Chapter 71 – Devil Fruits and a Thunderous Arrival

At Day Station on Enies Lobby, the Puffing Tom had arrived, letting out the customary whistle as the door were opened for all of the Marines and Cipher Pol agents to disembark. Most of the agents and Marines were quiet as they disembarked and started to head for their assigned positions for the after assignment briefing. Others whispered quietly between themselves about how the trip had completed without a single incident. While most wouldn’t say it, more than a few of the Marines considered this ‘mission’ to be a waste of time, since as soon as the Sea Train had left Water Seven right before Aqua Laguna struck, there was no chance of anyone following them.

“We head for the Tower of Justice immediately.” Lucci said to Blueno, Kalifa, and Kaku as Robin and Franky were practically dragged along in chains by Marines and Cipher Pol agents.

“Hey! Handle with care! Who do you think I am!” Franky snapped at one of the Marines handling the thick chain attached to him, latching onto the man’s head with his jaws.

“Ow! Stop it!” The Marine cried out as two other Marines pulled Franky off their fellow sailor.

As Franky was dragged along by multiple Marines, he internally cursed that he was almost out of power right now or he’d be able to put up one hell of a fight.

“Watch out! This guy bites!” A Marine called out in warning as several other Cipher Pol agents and Marines drew weapons to discourage any further resistance from Franky.

Lucci glanced back at Franky. “Noisy, isn’t he?”

Hattori, sitting on Lucci’s shoulder as always, let out a short trill. “Koo! Koo!” The pigeon flapped its wings once as if to expression Lucci’s annoyance with Franky.

Robin felt the eyes of dozens and dozens of the Marines on her and most of them weren’t quiet in their comments.

“Just what you’d expect from CP9.”

“So that’s her, huh? The one the government’s been after for twenty years…Nico Robin.”

“Sh-She’s absolutely gorgeous!” One of the younger Marines declared, stumbling over the first word, only to be shut up by his senior sailors before he got himself in trouble.

CP9 walked ahead of Robin and Franky, with the paved pathway lined with Marines on one side and Cipher Pol agents on the other. The massive gate at the top of a large stone staircase had two equally huge doors that were currently closed. On either side of the towering main gate were two smaller gates that could be opened for personnel to pass through so that the massive gates didn’t need to be opened often. Atop the gate of white stone were three huge cannons as well, meant to sink ships and repel any invaders before they could set foot on the island.

“Open the main gate!”

The two huge doors swung inward slowly, the mechanism to open them didn’t offset their incredible weight, so the gate could only be opened at a set speed. By the time that CP9 had made it to the top of the stone staircase with Franky and Robin, the gates were fully opened with a huge ‘thud’ sound of stone meeting stone.

“WHOA!!! WHAT’S UP WITH THIS PLACE?! I’VE NEVER BEEN TO AN ISLAND LIKE THIS BEFORE!!!” Franky yelled out loudly as he was forced to walk along the wide path that connected the main island to the land outside of the waterfall ring. “IS THAT A WATERFALL?! THERE’S A GIANT HOLE IN THE OCEAN!!! WHAT IS UP WITH THIS ISLAND?!”

“Shut up and walk.” Blueno said flatly.

Franky, absolutely ignoring Blueno, took a glance over the edge of the natural land bridge. “I can’t see the bottom! What the hell?!”

“Shut up.” Lucci’s cold tone cut through the air as they reached the halfway point of the land bridge and heard the loud ‘thud’ of the stone gates behind them closing. The loud sound spreading across the entire island alerting everyone that the main gates had been opened and then closed.

-Tower of Justice-

“It sounds like Lucci and the others are back.” Spandam said as he looked out the windows of his office. “And they’ve brought me the best souvenirs ever!” He laughed as he rested a simple sword against his shoulder. “Well, really, it’s the first time in five years that all eight members of CP9, including yours truly, have been in the same place at once! It’s a happy day! And yet…” He slapped a newspaper down onto his desk while glaring at the three men sitting on the couch across from him. “What in the world is this news article?!” It was well-known that the World Economy News Paper wasn’t actually under the World Government’s control…and articles like this one only further proved it. “In this Revolutionary Army district leader assassination plot, according to your orders, you only had to eliminate three people…but you killed TWENTY-THREE!!! If you have an excuse, let’s hear it!” The public learning about clandestine operations like this, especially ones that ended in massacres, looked bad on the World Government, and in turn on CP9, which meant that HE looked bad as the leader! If there was once thing Spandam hated, it was looking bad and having marks of failure on his record. He couldn’t rise through the ranks to take the highest positions within the government if he was deemed a failure!

“Yoyoi!” The tallest man of the three threw himself forward off the couch and slammed his head into the floor, his legs lifting high into the air as he practically performed a handstand, instead of a proper dogeza. I humbly apologize! Director, the blame here is all mine!” He was a very tall man, standing at 338cm in height, making him tower over his fellow CP9 members. He had massive hands, a huge mane of pinkish hair, and he often kept his right eye closed. Like the other CP9 agents, he wore a black suit, black pants and a black shirt, but instead of black dress shoes, he wore flip flops with green socks, a green tie, and hand guards covering the backs of his hands that were tied around his palm. All in all, he clearly had a kabuki-theme going. “Yoyoi! Yoi!”

“Stop it, Kumadori! Men shouldn’t bow their heads so easily!” The man sitting in the center of the couch barked at the prostrating man. “I’m about to explain what happened to the Director, so just settle down!” He was a dark-skinned man, with a Fu Manchu mustache, a pointed goatee, and long hair braided in a thick queue, that somewhat resembled a scorpion's tail. There was a scar running diagonally down his left eye. He wore small, pointed sunglasses on his forehead, had small hoop earrings, and a black tie over his bare chest. He wore a black traditional kung fu top that was white down the middle and always open. He also had a red sash around his waist over black kung fu pants and matching black kung fu shoes.

Kumadori pulled out a long knife and held it close to his belly. “Yoyoi! I’m very sorry, Director! In this sad situation, I’ll slit my belly and take responsibility!”

Jabra stood up from his seat and yelled at Kumadori. “Don’t be an idiot!” He turned to Spandam. “It’s not like that, Director! We infiltrated on the target date, as ordered, to carry out the assassination, but our plan, which nobody should’ve known about, had been leaked.”

The third man, at the end of the couch, was a big, round, oddly-shaped man with a yellow zipper across his mouth, which was fully functional, forcing him to unzip it if he wanted to speak. Like most CP9 agents he dressed in black formal wear and kept his green hair well-groomed. He had purple dimples on his cheeks and stubble on his chin. The only ‘oddity’ of his suit was that the jacket sleeves were too short, leaving his wrists visible with each covered by a bright red wristband.  He pulled the zipper across his mouth and spoke in response to Jabra’s reveal of intel being leaked. “I went and blabbed our assassination plot all over town. Cha pa pa!”

“What?!” Jabra’s head snapped to look at the third man so fast his long ponytail whipped around. “You again Fukurou?!” He nearly snarled at his fellow agent. “What do you think that zipper on your mouth is for?!” He grabbed the larger mans cheek and pulled on it. “When are you going to fix these flapping lips of yours?! We’re strictly confidential secret agents!”

“I went an told. Cha pa pa.” Fukurou said without remorse.

“Yoyoyoi! Please don’t blame Fukurou. I will take responsibility!” Kumadori declared loudly. “Harakiri!” He stabbed his stomach. “Tekkai.” He said a split second before the tip of the blade touched him. There was a sound similar to metal on metal as the knife failed to penetrate at all. “The humiliation! I can’t die!”

Jabra glared over at Kumadori. “Just die already.”

Spandam let out a sigh as he reached for his coffee. “That’s enough people.” He sipped the coffee and his eyes widened from the heat. “HOT!!!” He jerked the mug away from himself, splashing the coffee everywhere. “I spilled my coffee!”

Let it never be said that CP9 wasn’t an eccentric group within the government, only allowed to get away with such things because they didn’t officially exist.

-Rocketman-

Kokoro placed a simple ‘map’ of Enies Lobby on the floor so that the Straw Hats could see it. Thankfully, it was MUCH better than her ‘map’ of Water Seven, that she’d given to them when they’d met at Shift Station. “Listen up, pirates. I’ve been to this island a few times as conductor for the Sea Train, and this is what I know of the layout of Enies Lobby.” She pointed out the iron fence around the island, then the two gates at the front of the island, followed by the tower and then the Gates of Justice behind the island. “There’s a large iron fence to prevent any ship from approaching the island, except from the front. We’ll need to deal with that first. However, its these two gates, the Main Gate and the Island Gate that need to be opened if we’re going to bring Rocketman to a stop from full speed.” She tapped the two spots on the map.

“What’s the black part?” Nami asked, pointing to the large black circle around Enies Lobby between the island and the iron fence.

“That’s the waterfall, but you’ll see it when you get there.” Kokoro said as she took a sip from her bottle of booze.

Usopp blinked as he looked at the map. “The island is in the middle of a waterfall?!”

“Is that even possible?” Mikita gaped at the seeming impossibility of an island in the middle of a massive waterfall.

“So, we just need to open both gates, right?” Luffy asked the simplest question. “Got it!”

Sanji looked over the map and memorized it quickly. “We need to stop them from taking Robin through the Gates of Justice at the back…looks like a straight line to get there. The only place that seems like it can connect to them is that tower at the end of the island.”

“What about all the Marines on the island?” Chopper asked, knowing that a government island would have to have a lot of Marines on it.

“We’ll have to fight them.” Vivi answered, her face determined as she looked over the simple map. “They won’t just let us take Robin and Franky back, and we don’t know exactly how many people we’ll be fighting either. It could be two or even three-thousand, maybe more.”

Zoro barely glanced at the map before going back to checking over his swords. “We’ll need to be prepared to fight those thousands of enemies then.” He glanced at the three Climatact pieces on Nami’s hip. “Did you change your weapon, Nami?” They certainly looked different then how he remembered her weapon.

Nami grinned and pulled the three pieces out to show everyone. “Nope! This is the Perfected Climatact! Usopp worked on it to incorporate some of the Dials that we got from Skypiea!” She shot the gunman a grin for his work on her weapon.

“It wasn’t easy, but with Pagaya’s notes, I was able to shave down the outside of the shells and keep the inner parts intact so that I could fit them into the spheres at the end of each part of the Climatact!” Usopp declared with a bright smile, his thumb pointing at his chest. “Not to sing my own praises or anything, but it’s WAY more powerful than the original version since I used multiple types of Cloud Dials, a Thunder Dial, and a Heat Dial! It’s my greatest work to date!”

“That’s so awesome!” Chopper exclaimed, looking at Usopp and the Perfected Climatact with sparkling eyes.

Kokoro chuckled a bit at the enthusiasm and resilience of the Straw Hats. “I hope you all keep that up; we’ll be arriving at Enies Lobby soon enough. Ngagagaga!”

-Enies Lobby ~ Spandam’s Office-

“It’s been a while, Director.” Lucci greeted Spandam, with Kalifa, Kaku, and Blueno standing behind him.

“Welcome back, Lucci, Kaku, Blueno, and Kalifa.” Spandam welcomed them with an unpleasant smile.

Kalifa adjusted her glasses. “That’s sexual harassment.”

“Just saying your name?!” Spandam questioned the accusation.

“Cutty Flam, perpetrator of the physical assault of a government employee eight years ago on Water Seven; and Nico Robin, perpetrator of an attack on a naval vessel twenty years ago at Ohara in the West Blue, have been detained without much difficulty. We lost the newbie, Nero, in the apprehension of the criminals, but that was simply because he wasn’t of use to CP9. The criminals are on the other side of the door.” Lucci gave a summarized report of their completion of their five-year mission.

Jabra looked over the back of the couch with a sneer. “Long time no see, Lucci. You’re cheekier than ever.”

“You look stupider than ever, Jabra.” Lucci responded flatly to the other agent.

Kaku spoke up to prevent an argument. “Knock it off, you two. We just got back!”

Kumadori backed Kaku up. “Yoyoi! He’s right! Stop it, both of you! It’s been five years since we last met!”

“Cha pa pa…” Fukurou zipped up his mouth and suddenly blurred from his seat straight at Kalifa, his hands held together before him, almost like a meditation pose.

Kalifa wasted no time in kicking Fukurou towards Blueno. The large man punched Fukurou away from himself and towards Kaku. The square-nosed man elbowed Fukurou towards Lucci without hesitation. Then Lucci kicked the large, round man away, making him bounce off the stone floor and then roll into the wall.

“I figured you’d test us right away, Fukurou.” Kalifa said as she straightened her glasses.

“Rokushiki Skill: Te-awase Ranking…” Fukurou muttered, his hands still together and his eyes closed as he compared the strength of the blows that he’d just been hit with. “If the Doriki, the strength, of a regular person with a weapon is rated as a ‘10’, then based on that, I’ll now rank your Doriki, starting with…” He pointed at Kalifa first. “Kalifa…630.” His hand moved to point at Blueno next. “Blueno…810.” He shifted to Kaku with some surprise. “Kaku…2,200!” When he pointed at Lucci, his eyes widened considerably. “Lucci…4,000!”

“Four-thousand?!” Jabra jumped to his feet with a yell. “Are you serious?! That kind of Doriki is unheard of!”

Fukurou almost seemed amused by Jabra’s reaction. “It’s true! Everyone got stronger. Chap pa pa!” With a wide grin, he continued. “I’ve also recently measured both Jabra and Kumadori too, so I know who the strongest is!” He nearly crowed before listing all of the members of CP9 off in descending order. “Lucci – 4,000! Kaku – 2,200! Jabra – 2,180! Blueno – 820! Kumadori – 810! Me – 800! Kalifa – 630!”

Jabra pointed at Fukurou in annoyance. “Hey! I object, Fukurou! Lucci’s one thing, but why am I beneath Kaku?!”

“Cha pa pa. Kaku’s grown strong as well.” Fukurou answered simply, not even turning to look at Jabra.

“Hey, Kaku, don’t get a big head! Te-awase Rankings only measure physical power!” Jabra nearly snapped at the silent Kaku. “In a real fight, I’ll have my Devil Fruit power! Don’t ever forget…I won’t lose to you!” He pointed at Kaku fiercely.

“Think whatever you like. I’m not interested in that.” Kaku said without giving Jabra’s irritation anything to aim at.

Lucci’s expression didn’t change, though his next words were clearly meant to strike at Jabra. “Good. Don’t listen to what that stray dog is barking about.”

Jabra glared harshly at Lucci. “What do you mean, ‘stray dog’, Lucci?!” He snarled at his fellow agent. “You cat-faced monster!”

Lucci’s glare became sharper as both he and Jabra began to change, using their Devil Fruit powers as they growled and snarled at each other.

“Stop it, you two!” Kalifa chided both men with a sigh.

Kaku also sighed at the familiar sight of Lucci and Jabra arguing. “Jabra sure is touchy.”

“All of the island’s guards were gossiping today about how yesterday you got dumped by that waitress, Gatherine.” Fukurou blabbed out without a care.

“Hey! Wait a minute! How does everyone know about that?!” Jabra barked out, having returned to his normal human form as he glared at Fukurou.

Blueno looked away from Jabra, his expression flat. “Isn’t it obvious?”

Fukurou blabbed again. “I talked about it on the main island. Cha pa pa pa!”

“YOU!!!” Jabra was beside Fukurou, grabbing his cheek and forcefully zipping the other man’s mouth closed.

“Ugh! This is just happening because we started with this ranking nonsense right after meeting up.” Spandam grimaced at his subordinates. “As soon as you all mastered the Rokushiki you far surpassed the range of normal humans. Even a Doriki of ‘500’ makes you a superhuman!”

“The Director has a Doriki of ‘9’. Cha pa pa.” Fukurou partially unzipped his mouth to blab out Spandam’s weakness.

Spandam slammed his hands on top of his desk. “Shut up! That doesn’t matter, because I’m the Director! And I’ve got my special backup sword!”

Kalifa looked at Spandam flatly. “I’ve known how weak you are for a long time.”

“Grk!” Spandam slumped forward a bit, his pride clearly hurt. “You should watch what you say, Kalifa!”

“That’s sexual harassment.” Kalifa replied with a slight sparkle coming off her glasses.

Spandam gaped at her. “Huh?! Just because I responded to you?!”

“Director…” Kalifa’s voice was flat.

“W-What…?” Spandam questioned, his self-esteem taking multiple blows back-to-back.

Kalifa pushed up her glasses, making another sparkle come off them. “That’s sexual harassment.”

Spandam nearly fell over, collapsing against his desk. “What, the fact that I exist?!”

“Yoyoi! You’re too forward, Kalifa!” Kumadori declared as she stepped between Spandam and Kalifa. “Director, I will slice my stomach to make amends!” He pulled out his knife again and stabbed towards his stomach. “Tekkai.” The blade stopped cold against his body. “I’m so ashamed! I can’t die! Perhaps my mother in heaven is looking after me…”

Jabra glared at Kumadori as the tallest man slumped over. “Hurry up and die already!”

Spandam pushed himself up from his desk, shaking off the damage to his pride. “Anyway, good work on your five-year mission… Later, I have rewards to give you.” He looked at Kalifa and then Kaku, thinking about the Devil Fruits that he’d acquired at the black market. “First, introduce me to the last hope of this world!” He regained his haughty and arrogant personality as he looked towards the doors of his office.

Robin and Franky were pulled into the room and forced to stand before Spandam—noticeably at a safe distance so that CP9 could protect him if either tried to jump at him—while he sat on top of his desk.

“Hehehe… WAHAHAHA!!! I feel fantastic!” Spandam cackled as he saw Robin with her hands shackled behind her back with Seastone cuffs, and Franky wrapped in thick iron chains. “I’m surprised you survived that incident eight years ago, Cutty Flam!” Franky didn’t even bother looking at Spandam. “And here’s the most wanted woman in the world…Nico Robin. The citizens of the world have no idea how noble and great our work will be on this day. In fact, they will not learn about it for several years.” Spandam had a dark smile on his face as he stared Robin down. “In my opinion, the justice offered by the old men who currently run our government is tepid! Without sacrifices, we cannot achieve our goal.” He raised his hands in front of himself, his fingers curled inward. His dark smile becoming almost manic as his voice began to rise. “We are working for the peace of all humankind! It is right and good that we kill the fools who interfere with us! They are sacrifices made for world peace! Of course we must eliminate Fishmen and any other traitors who will not readily comply!”

Franky growled at Spandam. “Tom risked his life to protect the blueprints because of fools like you!” He roared out while leaping across the distance separating them—not a single member of CP9 moving to protect Spandam, showing how much they actually cared about the man’s life—and biting down on Spandam’s head viciously.

“Aiiieee!!!” Spandam screamed out in pain as Franky practically thrashed him around while gnawing on his head. “Ow! Augh! Assistance needed!” He screamed for his subordinates to get Franky off of him.

“Understood!” Kumadori stood up, grabbing his shakujō staff and holding it with both hands, his long pink hair moving unnaturally to slam Franky into the floor. “Yoi!”

“Gah!” Franky grunted out, once more lamenting his nearly depleted power.

With Franky subdued, Spandam quickly regained his fake courage as he started to kick the downed man over and over again. “It seems you temper hasn’t changed since we last met!” He still vividly recalled getting his face bashed in with the butt of a rifle stock. “Cutty Flam, if I’d known earlier that you were alive and had the blueprints, I could’ve spared myself a lot of trouble.” Spandam said as he put his foot on Franky’s head with a mocking smile. “Arresting you for past crimes…WAS SO EASY!!!” He stomped on Franky’s head three times. “By comparison, your friend Iceberg was a bother.”

Robin maintained her stoic expression, even as she once again saw the depths of corruption, nepotism, and inhumanity of those in power within the World Government. But twenty years on the run made her pay attention and take in all the information that Spandam was thoughtlessly blurting out.

“After Tom dies, Iceberg singlehandedly united the shipyards of Water Seven and set up a large corporation.” Spandam scoffed in irritation. “He should have hated the World Government, but he got close to it instead and eventually established the company as a government shipbuilder.” Franky’s eyes widened slightly as he finally, truly understood just why Iceberg had worked so closely with the World Government. “He is president of the shipbuilding company Galley-La and mayor of the water capital, Water Seven. Everyone supports it, and it is indispensable to the government. Even we had to be careful how we handled him!”

That’s why he made a deal with the government…’ Franky thought to himself, remembering the argument that he’d had with Iceberg when he’d returned to Water Seven.

“He WAS a smart man. WAHAHAHA!!!” Spandam laughed at still getting his way. “But then the wind began to blow my way, right when I was running out of patience and about ready to take drastic measures of my own. That was when I got the good news from Admiral Aokiji. Nico Robin was on a pirate ship heading for Water Seven!” His smile was a disgustingly dark thing filled with arrogance and entitlement. “To calm myself down, I had a cup of coffee and then planned out the whole thing, including approval for a Buster Call! There were some slight changes to my scenario…” That was a bit of an understatement as CP9 had nearly been forced to rush off of Water Seven due to the Straw Hats and the incoming Aqua Laguna. “…but look! I’ve got the two people I need to activate that ancient weapon right here!” He threw his head back and cackled maniacally. “DO YOU UNDERSTAND?! THE WINDS OF THE WORLD ARE BLOWING MY WAY!!! THE POWER TO RULE WHICHEVER COUNTRY I WISH IS IN MY HANDS!!! WAHAHAHA!!!”

“Why did Aokiji give you authority for a Buster Call?” Robin asked, the disbelief in her voice cutting through Spandam’s maniacal laughter…and his bloated ego.

Spandam looked at Robin, as if he couldn’t believe that a mere prisoner would ever dare question him. “Hmm? He rushed at Robin and punched her right in the face, knocking her to the ground. “DON’T ASK ME QUESTIONS!!! HOW RUDE!!!” Robin hit the floor with a grunt and looked up at Spandam as he stood over her. Franky glared at the twig of a man beating on a shackled woman. “Wahaha! You disgusting child of Ohara, the devil’s land! If I had not recognized the value of your existence, it all would have come to nothing! You should be thankful to me!” Spandam declared, shouting at Robin as she lay on the floor with a red bruise forming on her cheek. “From now on you will know suffering that will make you wish that you’d died many times over! Be prepared! I’m going to torment you…and use you…and throw you into the sea! That’s how grave your crimes are! Wahahaha!”

Robin nearly shivered in disgust when Spandam said he would ‘use her’ with his horrid, whiny voice.

-Rocketman-

“Okay, people, there’s Enies Lobby!” Kokoro announced as the single island covered in daylight, despite the late hour and the stormy weather, came into view as Rocketman raced down the tacks at full-speed, unable to steer or stop. “Take a real good look at the sky behind the island! Those are the Gates of Justice!”

Everyone stuck their heads out of the various windows and could only gape at the mountain-like steel gates in the distance. They were so large that they dwarfed Enies Lobby itself. None of the pirates could even begin to comprehend how such titanic structures could’ve possibly been built.

“HOW’RE THEY SO HUGE?!” Usopp yelled out, his eyes nearly bugging out of his head.

“THEY’RE LIKE MOUNTAINS!!!” Chopper screamed out, comparing the Gates of Justice to the Drum Rockies from his home island.

“They never open all the way.” Kokoro said, knowing more than enough about this place from experience and some connections. “When a criminal is sent through, that gate opens only a tiny bit. And on the other side of that gate is a nest of Sea Kings, the massive ones like in the Calm Belts, which no regular ship can hope to cross. I don’t know how they do it, but the government has a way to pass through.” Kokoro made sure the Straw Hats understood the severity of Franky and Robin passing through the Gates of Justice and that they couldn’t get them back if that happened. “You can’t waste time fooling around!”

“Right! I got it!” Luffy declared, his voice rumbling as he strode outside and stood atop the engine of Rocketman. He stared intensely at Enies Lobby in the distance, right near the horizon, knowing he’d need to be a bit closer before he could make it there with his Devil Fruit power.

-Enies Lobby ~ Tower of Law-

“Ah, yes, I promised a reward for completing your five-year mission.” Spandam said with a grin as he unlocked a secret safe beneath his desk and pulled out a small treasure chest. Setting it on his desk, he opened the lid and pulled out what was inside. A purple melon-like fruit covered in distinctive black swirl marking with a curled green stem, and a small bunch of bananas, though they were red instead of yellow, covered in the same black swirl markings with a green stem holding the small group of fruit together. “Take these.” He put the melon into Kalifa’s hands and the bananas into Kaku’s hands.

“WHOA!!! HOLD ON…” Jabra exclaimed as soon as he saw the fruits.

“Yoyoi! Those are…” Kumadori also recognized what Kalifa and Kaku had just been handed.

“DEVIL FRUIT!!!” Jabra, Kumadori, and Fukurou all said at the same time.

Both Franky and Robin looked at the two Devil Fruits wide-eyed, the shock of seeing such rare ‘treasures of the sea’ so suddenly was hard to hold back.

Jabra slid backwards almost to the far wall, raising his right hand between himself and the revealed Devil Fruits. “Oh no! Don’t bring that thing near me!”

“Cha pa pa pa! It’s my first time seeing one in person!” Fukurou said with some excitement.

“Yoyoi! Me too!” Kumadori agreed as he looked at each of the Devil Fruits closely, one eye closed.

Kaku looked at Jabra freaking out at a distance. “What are you so upset about, Jabra?”

Jabra had a bit of sweat on his face as he eyed the two Devil Frutis warily. “Idiot! Don’t you know?! If you possess those powers, it means a devil lives inside your body! For example, if I got close to those fruits, a devil would jump out of it and start fighting the devil inside me, and then my body would explode!”

“Really?” Kaku asked curiously, looking down at the Devil Fruit he held.

Blueno sighed at Jabra’s freakout. “Don’t be ridiculous. A member of an intelligence agency shouldn’t be taken in by such common rumors. Grand Line scholars have already explained the condition by which the powers are conveyed. What you’re talking about is an example of someone that ate two. His body fractured until nothing was left of it, and he died…”

“Greedy fools destroy themselves.” Lucci said with coldness. “If you think about the risk of just one Fruit, you can imagine the curse incurred by consuming a second one.”

“What?! Really?!” Jabra moved a bit closer to the group now that his superstition was put to rest. “But Director, How did you get two Devil Fruits?! Where did you find them?!”

Spandam smirked darkly. “I have connections…” He wouldn’t admit that he’d spent a fortune to buy them from the Kuro Kari at the black market like some common pirate or criminal. “Eat them for future battles!” He told Kaku and Kalifa as the two agents looked at the Devil Fruits in their hands. ‘Heh heh heh… Grow stronger CP9, I still have use for you all.’ Spandam thought to himself darkly. “But let me tell you one thing, even I don’t know what kind of devil lives inside them!”

Kalifa and Kaku sat on the couch on the side of Spandam’s office that had a coffee table in front of it. They each placed their new Devil Fruit on the table in front of them.

“It’s not a fruit of this world. I sense a strange power, something like gravity…and they’re completely unknown.” Kaku said, looking at the red bananas with black swirl markings.

“That’s not uncommon.” Kalifa knew that there were still many Devil Fruits that had yet to be recorded with in the Devil Fruit Encyclopedia.

Lucci sat in the chair at the end of the coffee table. “You’ll learn the name of the Devil Fruit by manifesting its power for the first time. But it’s a gamble as to what kind of power you’ll gain. If you get a weird power, your life is ruined and you lose the ability to swim.” He leaned back in the chair and a small smirk crossed his face as he watched Kaku and Kalifa stare at the Devil Fruits. “Whatever power you gain, it depends on how you use it. You probably won’t get weaker, and being unable to swim isn’t such a big deal. Many sailors have lost their lives looking for even a single Devil Fruit. Eat them. It’ll be fun.”

“Kaku! Kalifa! Don’t do it! This won’t turn out well!” Jabra said loudly, cautioning the two against consuming the Devil Fruits. “It’ll taste like poop! Like poop!”

Fukurou unzipped his mouth fully. “Jabra doesn’t want you to get stronger, Kaku. Cha pa pa!” He laughed at Jabra’s clear insecurity in his strength being surpassed by Kaku.

“Envy and jealously stain a man’s soul! Yoyoi!” Kumadori declared loudly.

Jabra glare at both of the other agents. “Shut up! Think about it you two…” He addressed Kaku and Kalifa. “…you could sell them for hundreds of millions! One bite could plague your life!”

“Hmm. This could be fun.” Kaku said as he peeled the first red banana, revealing dark yellow flesh with the same black swirl markings, before he chomped on the first part.

“If it’s a good power, I welcome it.” Kalifa cut a piece of the melon-like Devil Fruit off with a knife and fork that had been on the coffee table—probably for snacks brought to Spandam’s office—and took her first bite.

“Gyaaah! They ate them!” Jabra cried out in a mixture of panic and dismay.

Both Kaku and Kalifa looked revolted, closing their eyes and Kalifa even putting her hand over her mouth, as they forced themselves to swallow the Devil Fruit flesh.

“What happened?!” Fukurou asked, seeing the reactions of Kalifa and Kaku.

“Yoyoi! Had your body changed?!” Kumadori questioned loudly.

Kaku rasped out. “Yuck…”

“It tastes awful…” Kalifa looked like she was trying not to throw up.

“Hey… Try doing something! What kind of power did you get?” Jabra questioned, almost impatient to see just how much stronger Kaku and Kalifa would get with their new Devil Fruits.

Kaku had his head laid back on the top of the couch, trying to breath slowly to not vomit.

Kalifa leaned forward, her eyes closed and one hand over her mouth, just in case as she spoke. “Huff…huff… I don’t feel like anything has changed…”

“You’ll notice the enormity of the transformation soon. New powers have been born within you.” Lucci said as he stood up from the chair with an almost amused smirk. “I’m looking forward to this. Identify your powers as soon as you can! Depending on Director’s orders, you may soon be able to try them in battle.”

-Rocketman-

“Now we’re close enough!” Luffy exclaimed the instant that he felt Enies Lobby enter the range of his Devil Fruit. “Zoro!” He called out to the passenger car.

Zoro stepped outside, the wind rushing past the speeding Rocketman buffeting him intensely. “Yeah?”

“Cut it.” Luffy pointed at the huge iron fence surrounding the island while the rest of the crew poked their heads out to see what Luffy had called Zoro out for. “It’s in the way.”

“Got it.” Zoro climbed up onto the engine of Rocketman and unsheathed Yubashiri and Sandai Kitetsu.

Luffy grinned at everyone as his body sparked with electricity. “I’ll go open the two big gates!” He vanished in a spark a second later.

“Luffy!” Usopp called out, but Luffy was already gone.

Vivi patted Usopp’s shoulder. “Luffy is the only one that can make sure the gates are open by the time Rocketman gets there. We just have to believe in him.” The way her own Devil Fruit power was wisping off her body in thin clouds of sand hinted at her own agitation.

-Enies Lobby ~ Main Gate-

One of the many Marines standing guard at the gate noticed a change in the air, which was somewhat rare for Enies Lobby and its always sunny and stable weather. “Huh? He touched his shirt and a slight ‘snap’ was heard, the crackles of static. “Is the air charged?” He looked up at the sky, but saw all the clouds still far away, as was normal for the island.

KRAKBOOM

A towering lightning bolt slammed down on the edge of Enies Lobby, throwing Cipher Pol Agents and Marines around, shocking those that happened to be too close to the point of impact. Many of them saw their vision go white from looking at the intensely bright lightning. The yelling and cries of shock, pain, and terror rang out as thunder rumbled throughout the air.

Luffy walked past the defeated, injured, panicked, and disoriented Marines and Cipher Pol agents without a word. Only those at the very top of the stone staircase could even see or react to Luffy, having been far enough away for the blast of lightning to be mostly unharmed. The guards readied their weapons, swords, spears, pistols, and rifles…but no one fired or charged at Luffy. They only stared and trembled at the pirate—with his straw hat shadowing his eyes—as he walked closer and closer. In the quiet, Luffy walked straight between the gathered guards and put his hands on the massive gates.

None of the guards said a word, still trembling in place, but all of them thought the same thing. ‘He can’t possibly think that he can open the main gates by himself…right?

BAM

The bang of the two stone doors slamming into the walls of the gate was almost as loud as the lightning that Luffy had arrived in. The eyes of every Marine and Cipher Pol agents watching bugged out and their jaws dropped open in absolute shock. The main gates were wide open…by the hands of a single man.

Luffy walked straight across the bedrock bridge leading to the Island Gate without slowing down or looking back at all. This time, however, the guards at the gate started shooting immediately and the loud calls to aim the cannons were heard from the top of both the Main Gate and the Island Gate.

One of the Cipher Pol agents within the Main Gate dialed the Transponder Snail and began to report the break-in. “This is the Main Gate! Calling the Island Gate and the Director! An intruder has broken through the Main Gate!”

As the bullets passed through his body with small sparks of electricity, Luffy walked through the hail of gunfire without slowing down in the slightest, much to the growing horror of the guards. More and more panicked cries began to rise up from the guards before Luffy raised his right arm, getting instant silence. The limb turned into a crackling bolt of lightning that Luffy focused into a thin, contained blade-like shape…that was also a few hundred meters in length…pointing straight upwards. With a swing of his arm behind him, the lightning blade cut straight through the top of the Main Gate, passing through the stone and metal without slowing down, destroying the top of the structure and the massive artillery cannons atop it. As stone and debris fell to the ground like a landslide, Luffy raised his head, the brim of his hat no longer shadowing his eyes.

“Move.” Luffy said simply as he walked forward again.

“S-S-Someone…g-go wake up Oimo and Kashi! Wake them up now!” A guard yelled out loudly.

Luffy narrowed his eyes and a pulse was felt throughout the air.

Every guard flinched as if they’d been punched before their eyes rolled back and they started collapsing all at once, some of them foaming at the mouth. The sounds of their bodies hitting the ground, along with their weapons, filled the air, but Luffy didn’t pay that any attention as he put his hands on the two large stone gates.

BAM

The doors slammed into the walls of the Island Gate and Luffy walked straight through them. He saw, heard, and even sensed all of the thousands of Cipher Pol members and Marines gathering around his location, but he kept walking down the wide main street of Enies Lobby. Marines and agents gathered atop nearby buildings, along the many staircases leading up to different levels of various buildings, and even in the street surrounding Luffy until he couldn’t walk forward anymore, a large circle of space separated him from the thousands of enemies that aimed pistols, rifles, bazooka, spears, swords, and all sorts of other weapons at him.

“Hey, Straw Hat Luffy! How many of your crew did you bring here?!” One Marine yelled out, his courage bolstered by the literal thousands of people with him surrounding the pirate.

“There are ten-thousand soldiers on Enies Lobby!” A Cipher Pol agent mocked as many chuckles and jeers rose up from the large gathered force.

Luffy merely took in a deep breath. “BRING ME PIGEON BASTARD!!!” He bellowed, his voice thunder that shook the air as he unleashed his Conqueror’s Haki in a widespread blast that was like a punch straight to the spirit of every enemy within his range.

The thousands of Marines and Cipher Pol members that had surrounded Luffy all collapsed like sacks of rocks, not a single one of them remained conscious, much less standing, all of them had blank eyes, foaming mouths, and barely even twitched as they lay strewn over the ground, the stairs, and the rooftops.

-Spandam’s Office-

“WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?!” Spandam had only just received the report that the Main Gate had been breached when the explosion at the same gate destroyed the top of it. Then the loud sound of the large gates at the Island Gate were heard slamming open louder than anyone on Enies Lobby had ever heard them before. Sweat was already starting to form on Spandam’s face as he nearly pressed his face against the glass of one of the windows in his office.

Lucci stared out the window, his eyes narrowed, but if one looked closely, they’d see the bloodlust barely hidden in the assassin’s dark eyes.

“Who could force open both the Main Gate and the Island Gate singlehandedly, and with such speed?” Jabra demanded as he also looked out the window/

The rest of CP9 didn’t get to comment as a single, soft-spoken name was heard.

“Luffy.” Robin said with a little smile on her lips, having just briefly felt her lover’s Conqueror’s Haki brush against the absolute limit of her Observation range—especially while being weakened and worn down by the Seastone shackles—and it made her heart soar knowing that he was already here.

Straw Hat, Monkey D. Luffy, Captain of the Straw Hat Pirates, with a bounty of 200,000,000 Beri.” Kalifa rattled off the epithet and bounty of the lone intruder.

“A single pirate dares to invade Enies Lobby?” Fukurou questioned, sounding like he couldn’t believe what he was asking.

Spandam began to tremble just slightly as he recalled the words that Aokiji had said to him when giving him the Golden Transponder Snail that would allow him to summon a Buster Call.

“Be aware, that if you follow through with this plan of yours, you’ll be directly challenging a rapidly rising pirate and his crew. That same pirate, Monkey D. Luffy, is the grandson of Monkey D. Garp. Having crossed him recently, I know his strength well, and that’s why I’m lending you the authorization for a Buster Call this one time.” Aokiji told Spandam with the most serious look that many had EVER seen on the lazy Admiral’s face as he placed the Golden Transponder Snail into Spandam’s hands. “Do not underestimate him…he is MUCH like his grandfather.”

“Nnnn…” Spandam ground his teeth as he clenched his hands into fists, fighting the growing anxiety—and fear—within him. ‘I thought Admiral Aokiji was being a bit too generous with this assessment. I didn’t think he meant that the punk had the same insane strength as Garp!’ He screamed in his mind, terrified of ANYONE that could slam open the massive stone gates of Enies Lobby with their bare hands.

“Director! What’re your orders, sir?! All the soldiers gathered on or around the main street are down!” A voice yelled through the Transponder Snail. “Director?!”

Spandam looked down at the receiver blankly for a moment before her shook his head and brought it up to his mouth. “STOP THE PIRATE AT ALL COST!!! He must not reach the special prisoners! Tell Baskerville to mobilize every force available on the island! Get Oimo and Kashi up right now!”

“Yes, sir!” The voice on the Transponder Snail responded swiftly.

“What’re your orders, Director?” Lucci asked, though it looked like he had his own plans forming already.

“Guard the prisoners here! All of CP9, your orders are to protect me…I mean…to keep Nico Robin and Cutty Flam secured until transport through the Gates of Justice is ready!” Spandam declared as he shook viciously, both from anxiety and rage. ‘I will NOT allow my plan to fall apart now! Not when I’m so close!’ He snarled internally as he looked at Robin and Franky, seeing the belief in Robin’s eyes and the smirk on Franky’s face nearly made him snap.

-Enies Lobby ~ Iron Fence-

Rocketman hurtled straight towards the huge iron fence that surrounded the Judicial Island. On the pointed ‘nose’ of the prototype Sea Train, stood Zoro, Sandai Kitetsu and Yubashiri in his hands as he focused on the rapidly approaching fence.

“Nitōryū Iai: Rashomon! (Two Sword Style Drawing Technique: Thin Life Gate)” Zoro slashed his swords faster than most people could hope to follow their eyes.

The iron fence directly in the path of the speeding Rocketman suddenly separated from the rest, the thick iron bars cleanly sliced through, leaving a large gap in the first line of defense for Enies Lobby. Rocketman slammed into the separated iron bars and didn’t even slow down as it continued barreling forward, carrying the cut out part of the fence with it.

Zoro hopped into the conductor’s cab with Kokoro as Rocketman ran aground, throwing up dirt, rock, and dust. The still standing guards and soldiers yelled out in panic as they rushed out of the way of the speeding Sea Train. With its out of control speed, it easily crash up the stone staircase and through the Main Gate. The unconscious guards and soldiers at the Island Gate weren’t able to cry out…or even move…as Rocketman rolled through the gate and finally ground to a halt as it tore up the main street of Enies Lobby, thick clouds of steam pouring out of the damaged engine along with a heavy cloud of coal smoke.

The soldier that had just gotten off the Transponder Snail with Spandam, frantically grabbed for the receiver again. “DIRECTOR!!! MORE INTRUDERS HAVE JUST STORMED ENIES LOBBY AND MADE IT THROUGH BOTH GATES!!!

The thunderous arrival of the Straw Hat Pirates had already shaken up Enies Lobby more than it had ever been before.

Spandam and CP9 pushed Luffy’s ‘nakama’ button.

They SHOULDN’T have done that!

While Spandam gives Kalifa and Kaku the two Devil Fruit s that he bought from the Kuro Kari in the black market. They might not have any time to get a handle on them with how quickly the rest of the Straw Hats have arrived!

Me thinks Spandam is going to find out that he EXTRA fucked up once Luffy sees the bruises on Robin’s face!

Luffy proves just who’s grandson he is as he PUSHES open the Main Gate and the Island Gate of Enies Lobby with his bare hands! Garp is definitely going to laugh his ass off when he hears about that!

Now that the Straw Hats are on Enies Lobby…what battles will begin?

Keep reading to find out!

Until I get your reviews, later!
