ive said this to people before but the only reason i heavily dislike this is because it was supposed to be their story. but really it’s just a reimagining and moreso “inspired” but not actually a factually based adaptation. this show would actually be good if you didnt know it was supposed to be the lyle and erik menendez story imo

2024-11-25 22:40:30 +0000 UTCHere I come again with a long ass comment 😭 To answer some of your questions, yeah, Judalon Smyth was pretty accurately presented here, I watched the trial and oh boy was she inconsistent in her story 😭 And again, the Norma tapes book didn’t have affect on the second trial, they totally dramatized it here. Jill also did not leave because of the book, Lyle couldn’t afford her services that’s it. She even visited Lyle in jail with her daughter later. It is true that Leslie at first wanted Erik to go “against” Lyle but he quickly shut that idea down, and Erik did not blow up on Leslie like that, that’s totally out of character and fictional, he viewed Leslie as a mother figure he never had. The whole “blame game” the brothers have going on in this episode is so infuriating since they’ve said numerous times that they would do anything for each other, moreover in every interview they had, they blame themselves. Lyle ever since their incarceration feels like he couldn’t save his brother, and Erik expressed that “he caused everything” by telling Oziel. They’ve never blamed each other. This episode also failed to explain that the second trial was unfair, the judge didn’t accept evidence of abuse, limited the number of witnesses and discussions of SA. Thats one of the main reasons people are still advocating for their release, they didn’t have a fair trial. The juries only had two choices either life in prison or the death penalty. That’s not justice. Also imagine the strain on their mental health, having to be vulnerable and relive all of the trauma for hours AGAIN, on the second trial? Insanity. The law and order version of this story is so much better istg.
