A few points: I don't think it is ever explicitly stated, but Archer was there at the end to save the day because he did not actually die to Gilgamesh's swords, but somehow managed to shift into spirit form at the last second. He then somehow managed to survive thanks to his Independent Action skill until the final battle at Ryuudo temple. Also, there is another (short, like 8 minutes long) OVA called "Sunny Day". It shows an alternative ending to UBW from the Visual Novel, called the "Good Ending". I would like to see you react to that as well. As I said, it is only like 8 minutes long, so not a huge time investment. Oh yeah, and after that it's time for the Heaven's Feel movies! Looking forward to that!

2022-07-29 20:53:34 +0000 UTCDnno if u noticed my comment on previous post since it was late so I'll copy paste I hope you guys will react to Kara no Kyoukai (Garden of Sinners) movies after finishing Heaven's Feel movies. It belong in the same universe as Fate series. It consists of 7 movies depicted in a anachronical order which makes it more interesting. Also it's pretty dialogue heavy if that may affect your decision on watching it or not

What Archer said was basically that, even if the end he arrived at was not what he wished for, what he fought for in life was not a mistake. Closing his character arc. Remember that he will keep repeating what he hates the most for all eternity, though he at least has his own answer. The scene with Shirou is the desert was, sadly, not well portrayed in the anime. Basically, and as per the script of the episode, we see Shirou walking along a trail of footsteps (Archer´s) in the desert, then the trail suddenly stops, signaling the place where Archer stopped in life. Then, Shirou looks up, smiles, and keeps walking. Thats how the original scene in the script went. A metaphor, signaling that even though Shirou followed a similar path than Archer, he was able to avoid that grim end, and kept walking forward to a better future. So, he avoided turning up like Archer and becoming a guardian. Probably married Rin along the way considering they already had a physical relationship. Neither the 2006 Shirou nor the UBW 2014 Shirou end up like Archer. Interesting detail: Although the 2006 Shirou followed a very very similar path than Archer, he found his own happy end thanks to the experiences he had with Saber. Though this is only known in the Visual Novel in a special ending called "Last Episode" Now, how will the Shirou in the Heavens Feel movies turn out?
