Spirit of 2014. The full story of the Donbass War. (Unlocked)

Eleven years ago, the Russian Spring rolled through eastern and southern Ukraine, leading to the reunification of Crimea with Russia. The new government in Kiev, having just taken power through the Euromaidan, decided to crush the pro-Russian protests by force, leading to the War in the Donbass.

Few remember those events in detail - the spring of 2014 is covered in a thick veil of propaganda and mythology. We have scoured long-forgotten blogs, defunct news websites, talked to participants and checked out many other archival sources, all with one goal: reconstructing a detailed chronology of those events — the Spirit of 2014!

The summer of 2014 brought fire and steel. Low-level civil conflict turned into combined arms warfare, protestors with hunting rifles turned into mechanized battalions. Both Kiev and the Donbass put their energy into creating war-ready armies, which would soon clash on battlefields that had last heard the thunder of artillery in World War 2.

We also discussed the heroes of the Donbass Revolution; both the famous and the forgotten ones – where they came from, what they contributed and what became of them. The Donbass War, like so many revolutions, devoured its own children, and too many heroes of the Russian Spring found an early grave. To remember the Donbass War is to remember its warriors – and to be a warrior, as we know, is to live eternally.

I would not recommend exchanging whatever currency you have into Roubles at the Istanbul airport exchange bureau - the rate is extremely punishing. One should change a small amount for the Moscow taxi fare at the airport in Istanbul and later on, when in Moscow, look for an exchange bureau with a good exchange rate. You do not pay for your hotel stay upfront anyway, so you will have time to change your money

In any case US spy satellite data could prove beyond the shadow of a doubt that the Russian side shot down MH-17 but they have never released it, not even to the kangaroo court investigating the incident in The Netherlands. They have always said trust us, our satellites prove that it was the DPR forces but we can't release the data, we're the good guys so why would be lie. Never trust the talmudics. https://consortiumnews.com/2024/02/07/robert-parry-vindicated-on-mh-17-reporting/

There's some reporting that Putin was returning from South Africa at the exact same time as MH17 was shot down and that elements of the AFU thought they were taking out Putin by taking out a passenger flight over The Ukraine. https://www.unz.com/runz/american-pravda-who-shot-down-flight-mh17-in-ukraine/

Thanks for this great work. What is your take on the Ukrainian Government recognizing russian sovereignty over parts of the occupied territory this year? It would be great if you could talk about this on the next sitrep, so your subscribers can succeed gambling on polymarkets

This is great content 👌 It would be even better with a well put together visual accompaniment Also, i wanna know more about these fire missions from inside Russia and the tank battalion crossing the border to help Also, who else got a semi at the bit when wagner takes luhansk airport?

It took me several days to listen to this, partly because it's a tragic story in parts. My family is from Northern Ireland, I'm a son of The Troubles, and never got to meet my grandfather. Disputed territory is one thing, but for the rulers of that territory to persecute its natives boils my piss something fierce. I hope the end comes soon for these long-suffering people.

Howard Crane

This is very educational about the history of this crucial cultural and industrial region. Thank you!

Monumental work, and much-needed. Many thanks for the great job to both of you. Kirill - you are a star. I wish you guys made a break-up of the podcast so that people could revisit specific points. It's a gigantic podcast and a myriad of important facts that are difficult to take in in one go.

Hey guys I don't know if you ever heard of "Туземный Совет Трудящихся", he's a historic Russian you tuber and has been covering the Chechen wars as well, especially the combat and battles. There's some things I disagree with him on but in general it would be cool if you can do a podcast together. Especially about either current events (SMO) or the Chechen conflict. Thanks.

Klim Kazantsev

Would you guys consider opening up something for donations, I'd rather donate to organisations of Russian veterans or for the children in Donbas, there's to many scammers out there. RWA donations to war the affected.
