I think he was around 18 when he got shoved into the Viscount role, head of the family and basically a father (more than a brother) to at least the youngest 2 kids. Edwina ticks his Viscountess boxes (including not being a love match) but she is way younger and naive with courtship. I swear when she is getting comforted by Kate after the non-proposal dinner....she looks like a child! She is gorgeous of course but wow, I had to look up the actress to check after that scene. And I know things were different back then and they aged up in the show vs books but it threw me initially lol.

He's trying to protect himself as well as trying to protect his potential partners. Very sad what happened to his dad. Lady Bridgerton seems to be the type of person who loved her partner more than her children, at least at first. I'd imagine that Anthony was in his teens (or perhaps, his early 20s) when his father died. That is a lot of pressure to put on a young man! For Anthony's courtship, there is no heat between him and Edwina, whereas it is scorching hot between him and Kate! Then the horse happened

2023-05-15 19:47:53 +0000 UTCAlso I totally understand why Anthony is the way he is after watching his mom go through all that. My dad and mom were so happily married with 5 girls and my dad got cancer and died, I watched my mom go through the same thing. She was wrecked. She was truthfully not a mother anymore when we lost my dad. She stopped taking care of us and the house. We couldn't get her to stop drinking. It took years and years for her to become my mother again and by that time I was an 19 year old and had already moved out of the house and left my little sister's with her. Seeing my mom go through that and loosing my dad at 45 from cancer is the reason I won't have children. My husband would not be able to handle life with out me well enough to take care of any kids we could have had. Cancer runs in my family so prominently that both sides of my parents have never seen a death that wasn't the result of cancer in the last 150 years of generations. I know I could die in a car any day but I am most afraid of putting anyone in my life through that kind of torture let alone creating a life to put them through loosing a parent like that. That trauma he experienced in this episode was triggering as hell. Also I'm allergic to bees so yeah I hate all of it. LOL
