Oneshot: An Untitled Fanfic

I imagine everyone was expecting goose versus kitsune, or yet another entry in the hungry goddess series, but nope. Given that most of the commissioned oneshots have been shared by Nematrec already, I figured why not go with something completely new to everyone this month? So, today's oneshot is...

Wait... that can't be right, can it?

*Checks notes

Yup. Somehow it is. It appears that I really have written a bit of sailor moon fanfiction. Certainly not my usual fare. However did that happen?

So, this plot is actually pretty old now. It came about while I was reading Dungeon Keeper Ami—specifically Ami's uneasy alliance with Jadeite—and was wondering what a story that focused on similar interactions might look like. That was the idea that eventually grew into both An Uneasy Stalemate and A Twisted Fate. This is the ungrown version. It's a bit... well... not my thing.[1]

The observant among you will have noted that I claimed the plot was old, and not the actual written story. The story is, in fact, pretty new. You can blame my partner for that. After reading the first couple of chapters of A (Not So) Simple fetch quest years back, she was so traumatised that she's refused to read anything else I've written ever since. That even includes An Unruly Summon, which is a little inconvenient, given that we'll be cosplaying Thomas and Wendy at the JNC panel at October's MCM. Given that she really likes sailor moon, this was my attempt to rectify the situation. It's going to be a sort of unstoppable-force-meets-immovable-object situation. (Your stories are too gory... but... but... sailor moon!) I look forward to seeing whether I can convince her that I can write non-gruesome stuff from time to time.

This story starts at episode 11 of the original anime.

[1] Okay, yes, it has magical girls and the sort of grey morality I'm fond of, insofar as that's possible in the sailor moon universe, but I don't think I've ever written fan fiction before, nor do I like my protagonists to consistently win through unearned narrative causality/plot armour, which those gals always do.

That was actually quite good as a short story. It really kept me guessing about how it would turn out, right up until they calmed down after discovering the truth.
