Chapter 3: Team 7

“You are late!”

That’s how the pink-haired girl greeted me in the morning, so I decided to ignore her.

She was probably right about me being late, though. My memories are still very jumbled. Everything is mixed up, and there is probably a lot of information missing.

It was already lucky that I remembered how to get to our training field, or even the fact that I had to come here at all.

It also took me longer because I had to secure some new clothes.

I almost had a heart attack when I opened the wardrobe. There was only one piece of clothing… some ugly orange jumpsuit. What kind of ninja would wear something like that?

I refused to wear it, so I left my house in my underwear and stole some clothes from a nearby drying rack that probably belonged to my neighbor.

Both pink hair and Sasuke were staring at me now.

“Naruto, what the heck are you wearing?” Pink hair asked me. What was her name again?

“I’m trying something new.” I didn’t want them to get too suspicious about my change of style. If the village discovers that I am an impostor that is somehow occupying the body of one of their ninjas… that would be very bad for me.

“Are those clothes even yours? They are at least three sizes too big.” Pink hair pointed out.

I looked down at myself. I had to secure the black pants with a rope to prevent them from falling down, and my black shirt was extremely baggy and flopping around in the wind. But these were the only black clothes available, and I refused to wear any other color.

I already had to make an exception with my blue sandals, but I couldn’t go barefoot.

Sasuke was yet to say anything, and after a few seconds of observing me, he lost interest and returned to staring into the distance while he remained seated next to a big tree.

I nodded to him in approval. Unlike the pink hair over there, Sasuke had almost everything down to be a cool assassin. Dark clothes, dark hair and eyes, aloof attitude, and he almost never talked.

Pink hair was still looking at me, probably expecting an answer to her previous question.

“The washing machine ruined my usual uniform, so I had to borrow these from a neighbor.” I decided to keep the explanation very simple and free of loopholes. There isn't a high chance this girl knew who my neighbors were, so my lie is without flaws that could be exploited.

“What’s a washing machine?” She looked very confused.

Oh shit! Do they not have washing machines in this world? My apartment has a TV so I assumed they have electronic appliances from the 20th century at least.

Think of something, quick!

I extended my hands in a showing manner.

“These! My hands are the greatest machines to wash clothes, hahaha!”

Pink hair frowned.

“Well, of course… how else are you going to wash your clothes? You are so stupid, Naruto.”

She turned to look at Sasuke.

“Isn’t that right, Sasuke?”

“Hmph!” That was all he said.

I decided two things at that moment.

One, I didn’t like this pink-haired girl.

And two… Sasuke is the coolest person I have ever met. Other than my sensei, of course.

I felt a disturbance in the wind behind me, and I turned around with a kunai in hand, ready to face any danger.

“Hoho, not bad Naruto. Good reaction,” the new arrival said.

I looked up at the man. Yes, this was not a child like the other two. This was an adult ninja in front of me. And one I had at least some memories about.

“Um… Kakashi sensei.” I blurted out, and he nodded at me as a greeting.

“You are always late, Sensei!” complained the girl with pink hair.

I just realized something about her, as the sun shone on her head.

“What a giant forehead.” I blurted out without thinking.

My comment seemed to have taken everyone by surprise. And now they were looking at me with distinct expressions.

Sasuke’s eyes moved slightly, almost revealing his tremendous shock.

Kakashi had his mouth open, or at least I think he did. It’s hard to tell with that mask on.

Forehead looked genuinely pissed off.

“What did you say?!” she screamed at me.

I raised my hands in a placating manner.

“I wasn’t trying to insult you, I swear. I was just pointing out a sma… a detail that I noticed. Also, I would highly recommend that you start wearing the protector in the right place. I mean, you are leaving your biggest weakness exposed like that. That seems like a bad idea.” I tried to at least offer some constructive criticism.

“How dare you! My forehead is not that big!” She did say that, but immediately brought her hands up to cover it.

Yes, this girl had an obvious complex with that. As her comrade, it would be uncouth of me to make fun of her for it or even point it out anymore.

“I understand, I will not point out your insecurities. My apologies, Forehead.” I gave her a polite bow, not realizing at that moment that I had called her the wrong name. For some reason, I was unable to remember her real one.

Kakashi had to stop her from jumping at me with a kunai in her hand.

“Okay, that’s enough… let’s leave this aggression for when we are doing combat practice,” said Kakashi.

“When is that going to be? You haven’t taught us anything yet.” Sasuke said with a deep frown.

“Well… not today. Today you have a mission to complete,” my sensei said with a grin, I think.

“A mission? Awesome!” I could not wait to go on a real ninja mission. I wonder what we are going to do. Maybe an assassination of an important target… or maybe some espionage mission. I didn’t get many of those in my past life.

This is so exciting!
