07-1 Tyche Reborn

While temporarily suspended from practicing medicine, and despite her ongoing legal troubles, Tyche enrolled in several classes in criminal and metahuman law. During one of those classes, she was approached by her instructor, Captain James Jefferson, with an offer: if she would commit to being on call for the MRT, she could resume her vigilante activity, provided she called in the police and didn't leave the scene until actual cops arrived to arrest anyone she apprehended. Jefferson also admitted that the DHPD and, especially, Zed, the head of the MRT, and Jefferson himself, were specifically working to have her exonerated on all charges due to her involvement in rescuing Anne Friedman during her recent adventure in Faerie.

With that tacit permission, Tyche has returned to her crime-stopping activities on the streets of Dream Haven. It seems that she's working well with the police, and there are also rumors she may have uncovered further help while she was in Faerie. Whatever the story, Tyche's return to the streets has had a marked effect on the criminal population of the city.

The haft of Tyche's staff is a titanium base- strong and lightweight. The studs that activate the arms of the staff are coded to Tyche's DNA and very difficult to fool; there are also individual rheostats for each arm, allowing her to control the length of each arm anywhere from off to 100 percent. As shown here, she often uses the staff with only a single blade or with the blades turned off completely.

Tyche still has incredible senses, even when she isn't actively using them. Unfortunately for her, she's lost the level-damping that the aliens implanted in her to prevent her from suffering from overload; as a result, sudden, extreme assaults on her senses can leave her temporarily incapacitated. Fortunately, her fast healing means that she recovers from these assaults much more quickly than might be expected, but she still finds the experience painful and disorienting.

Nobody, Tyche included, knows the extent of her fast healing ability; it is enough that minor wounds heal almost as quickly as they are inflicted, and even serious injuries heal in minutes or hours. Healing quickly does require energy, and enough injuries, even minor ones, can debilitate her, slow her healing, and even potentially kill her. It's also unknown whether or not her body can heal from instantly lethal injuries, such as those to the spine, brain, or heart, but it seems somewhat unlikely.

Tyche has a scar under her left eye that she acquired during her captivity with the faerie slave-master Ranga; the fact that the scar has persisted even after all of her other wounds have healed suggests that it was caused by magic and repeated trauma, but Tyche has not yet revealed how she acquired them.
