Chapter 50: The Lizardmen Squad gets Decimated

She turned her gaze back and managed to move her body in time to avoid a spear aimed at her chest.

But then, she lost her balance due to her injured leg and fell down.

From the waters of the lake, a large group of lizardmen started to emerge.

“Lizardmen! This is very bad!” Tolfin glanced down at his mount. “Seth, get off the zarlas, now!”

The boy hurried to dismount the creature, and as soon as he did, he saw Tolfin using his massive fist to punch the head of the lizard.

It let out a painful noise and collapsed on the ground.

“W-What did you do that for?” Seth staggered back.

“Lizardmen can use their voices to control any reptiles weaker than them. The zarlas would have turned against us.” Tolfin explained.

“So, that's what happened to mine…” Zephyr said. Now he was glad he didn't have to kill it.

“Stay behind me, Seth.” Tolfin held his axe high and moved closer to the shore.

“I can fight too!” Seth unsheathed his new hunting knife.

Tolfin saw the knife and shook his head. “That wouldn't do much. Lizardmen scales are extremely resistant. Normal blades won’t cut or pierce them. Only those who can manifest the elements like Zephyr can kill them.”

“What about you?” Seth asked. He had never seen Tolfin use any magic. 

Even so, he could tell he was a fire awakened by the color of his eyes.

Tolfin's orange eyes became a lot brighter, like they were about to erupt into flames. “I have a few tricks.” He said with a grin.

Zephyr approached the girl, and she scrambled to stand up again before she turned her bow to him. “Stay away!”

“I’m not your enemy.” He said with exasperation and then pointed his finger at the lizardmen. “They are! We should fight together.”

“We can fight separately just fine.” She answered coldly. Since the arrival of Tolfin, she had gotten a lot more wary of Zephyr.

“You can't even move from the spot, can you?” He glanced at her bleeding leg. It was getting worse, and her skin was looking paler now. “You will die if you try to fight alone.”

The first lizardman set foot on the shore and hissed at them.

The girl twisted her body and shot an arrow at his head.

An arrow pierced the scales on his forehead and became buried in the lizardman's skull. His eyes became completely white, and he fell back into the waters. 

The girl immediately loaded another arrow on her bow. “I can defend myself!” She gave Zephyr a side glance.

‘So stubborn… even her aggressive way of talking is similar to that Princess.’ He noticed.

But it was evident that despite her confident words, she was close to her limit.

Zephyr glanced over the group of lizardmen and used his Identify spell.

Their levels ranged from 15 to 19, like the ones he fought before.

[Identify spell is now Level 5]

The strongest one was still the Chief, who was standing at the back.

The major issue was their numbers. This time, the Chief had come back with a group of twelve lizardmen.

The girl had already killed one, and the Chief was standing in the water, but they still had ten angry creatures to deal with.

He wasn’t really worried. His lightning magic appeared to be especially effective against them.

As long as he killed them fast enough and continued to gain levels, he would not need to worry about running out of mana.

He jumped in front of the first group. “Lightning Nova!”

The lizardmen hissed in pain. His magic was even more harmful now that they were covered in water.

One of them even fell down while the others became staggered.

[Lightning Nova is now Level 3]

“Lightning Strike!” Zephyr took the first lizardman down. The spell hit him on the head…and instant kill.

Another one was taken out by an arrow.

Tolfin jumped into action. “Ahhh!” He shouted, and his massive axe became engulfed in flames.

When he brought it down on the stunned lizardman, this one couldn’t even complain before he was cleaved in half.

The remaining seven hurried to charge at them, trying to overwhelm their enemies with their numbers.

Even the Chief had no choice but to run at them too. Waiting behind was not going to help him.

Tolfin started exchanging blows with three lizardmen while the rest approached Zephyr and the girl.

Zephyr got in front of her and fended off one lizardman with his sword.

“What are you doing?! Are you crazy? I could shoot you right now!” She shouted at him.

“If you still have arrows, you would be better shooting at them!” Zephyr used the sword on his right hand to deflect a spear attack and used his free hand to throw another spell.

“Lightning Strike!”

[Level up…status recovery]

“Ha! I could do this all day, come on, lizardmen!”

Tolfin chopped his three opponents to pieces while the archer girl took down one more lizard.

The remaining ones were taken down by Zephyr, leaving only their leader left.

The blue-scaled lizard hissed at him with pure rage.

In a single day, the Chief had lost an entire squad of warriors. This was the worst loss of his life without a doubt.
