Another Update Blog - December Rant

Hi everyone! Since my latest What's Next Update Blog, pixiv has released another announcement in regards to their updates to the rules on fanbox. You can read about it here: https://www.fanbox.cc/@official-en/posts/4840574

In this announcement they state that their new rules are mainly going to prevent people from sharing illegal images and videos of real children. I think no one has a problem with this change. These kind of images involving real children shouldn't be on any site, and anyone sharing them should be reported to the authorities. If there has been people sharing such images on their fanbox sites, then I really hope they get rid of it.

But in their previous announcement, they would bunch these images of real children together with everything fictional that they deemed to be against the rules. They made no difference between these clearly illegal images, versus the fictional shota, loli, bestiality, incest and sexual abuse fan art, even when they are unrealistic and clearly fictional. Now they have at least separated it, but it's still very unclear what their rules actually mean.

The shota, loli, bestiality, incest and sexual abuse fan art or original art, even if it's clearly drawn and unrealistic, is still going to be regulated. Those images now fall under something they call "under revision". They will have a self proclaimed council of conduct to go through that kind of art, and decide which ones break the rules and which ones don't. In my experience, this often means that anything the people of this so called council of conduct doesn't like, be it because it's not their favorite characters, they are not a fan of the pairing, they are disgusted by what is drawn, and so on, will decide what will get to stay up. This is always what ends up happening when the rules aren't clear, and everything is left up for moderators and so on to decide what is against the rules or not.

Here is an example of what I mean. As you all know I am also a fan fiction writer. Back when I wrote the sinful story as five or six different stories, I used to first upload those stories on a site called fanfiction.net. That site has rules against any underage characters being involved in any sexual relationships, even in fictional stories. Even though that is a clear rule on their site, there are thousands of fan fiction stories featuring a young Naruto being together with female characters in a sexual manner. Many of those stories are pure smut. Those stories never gets removed and the readers on the site are mostly fans of them.

Then when I uploaded my stories, which all had the same disclaimer of everyone having their age raised to 18+ mind you, one of my stories kept getting mass reported and removed. That was the story with Konohamaru and Kushina "Sarutobi and Uzumaki". Both the readers on that site and the moderators, are mainly into stories where Naruto is a demi-god who gets every girl. Now I can't blame them for that, as I kinda also write him that way. The difference is that I can accept that other characters can also have a romantic relationship. One thing that many of these readers and moderators hates to see, is when Kushina is paired up with anyone that isn't Naruto or Minato. Yes, it's fine when Naruto and Kushina are paired up, even if it's incest, but anything else is crossing the line. Now, I'm not hating on people who thinks that way. I used to share that opinion and I still somewhat do. The difference now is that I also like to see her together with Konohamaru, but I still hate to see her with most other characters. There are some characters I can't stand to see her paired up with, but I will spare you which ones in case you are fan of it.

But to get back to the point. My story was reported for all kinds of things, as they went looking for anything that could break any rules. First it was because I had shared a link to a song available for youtube. Then it was because I had written too detailed smut scenes (you as readers of my stories knows I struggle to write smut scenes and know that they are not very detailed and lengthy at all). I ended up re uploading the story twice, removing any smut scene and links to any songs on youtube. It still got removed, the last time without giving me any reason for the removal. This is because the moderator who removed it, simply wasn't a fan of the pairing. The story did not break any rules, since I clearly stated that Konohamaru was 18 years or older.

It's this kind of regulation that I am afraid that fanbox moderators are going to adopt. I'm not saying that this is going to be the case 100%, but I have seen it before and it usually ends up this way when the rules aren't crystal clear, and it's left up to individual moderators to decide the rules.

But with that said, I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt. Let's see what happens first, before I call it doomsday.

A day or two before December 14th (which is when the new rules are going to be applied), I'm going to make the three old art blogs private, along with the two "Photobooth date" blogs. I will make them visible again sometime around Christmas time. I feel it's safer that way, since these moderators might go full gestapo the first week, looking for all the "dangerous" fictional Konohamaru art on my fanbox.

Now to some more positive news. Yesterday I almost finished a new chapter of the Sinful story. I reckon that chapter is going to be posted later tonight. That will be the fifth chapter that is uploaded to fanbox, before being shared with everyone else. Due to that, and since it's been over a month since I updated the story on the other sites (they are on chapter 9), I am going to go ahead and share chapter 10 early for them. Chapter 11 will be shared a month after, as planned though.

Chapter 14 will likely be posted here on fanbox tonight. I think Chapter 15 is likely going to follow pretty soon after that as well. It's starting to get really fun to write this story again now that I have gotten to the point where everyone starts getting together and going on dates and such.

In chapter 14, Naruto and Kurenai will continue to hook up, but I will let that happen mostly in the background, while I focus on the other characters. As you might recall, the main reason why I decided to combine all these stories into this mega story, was to allow me to focus on the pairings and characters that I wanted to write about and had ideas for. Some pairings are going to get less scenes in some chapters from now on. But they will come back in a later chapters and get more focus on them again. That's especially the case with Naruto, as he will always have something of a main focus in this story.

The last thing I want to talk about is my fan art and the comic "Minato's Wedding Surprise". I am going to backpedal once again when it comes to Minato's Wedding Surprise, as I'm taking a break from that story until these new rules are implemented on fanbox. These new rules, along with my slow updates on this comic, has started to stress me out a bit. It's not fun to spend months on drawing a picture, only for it to be removed in less than a week later, because Konohamaru is in the picture. I am not abandoning this comic though, and I still believe that you will get to see some updates for this comic before December is over.

As for my fan art. As soon as I have chapter 14 of the Sinful story out here on fanbox, I'm going to get to drawing. I will either draw something completely new, or I will put together some extra versions, using fan art from last month. I might do both as well. In other words, more fan art updates are coming soon as well!

That's the end of my update blog and rant. I have been thinking about writing a little rant blog about my thoughts on the Naruto series as a whole, and why I think it could have been much better than it was. Is that something you would like to read?
