Chapter 54 – Provisional License Exam (Part 1)
A bus drove into the parking lot of a large arena before coming to a stop.
“We’re here. Everyone out.” Aizawa said as the bus doors opened and he stepped out of the vehicle. “Our test site is the National Takoba Arena.”
The day of the Provisional License Exam had finally arrived.
“Getting nervous now.” Kyoka said as she looked up at the arena. It was a bit of an opposing feeling knowing that the next part of their path to being Pro Heroes was a pass or fail here.
“Takoba, huh?” Izuku looked at the arena and then over to where other buses with students had arrived a distance away.
Chikuchi, the newest student in the Hero Course and therefore the one with the least training overall, was fretting a bit. “We still have no clue what this exam will even entail. Can we really earn our licenses?”
Aizawa spoke up. “Togeike, it’s not a matter of ‘can’. You will.”
“Y-Yes, sensei. I’ll do my best.” Chikuchi said, knowing this was Aizawa’s way of encouraging them.
“Earn your provisional licenses by passing this test, and you won’t be mere eggs anymore, but full-fledged hatchlings reborn as Semi-pros!” Aizawa told his class as a whole. “Show them your best.”
“Yeah! We’re gonna hatch from those eggs!” Kaminari cheered, trying to build up the morale of his friends.
Kirishima, quickly getting in on it, pumped his fist into the air. “Time for our cheer!” He smiled at everyone, not noticing that his loud exclamation had attracted someone else. “All together now! Plus…”
“ULTRA!!!” All of Class 1-A cheered loudly…along with a single other student NOT from U.A. at all.
“Who?” Mina tilted her head curiously at the new guy that had shown up out of nowhere.
The new person was tall at roughly 190cm in height, was very well-built with a strong physique, had his dark hair in a buzzcut, and his dark eyes were filled with excitement after the cheer. He wore a white button-up shirt tucked into dark, navy blue pants and a wore a familiar hat atop his head that had a gold-colored badge on the front of it in the shape of a stylized ‘S’.
“It’s bad manners to intrude upon another group’s huddle, Inasa.” Another teen, wearing the same uniform and hat, said from behind the larger teen.
“Ah, you got me!” Inasa, apparently, said loudly before slamming his arms to his sides. “I am so…” He bent forward in a bow. “…very…” His head slammed into the ground and made more than half of Class 1-A recoil at the ‘thud’ the impact made. “…sorry!”
“Who’s this whacked out ball of excitement?” Kaminari pointed at the stranger with a confused expression.
Sero nodded in agreement with Kaminari. “He’s like Iida plus Kirishima, squared!”
Aizawa noticed the large teen and recognized him. ‘That boy…’
Other students from different Hero schools had clearly noticed the two groups.
“Look, those uniforms.”
“Oh! You’re right!”
“It’s them! From the west! That famous school!”
“U.A.’s in the east and Shiketsu is in the west.” Bakugo mentioned as he looked over the group of students from the other famous school in Japan. “Theirs is one of the few elite hero courses that can rival U.A.’s…Shiketsu High.”
Inasa shot upright, his forehead starting to bleed from its rough impact with the ground. “I just always wanted to try saying it! Plus Ultra!” He declared loudly with a wide smile. “I freakin’ love U.A. High!” Inasa declared loudly. “It is truly an honor to compete alongside the fine students of U.A.!”
“Inasa…you’re bleeding.” The large Shiketsu student covered in thick fur said as blood began to flow down Inasa’s face.
“Let’s go.” The other Shiketsu student said, his sharp eyes looking between Inasa and the U.A. students for a moment before turning away and beginning to walk towards the entrance to the arena.
“Yoarashi Inasa…” Aizawa said as he watched the Shiketsu students began to walk away.
“Do you know him, Aizawa-sensei?” Hagakure asked her clothing moving as she looked between Aizawa and the tall Inasa.
Kirishima looked at Inasa’s back. “He’s really, really enthusiastic.”
Sato nodded in agreement with Kirishima, “Yeah, but from what he’s saying, he actually seems like a nice guy.”
“He’s…very strong.” Aizawa began, thinking it bad luck for his students that Inasa had ended up at this testing site. “Yoarashi… This year, he got placed into your grade at U.A. under special recommendation. His top grades were enough to open the doors for him, but…for some reason, he decided not to accept.”
“Huh?! So he’s…a first year?” Camie blinked at that, remembering that Aizawa himself had said that it was rare for first year’s to be part of the Provisional License Exams. “With special recommendation and top grades…?” She looked at Momo with a curious raised eyebrow.
Momo hummed thoughtfully. “Did I see him at the recommendation exams?” There had been quite a few students there and she’d been doing her absolute best to focus, so she didn’t recall all of the faces and names from that day.
“He says he’s a big fan of U.A. but he turned down his acceptance?” Ochako couldn’t quite wrap her head around that. “I don’t get it.”
“It’s…weird.” Mina said, looking at the retreating backs of the Shiketsu students.
“Weird or not, he’s the real deal. Keep your eyes on him.” Aizawa cautioned his students.
“Eraser? Is that really you, Eraser?!” A woman’s voice called out.
Aizawa visibly flinched before slowly turning to face the woman.
The woman was of a strong athletic build with noticeably muscular arms. She had seafoam-green hair that reached just past her shoulders, and a short fringe with splayed ends which was currently obscured by her orange bandanna. She had dark green eyes with bright pupils, but her most prominent feature was her unwavering joyous smile. Her hero costume consisted of a sleeveless navy blue shirt with a high collar that was buttoned up all the way to her chin, puffed shorts with a green and orange pinstripe design and a corset adorned with yellow smiley-face pins, dipping down in a shallow ‘U’ in the center. Below this, she wore a white V-shaped belt, and on her hands she had padded yellow gloves with golden plates over her knuckles and lower fingers, which extend in orange-striped sleeves down her forearms, with thick metal cylinders acting as wrist-guards over the top.
“I saw you on TV and at the Sports Festival.” The woman waved to Aizawa with a bright and friendly smile. “It’s been too long since we last met face-to-face!”
Aizawa looked flatly at the bright and energetic woman.
Izuku recognized the Pro Hero woman easily. “That woman…”
“Let’s get married!” The woman pointed at herself and Aizawa with a bright smile.
Aizawa’s expression couldn’t get any flatter. “No thanks.”
“AHHH!!!” Mina squealed happily at the potential romance.
The woman burst into laughter at Aizawa’s instant refusal. “No thanks? Just do it!”
“You’re the same pain in the neck as always, Joke.” Aizawa said to the woman with a sigh.
“The Smile Hero, Miss Joke!” Izuku smiled at getting to meet a new Pro Hero. “Her Quirk is Outburst! She can force those around her to start laughing, effectively slowing their movements and thoughts! The methods she uses to take down Villains are insane!”
Miss Joke beamed at Izuku before turning back to Aizawa. “I have a fan among your students, Eraser!” She laughed brightly. “Marry me, and we could build a happy household where the laughs never stop.” Miss Joke declared with her hands on her hips.
“Nothing about that sounds happy to me.” Aizawa said, his voice completely deadpan.
“Ugh!” Miss Joke reeled back from the denial before laughing it off.
“So you two are friends?” Tsuyu asked with her index finger lightly touching her chin.
Miss Joke grinned and pointed her thumb at Aizawa. “Our agencies were close by, way back when! I’d save him a few times, and he’d save me. We fell in love, and you know how it goes…”
“It went nowhere.” Aizawa cut in pointedly, making Miss Joke snicker at him. “So, your school is here too?”
“Teasing you is always good for a laugh, Eraser.” Miss Joke smiled before motioning a group of students over to her. “And yeah! Come on over, everyone! Come meet U.A.!”
Four students approached Class 1-A from the group of other students. Three boys and one girl. All of them wearing gray polo shirts and dark brown pants as their school uniforms.
One of the boys was a tall, muscular young man with shaggy, unruly black hair sticking up in all directions around his head, somewhat similar to Izuku’s hairstyle. His eyes were a warm brown color, his bangs hanging just above them, and he had a smile on his face. He approached Class 1-A with a friendly look. “Whoa! It’s really them!”
The girl tapped on the boy’s shoulder excitedly. “Wowee! All those guys from TV!” She almost cheered at getting to meet the students that she’d watched during the Sports Festival. She was a slightly pale, curvaceous girl with a reasonably muscular build and a smile that showed off her slightly pointed teeth. She had wide, blue eyes with thick upper eyelashes and pronounced lower ones. Her hair was short, ash blonde and was styled with two long parts spiking outwards on either side of her head and a single, chin-length bang on her right side.
“Taking this test as first years? Pretty fast-paced, huh? Well, with everything that’s happened… No wonder they’re so capable.” The second boy said, looking slightly off to the side. He was a young man with small, black, oval-shaped eyes, a notably small mouth, and a rounded nose. He had wavy, shoulder-length black hair which was pushed back on his forehead before it came down to frame his face.
The fourth boy said nothing, hanging back and examining all of Class 1-A carefully. His skin was blue, rough, and rock-like, similar to a carapace. He had no visible hair, nose, or ears, but he had a wide, jagged mouth with a protruding spike sticking upwards on either side of his face, blue eyes, rimmed with thick eyelashes of the same color. His neck was made up of multiple different rings stacked on top of each other, which were a slightly darker blue than the rest of his skin.
“This is Class 2-2 of Ketsubutsu Academy!” Miss Joke introduced with a grin. “Say hello to my students.”
The boy with short black hair stepped forward and grabbed Izuku’s hands. “My name’s Shindo!” He introduced himself with a smile. “U.A.’s had it rough this year, right? The hits just keep coming.”
“Uh, yeah…” Izuku blinked at Shindo.
Shindo moved to shake Kaminari’s hand, then Kyoka’s, talking all the while as me moved to shake hands with everyone. “But you guys still have your hearts set on becoming heroes. That’s awesome!” He gave Class 1-A a smile and a wink while raising his fist in font of himself. “I believe the heroes of tomorrow need to have that kind of fortitude!”
‘So bright!’ Most of Class 1-A thought at the same time.
“What a straight-talking, eloquent, cool dude…” Kaminari blinked in surprise at Shindo’s introduction.
“Best of all, here’s Midoriya!” Shindo turned back to Izuku with a grin. “The winner of the Sports Festival and the one that helped capture the Hero Killer: Stain.” He held out his hand for a proper handshake. “I’m so glad that we get a chance to face guys of your caliber today. We’re going to give it our best!”
Izuku felt Shindo putting more strength in his grip, but his green eyes easily picked apart Shindo’s expression. “Your words don’t really match your expression…or your actions.” He said as he increased his own grip to match Shindo’s. “Emitter Type, vibration-based and most likely affects things around you rather than your own body considering the alterations to your muscular structure.”
Shindo blinked in shock at Izuku’s accurate dissection of his Quirk without even seeing it. “H-How?”
“Your muscles have clearly developed a resistance to intense vibration, but they’re not built to vibrate themselves at high intensity.” Izuku answered, not actually telling Shindo just how he’d figured out the basics of the other young man’s Quirk as they let go of each other’s hands. Collector had developed quite a bit in its analytical ability since starting U.A. and Izuku now picked up on things that gave hints to what the Quirks of others did along with understanding what Type of Quirk the person had.
“That’s our Class Prez!” Kirishima chuckled, hoping to ease the tension that had built up.
The girl lightly pushed Shindo aside with a smile. “Can I get your autograph, Midoriya? You were so cool at the Sports Festival!”
The guy with the longer black hair let out a small sigh. “Try not to be such a fangirl for our competition, Nakagame.”
“Uh…sure?” Izuku agreed after a moment to share looks with his girlfriends.
“Hey! Hurry up and change into your costumes. The info sessions about to start so stop wasting time.” Aizawa broke up the gathering, reminding all of the students that they were on a schedule.
“Okay!” All of Class 1-A responded quickly before heading for the doors of the arena.
Kyoka let out a little sigh, her nerves having eased a little. “It’s like…seeing all these other students is a good reminder.” It was nice to know that they weren’t the only ones in this situation after everything they’d gone through and that this would be a normal part of their curriculum, just like it was for all of these other schools and their students.
“Yup. We’re practically celebrities.” Kaminari chuckled with a grin.
“Really?” Shoji looked at Kaminari flatly.
“That’s what you took from this?” Sero shook his head at his friend.
Kaminari held up his hands between him and his friends. “It was just a joke…”
Miss Joke looked at the retreating students in confusion before she turned to Aizawa, who was walking towards the faculty entrance. “Did you…not tell them, Eraser?”
Aizawa continued to walk without saying a word.
-Later-
Within a huge rectangular room stood all of the students that were taking the Provisional License Exam. Hundreds of students, all wearing their hero costumes, stood facing a podium set up on a stage at the front of the room.
“There’s so many…” Camie whistled at how many people were here to take the exam.
“I know!” Ochako nearly gaped at how many people they’d be competing against.
Eeeeeee
Everyone winced slightly at the sound of the microphone feedback and looked towards the podium to see three men in black suits standing on the stage. The man directly behind the podium looked incredibly tired. He adjusted the mic and then began to address the massive crowd of students.
“Right… The Provisional License Exam. That’s what you’re all here for.” The man sighed heavily, his eyes drooping. “Yeah… I’m Mera, with the Heroes Public Safety Commission. My favorite type of sleep is non-REM sleep. Nice to meet you all.” All of the students started looking between each other at Mera’s clear exhaustion. “Work is so busy that I barely get any sleep! We’re terribly short-staffed… Just wanna sleep!” Mera lamented with a tired grumble as he hung his head. “With that important information out of the way, let me explain the exam.”
‘He’s not even trying to hide his exhaustion. Is this guy okay?’ All of the hundreds of students thought to themselves near simultaneously.
Mera let out a beleaguered sigh. “Getting right to it… All 1,540 examinees present will be competing in one massive free-for-all exercise! Simple, right?”
A few mutters of ‘For real?’ were heard from the massive gathering of students.
“Today’s society is saturated with Heroes.” Mera mentioned as he blinked twice to try and keep his exhaustion at bay. “And ever since Stain’s capture, plenty of people out there have raised about the role that Heroes should play.”
Both Izuku and Todoroki clearly recalled Stain’s philosophy, having heard his rant firsthand back in Hosu.
“The title of ‘Hero’ should not be given to those seeking reward and recompense, but should be earned through tireless self-sacrifice.”
“That said…as far as individuals go… Motivations aside, telling those who risk their lives in order to save others to ask for nothing in return would be rather harsh, especially in modern society.” Mera said looking out over the students gathered before him, the lights making the bags under his eyes more prominent. “So, whether it’s done for compensation or out of dedication to the cause, we have no shortage of Heroes out there saving laughs and putting villains away. Nowadays, the amount of time it takes to resolve any given incident is incredibly short.” He slumped forward slightly on the podium. “Those of you who earn their provisional licenses will be confronting such situations that unfold at a breakneck pace. Those that can’t keep up are doomed to fail.” Seeing the confused and anxious looks on many of the students’ faces, Mera continued. “Which is why we’re testing you on speed! Only the first hundred examinees to meet the requirements will pass.”
“Hold on! With 1,540 of us total, that’s not even close to half!” Many of the gathered students yelled.
Others cried out in disbelief. “For real?!”
Mera held up two objects, his expression unmoved by the outburst. “Society is rarely so kind… There’s no relying on luck.” Seeing more and more eyes looking at the items he was holding up, he moved on. “Now, the passing requirements involve these. Each examinee will be given three targets…” He held up the thin disk of metal with a black center. “Place them wherever you like on your body, as long as they’re exposed.” The screen behind him lit up to show a blank human figure with three of the targets placed randomly on it. “That means not on the sole of the foot or under the armpits…” With a sigh and knowing he HAD to clarify a bit further, he looked at the murmuring students. “…and no between the legs either.”
That got several gasps from more than a few of the students. Most noticeably the girls, though whether it was because they were scandalized, or their idea had been ruined, was left up to individual interpretation.
“Each student will also get six of these balls.” Mera held up a single red ball and then squeezed it once to show that it wasn’t rock solid and had some give to it. “The targets are rigged to ONLY light up when struck by a ball. You’re disqualified the instant that all three of your targets are lit. Those with three illuminated targets are considered ‘defeated’. To pass, you must ‘defeat’ two other examinees. That’s it for the rules.”
“Sort of like the U.A. Entrance Exam…no?” Aoyama said just loud enough for his classmates to hear.
Ochako shook her head. “No. Facing people is nothing like facing robots.”
“Not a single ball can be wasted if one wishes to pass.” Iida mentioned the number of balls they were given versus the number of targets they had to hit to ‘defeat’ another examinee. “Are the test organizers implying that we should attempt to steal balls from the other examinees?”
Bakugo narrowed his eyes at the ball and target in Mera’s hands. “These rules are even harsher than the entrance exam.” He said, but only Kirishima and Sero were close enough to hear him.
“Yes, yes…” Mera said into the mic to get all of the students’ attention back on him. “So we’ll be handing out balls and targets once this place opens up.” Several more people in black suits stepped forward holding boxes filled with the required items.
“Opens up?” Todoroki questioned before looking upwards as the room made a rumbling sound.
Before the eyes of the examinees, the roof and walls of the huge rectangular room pulled away and fell to the ground, revealing that they were all in the center of the arena with multiple areas built up around the space. Cityscapes, industrial facilities, suburban neighborhoods, a towering mountainous area, a forest, and even a waterfall that fell into a huge pond.
“With every type of landscape imaginable, you should all be able to find an area that suits you.” Mera spoke through the stadium speakers now. “Make the best use of your talents. We’ve carefully thought about all factors as we came up with these environments… What a drag. So much lost sleep…” The exhausted man bemoaned all of the work it took to set up the Provisional License Exam.
“THIS PLACE IS CRAZY BIG!!!” Most of the students cried out at seeing everything that was built up within the arena.
In the stands of the arena, able to watch as their students took the exam, sat the multiple teachers from the various Hero Schools across the country.
“Eraser, your fly is down.” Miss Joke snickered behind her hand, trying to play a little prank on Aizawa.
‘Why am I constantly surrounded by obnoxious fools?’ Aizawa thought to himself, knowing that Miss Joke would be like this the entire exam.
“Anyway, you’ve still got all twenty, huh?” Miss Joke asked Aizawa as she tried to spot her students among the massive crowd of examinees that were all putting their three targets on different places of their body. It’s a rare year when you DON’T fail anyone. I guess you must be fond of this class.”
Aizawa glanced over at Miss Joke. “Not really.”
Miss Joke burst into laughter at his answer. “Huh? Blushing are we? So lame! Makes me wanna date you!”
“Shove it.” Aizawa retorted, very familiar with Miss Joke’s antics.
“Pretty weird if that’s true, though.” Miss Joke laughed brightly, knowing how to read Aizawa after knowing him for years.
Down in the arena, Izuku and Momo were in full Class President and Vice-President mode as they came up with a plan for their class to pass. That would take up a full fifth of the available spots to pass this part of the exam, so everything could hang on having a great teamwork strategy.
“Early bird gets the worm here.” Izuku said to his friends and classmates. “People won’t be fighting their own schoolmates. Teaming up with friends whose Quirks you know seems like the way to win.”
Momo nodded in agreement. “Yes. We should try to stick together and move as a group.”
Bakugo was already walking away from the group. “As if. This isn’t some class picnic. Besides, my Quirk can’t be used to its fullest in a crowded space. My AP Shot would literally blast a hole straight through a person, so I need space!”
“Bakugo, wait!” Kirishima jogged after Bakugo. “We should at least work in a small team!”
“Kirishima, Bakugo!” Kaminari took off after them both, making a small team of three.
Todoroki looked at both Momo and Izuku. “My Quirk works best when I’m solo as well. So, I’ll see you all after the exam.”
Chikuchi sighed and walked over to Todoroki. “I’ll back you up. Our Quirks are at least compatible. Make a lot of ice and then melt it and I’ll have water to work with for days.” She gave Todoroki a nod and a small smile.
“Thank you.” Todoroki accepted the backup as he walked away with Chikuchi, both of them heading for the industrial area.
“Are they going to be okay, kero?” Tsuyu asked as she pointed to both of the retreating small teams.
Camie hummed thoughtfully. “I think so?”
Momo sighed a little. “I don’t think they’re better off on their own, but at least they each took others to help them.” Bakugo was being followed more than accepting help, but it still counted, sort of.
“Why aren’t they better off?” Sato asked as the rest of the class moved together, trying to find a good area for the start of the exam.
“Because all of our Quirks are already known.” Izuku answered easily while he scanned the area for a good position to start the exam.
That reminded everyone of the Sports Festival and the fact that it was a live, nationwide broadcast.
“5!” A countdown began.
In the stands, Miss Joke looked at Aizawa seriously. “The format might be different every time, but this exam has one thing that could be considered a ‘tradition’ now.”
“4!”
Izuku looked over his shoulder at his classmates. “The way to win I mentioned? I bet the other schools are thinking that too. This is going to turn into a battle between schools, I’m sure of it.”
“Which means picking a school to target should be our next step.” Momo easily caught on to Izuku’s plan. “Out of all the schools here today, only one has the disadvantage of their Quirks being known.”
“3!”
“That’s us, for sure.” Camie said with a little half-grin.
“Uh, guys…” Sero pointed towards the other examinees and the fact that all of them seemed to have surrounded the group from U.A. specifically.
“2!”
Miss Joke looked down on the arena field, able to see that all the other schools still in the same area had surrounded the U.A. students. “If you liked this class so much, you should’ve told them, Eraser! This exam always starts with…”
“1! Start!”
The exam began with a loud alarm as the group of 1-A students saw every other student in the area leap forward and throw one of their red balls towards them from every direction.
“…the U.A. Crush!” Miss Joke finished as she watched the literal hundreds versus fifteen attack.
Shindo caught Izuku’s attention as he leapt into the air and cocked by his arm. “A multiple Quirk user with an answer to every situation, right? Let’s see…” He threw his ball straight at Izuku, aiming for the target near the green-haired teen’s shoulder. “The nail that sticks out gets hammered down!”
In the stands, Aizawa watched on with an almost bored expression. “The U.A crush…right. It’s not like I didn’t tell them for any particular reason. It’s not going to change what they’ve got to do here. They still have to overcome the odds.”
“I’ve got the first barrage!” Izuku activated his Barrier Quirk and the entire class was safely under the translucent green dome a fraction of a second later.
The hundreds of red balls bounced off the barrier and fell to the ground all around them.
“Disorientate!” Toru called out and all of Class 1-A closed their eyes and dropped into low crouches. “Aoyama!”
“Oui, mademoiselle!” Aoyama’s belt glowed as he fired his Quirk right where Toru’s her costume was, right as it went invisible like its wearer. “Twinkling Cannon!”
Toru grinned, even though it was unseen. “Warp Refraction!” The beam hit her back and scattered within her invisible body.
“Combo Move! Laser Radiance!” Aoyama and Toru called out right before a blinding flash blinded everyone that even so much as glanced at it.
“My eyes!”
“I can’t see!”
“Too bright!”
The screams rang out from the hundreds of student’s surrounding Class 1-A.
“Return fire!” Momo called out as she took a ball in hand and the glow of her Quirk could be seen behind it coming from her palm.
Izuku dropped the barrier and everyone launched threw a ball or multiple balls. Shoji extended his arms, made dozens more, and each one picked up one of the multitudes of red balls that had fallen to the ground after hitting the barrier. Tokoyami unleashed Dark Shadow from beneath his cloak, the amorphous shadow creature grew its clawed hands to huge proportions and grabbed dozens of the balls as well. Sato downed two small containers of sugar, his muscles noticeably bulked up, but not to the same degree as granulated sugar, he moved swiftly, grabbing several of the balls from the ground and throwing them rapidly, his arms nearly a blur. Ochako touched dozens of the balls and threw them upwards into the air with their gravity removed, then pressed her fingertips together to release her Quirk, letting the balls rain down upon the blinded examinees.
“Ah!”
“Whoa!”
“Watch out!”
“I still can’t see!”
“Shit!”
“Duck!”
“Run!”
“Man that’s bright!” Miss Joke covered her eyes, even way up in the arena seating.
Most of the other teachers did as well, some grimacing or crying out as they hadn’t been fast enough to avert their gaze, or had been looking directly at the area when the flash had gone off.
The panicked students felt themselves being pelted from multiple directions, several hearing the beeps of one of their targets going off as it was hit.
“Throw back!” A bunch of the other students yelled, unleashing another barrage of the red balls in the direction that the U.A. students should be.
“Defense!” Izuku called out, using Search to try and keep track of as many of the other examinees as possible.
“Got it!” Mina, Kyoka, Tsuyu, Camie, and Koji called out.
Mina produced a thick wave of viscous acid from her hands and arms. “Max volume and max viscosity! Acid Veil!” She made large waves of acid to melt every ball thrown at the U.A. students from the east side of their group.
“Frog Lashing!” Tsuyu yelled out, her long tongue shooting from her mouth as she used its prehensile nature along with swaying her head and body to cover a wide range of the area between her and her classmates and the incoming balls. The red balls were knocked out of the air easily by her powerful tongue, flying off to the sides and even back the way the came in some cases.
“Heartbeat Cannon!” Kyoka plugged her jacks into the speakers on the back of her gloves and a devastating cone of intense soundwaves blasted every single red ball caught within them backwards at speed.
“Bird friends! Flock and swarm! Please stop the others from throwing things at us!” Koji yelled louder than anyone had ever heard him. Only a moment later an entire flock of pigeons that had been roosting atop the arena took flight and flew into the open roof with loud wingbeats, nearly blotting out the sunlight form above as they divebombed the other examinees.
“What the hell?!”
“Go away!”
“It’s in my hair!”
“Get it off! Off!”
“Ack!”
“It’s going for my eyes!”
The screams and panic among the other examinees increased even more as they were attacked by hundreds of pigeons.
Camie inhaled deeply while pulling two canisters from her belt and flicking the tops off, releasing massive clouds of the chromatic mist from her Glamour Quirk. “Genjutsu: Vanish Mist!” She called out before exhaling, mixing her chromatic mist from her breath with the mist form her two canisters, taking control of all of it, swirling it around to cover all of Class 1-A making them disappear from everyone else’s eyes.
The few students that could get a clear line of sight around the swarming birds, or had gotten their sight back form the blinding flash, were all looking around perplexed, not seeing a trace of Class 1-A.
“Where did they go?!”
“They ran away!”
“Where?!”
“I didn’t see them!”
With a brief period to take in the chaos they’d unleashed, Class 1-A tried to examine the other examinees for targets that already had at least one or two of their targets lit up.
“Right there!” Momo took aim and the glow from her palm was released. The force carried the red ball with it and slammed into a large student that looked similar to a Minotaur, hitting a target on his shoulder, turning the center from black to blue. The projectile that had carried the ball in a blurring speed fell to the ground, revealing a hard plastic pellet, similar to riot control pellets.
“Where’d that come from?!” The Minotaur-like examinee cried out in panic, as he tried to cover his final target with his hands and arms to prevent his elimination.
Up in the stands, Aizawa watched the teamwork of his students with his arms crossed as he addressed Miss Joke. “It’s a Hero’s job to turn the tables in a pinch. Once they go Pro, it’s a fact of life that their Quirks will be known to all. No offense, but compared to the rest of you, we at U.A. are looking towards the future.”
Miss Joke looked at him with a pout, even if she was happy to see that Aizawa had taken a liking to his current class.
“Whoa… A lot of targets just lit up all at once.” Mera’s voice came over the stadium speakers. “Almost fifty people nearly got eliminated, if not for dumb luck.”
That announcement DIDN’T lessen the panic of the students that had tried to crush the class from U.A. in the slightest.

Well…that went a bit differently for those attempting the ‘U.A. Crush’ now, didn’t it?!
Perfect block of the initial barrage! Blind and disorientate all attackers with a sick combo move! Fire back in a massive barrage of their own! Defend while Izuku keeps track of enemy positions with Search! Then Camie goes kunoichi with an upgrade to her costume and her own improvement with her Quirk to cast widespread Genjutsu! Kek!
Bakugo, Kirishima, and Kaminari form a three-man team and head off before the exam starts.
Likewise, Todoroki tries to go off on his own, but Chikuchi follows after him because their Quirks work well together!
No lone wolf bullshit here!
Aizawa is now allowed to be a bit smug as his class shows the results of real world experience compared to the safety of the classroom that the other schools use.
The fact that Izuku and Momo have everyone’s trust as Class President and Vice-President certainly helps to coordinate a big team play too!
Yoarashi isn’t the only one that can attack hundreds of other students simultaneously here!
Now that the Provisional License Exam has begun, what will be the results for a more prepared and trained Class 1-A? Will the presence of the multiple Quirk powerhouse that is Izuku completely upend the exam at the same time?
Keep reading to find out!
Until I get your reviews, later!
