Angel is descended from something divine- an angel or an archangel, cherubim or seraphim- and her powers focus on healing, although she is known to have a temper and struggles with her urge to avenge wrongdoing. Kat, her adopted twin sister, is witchborn. Nobody knows exactly what being witchborn means in Dream Haven, but it has granted Kat influence over karma and the ability to wield magical power. It has also left her with a strong sense of justice that is not always tied to mercy, although it's likely to be held in check by her rough affection for her sister. Flayre, finally, is the twins' older, unknown, guardian dragonkin. In order to rescue the younger girls, Flayre burned the research facility they'd all been created in to ash, along with every human associated with it. Flayre has very little sense of right or wrong, but she is possessed of loyalty and a truly epic level of possessiveness. When she claims something, she protects it with all her heart, soul, magic, and fire, and she doesn't care about collateral damage. When Angel and Kat fled to the U.S., Flayre followed them and became beholden to the local organized crime ring that protected her. She works for them and uses their resources to keep her safe so she can guard and protect her sisters.
