Also I think the reason the coven is so lost is because Gram's is not there anymore to guide them. They probably have minor power but the super witch was Penny. In that sense, they loose themselves too greed and wants to stay alive forever. Penny was the only link that avoid them to go that path.

2023-08-11 14:51:57 +0000 UTCOne of the key themes of this episode that I think everyone missed is 'fear of death'. Aunt Gail was not just vain for vanity's sake, she was ill and not ready to die. Fear of death and what happens to you after you die is a genuine phobia and I don't think that was appreciated here. Aunt Gail is so afraid of death that she is willing to sacrifice her soul for youth. It is not made clear what that actually means, but it is a big repercussion for a chance to start over. It does not even begin to excuse what she did but it puts a heavier perspective on the episode and makes it more interesting following on nicely from the last episode which focused on suicide. Great podcast as always x

Not excusing her behavior, but she was very desperate, and I don’t think she herself was evil which is why they don’t portray her as evil. She was dying, and she was scared, she knows about supernatural options and made the wrong decision. I also don’t care for this episode, but that’s my take.

2023-08-04 14:31:51 +0000 UTCWell Dr Fuller, what is strange for me is that Grans would talk about the girls, powers & book of shadows to someone who isn't even her flesh and blood... "Aunt" Gail was an adopted aunt, not Gran's real sista. And we know our thing about sista with this show. I loved the idea of the human quilt, made me think at the time at a book we were studying at school "La peau de chagrin", don't ask me why, it sticked with me (that is a Balzac book and I usually hate them). But the prop was not correct, too much like leather, not enough fleshy for me. So many little things, adding for maybe a 6 for me, not enough coordinated between the prop, the storylines, and why would Piper let Dane kiss her so long after she TOLD Leo he was her One ? (yeah I know I'm a Minion of the French contingent so I m maybe a bit biased on this). I love it when U find us Easter eggs such as the stunt coord being on the show. That is so cool. That is one part of why I love the podcast. It makes me feel like I was with you all in the show, likely an unknown PA, showing up with coffees and treats, but living the real thing. <3 wuv U guys, will see U at P3 in Paris (HMC pleeasssse, I'll bribe U with wine and homemade pastries, come, I'll get enough for the boys too)

And for the book thing, I always assumed it was bc the book grew in power alongside the girls so it wasn't 'powerful' enough yet to protect itself. That's just a theory tho lol

And the episode with the sword BK is talking about is from early s4 :) I love HTMAQOOA. Something about it being personal with their aunt, plus the location shoots, I always loved this episode. also Drew being buddies with Greg is so awesome 😂

The first few seasons were great for Piper and Leo but then, Leo makes Piper go to hell and back with his choices. So HMC, if France won’t let you in, you can go a little bit to the south east. Malta will gladly take you in. Secondly. I give the ep a 7, mostly because the B storyline. The A storyline line was harsh. Aunt Gayle was willing to sacrifice the strongest witches’ powers… She didn’t think things through. She didn’t see the good they already did and are going to so that no other witches would be able to. Thirdly, I am going to try to join the Watch Party but it’s at midnight for me so it’s gonna be hard, but for you guys, I’m gonna try. Love you, guys 😘

It probably was going to be a little more drawn out over a few episodes. Also, Anne Haney (Gail) was in Liar Liar - she was the Secretary and the Social Worker in Mrs. Doubtfire. Oh and Driving Miss Daisy. Sadly, she passed away in mid-2001.

I think Piper’s struggle for normalcy is more about longing for a life she had but suddenly lost in her early 20’s when Grams died. Also, she is the most like Patty and was always the heart-center of the family - in all its non-traditional-ness - her whole life. She’s tough but wears her heart on her sleeve and in doing so, has always longed for a romanticized version of “normal”…a normal life and a normal family.

I do really like the way we see Piper struggle with wanting a normal life and not really being bothered about getting her powers back. #poordan - given the cheek twice and then he basically knows what’s happening without her needing to say the words at the end. He’s kind of perfect, he’s just not Leo! I’d love to hear from a writer’s perspective like BK was mentioning. That’s be really interesting! The mug(s?) and hat look cool! I love watching you all interact and the way Holly teases Drew - about both pickleball and the lying face 😂

It is like being born into an organised religion. I was born into a Mormon family and it wasn’t my choice and when I grew up and chose not to be part of it. My mum though, she chose that for herself so she was very calm and content in that life choice whereas I rebelled against it all my life because I didn’t feel like I was given a choice so I completely understand how Piper feels wanting to have a normal life because it’s also how I felt growing up.

I think it is a bit too creepy for me, though I do love the girls and their personal storylines. Watching Anne Haney was cool...seeing how she passed not long after this. I don't quite understand folk querying why Grams had a coven. We see her with other witches in another later ep and pretty much in a coven there. Plus all witches have covens and Grams is a leader.

Piper wanting to give up being a witch added to the drama of the episode, and then to end it with the emotional breakup with Dan... A great episode I give a rating of 8 to. Blessings to all. A selfish relative willing to go to any means necessary including abuse of a corpse and betraying trust with her own family just so she and her friends could live and be young. Vanity is truly a curse. Then, the heartbreak for Dan and Piper's characters when the truth becomes too apparent to ignore that Piper made her choice before he presented the earrings - but he seemed to kind of know when he called on the phone while away. Everyone played their parts brilliantly but as the panel suggests it's rather unfocused in script and editing - a hodge-podge stew. I think it could have been much better.

And I don't think she would have a coven, after being betrayed by her friend in the 70s episode I don't think she would let someone be that close to her magical life or the girls. 2. Why didn't the book protect itself from Gail ripping a page out? 3. How did 3 old ladies dig up numerous bodies 😂 Overall I enjoyed this episode because we get to see the beginning of the Piper desperately wanting a normal life and beginning with Leo. I enjoyed Dan but Leo will always be for Piper ❤️ Drew 😂 you just getting it was made out of corpses killed me.
