Gift of Hedone: Character/Maiden Caps

With your characters the idea is you progressively unlock a "stronger" version of yourself and your teammates (think Pokemon Evolution, how your stats get better - but there wouldn't be graphic appearance differences (I may explore graphical differences, but its not the priority yet)
But what I did want to get your opinion on from a stat and progression perspective for your characters what would you prefer of the below:
Option 1: There is no level cap, characters can continue to level up, but their stats will not be as good as a "stronger unlocked version"
Option 2: Characters have a level cap based on the stage (common, rare, epic - these are not the names just examples) and cannot level up until you "upgrade them"
Option 3: Story Level caps, so with this one, you would be capped based on the progression of the story, and only be able to progress to higher levels once certain stages in the story are met
and I would ensure i write a reason into the lore and story for any of the caps

For example, you reached the max level requiered to upgrade the character, but the items/materials needed for that upgrade can only be obtained after a certain point in the story or in a location which is hard to reach/survive in, without completing a certain milestone. This way you can give more freedom to the playstyle; someone wants to grind away and play the story with maxed out characters? Why not? Its possible but hard to achieve.

2025-08-01 02:03:44 +0000 UTCI like the story locked cap, makes sure the character can't get OP too early, kinda progresses like DND. You'll be the right level for the right place and time.
