variety of reasons… scheduling, sheer script length, my perfectionism, and a really bad cough that has prevented me from staying too long in my booth 😓 But I’m finally happy with the finished product, and so excited for everyone to hear the continuation!
