2023-07-12 03:31:24 +0000 UTCAh yes, somehow I forgot that I've seen at least a couple seasons of this show. Think it's going to be fun to rewatch with you. This pilot to me feels a bit, I guess, busy? Seemed like they dove right into a bunch of action that could've taken place over a few episodes to develop things/characters a bit more maybe, for me anyway. But the story and characters are definitely interesting plus pretty to look at which always helps 😜

I tend to skip right to s2 for rewatches (just a personal choice i cant explain without spoilers) but will watch it for reactions. This is a beautiful cast. The lore and characters are all so rich. I look forward to your journey exploring this world.

2023-07-11 23:09:23 +0000 UTCAs an old person now I relate more to even early 20 peeps versus teenagers xd So always happy with the aging up decisions. You can also not pretend that 28 year old is fresh out of high school xd As for Margo/Janet reason switch is very stupid... They believed there would too many J named characters in season 1 overall and in particular Janet vs Julia vs Jane would be issue for viewers. I would say I love Margo more than Janet though for the character xd So I am cool with the change (Sorry to any Janets out there. You have awesome namesake in Good Place!)

2023-07-11 16:27:05 +0000 UTCYeah, Quentin and Julia were around 17 (seniors in high school) at the beginning of book 1, so they definitely aged up the characters. They're around 21 or 22 here. Also, Margo is Janet in the books (not sure why they decided to change the name, but they did).

2023-07-11 08:09:44 +0000 UTCAh The Magicians. I remember first episode being intriguing but not until the gory smiley face it all clicked for me in place. There is this cool combination of whimsical fantasy and dark fantasy while exploring some really good character relationships. I believe books characters were younger I think undergrads. Here making it a grad school instead allows the characters to come with more personal backstory then a recent high-school kid would have. I adore Eliot and Margo here just randomly befriending Quentin. This is perfect illustration of "Introverts don't make friends they get adopted by extroverts" if I ever seen one. I also love Julie's story of not accepting rejection from the world of magic. Looking forward to your thoughts as we continue with season 1 :) Cheers!

This time, I'm going into it with a different perspective. I'll continue watching this with you and see how I like it. I'm not gonna say that this first episode blew me out of the water, but it's still quite good. Definitely better than a lot of other book-to-tv/movie adaptations out there
