If you loved this you would love Hadestown

Raina Williams

Lmao I saw it at a local theatre when I was 13 years old for the first time and I was sitting between my mom and my Rabbi as the two characters basically have sex with eachother on stage. It was so awkward 💀💀 but after that I rewatched bootleg clips. It would have been amazing to see the original cast performing it!! But at least sometimes it goes on broadway tours. That’s on my bucket list, to see the actual broadway version live

wow very deep! very intense! would definitely love to see it!

I’m so happy you enjoyed this album! This is my all time favorite musical. They songs are amazing by themselves but once you watch the full show, they become 10x better and more emotional. To answer a few of your questions, the bonus song isn’t actually in the show, I think that is Duncan singing. I believe it actually was in the original off broadway show (before it got picked up on broadway— still had the same cast, but the play was workshopped and went through some changes. Here is actually a link to the off broadway play (in clips as a playlist) https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL7CFE555F278799EB It’s kind of interesting because there are some dialogue changes and a lot of lyric changes in some songs “The Dark I Know Well” is actually a song about sexual abuse. Maybe it’s hard to catch without context but the kid singing mentions basically that the mom sees what happens and just lets it happen. And the father uses religion as an excuse. Two different girls are singing together and once they sing together you realize that sexual abuse is such a huge problem and happens so much but nobody talks about it. The song “I believe” happens when Lea Michele and Jonathon Groff are having sex. “Don’t Do Sadness” is when John Gallagher Junior’s character finally ends up commuting suicide (if you remember the previous song he sang “And then there were none”, where his friend’s mom talks about him “threatening to take his own life”. I’m sure when you watch the play it will answer all your questions. During the song “Whispering”, Lea Michele’s character finds out she is pregnant and her mother forces her to get a back alley abortion which kills her. The finale “Those You’ve Known”, is Jonathan Groff’s character almost taking his own life because now his girlfriend is dead from the abortion (Lea) and his best friend is dead from suicide (John Gallagher jr). But he decides to live on and be strong for them. Also yes I would definitely watch the HBO documentary “Those You’ve Known” about the musical.

Thank you for the reaction!! I was just about to get the nerve to make a suggestion of the documentary HBO made for the 15th Anniversary concert that they did earlier this year! It would be great to see you watch it now that you have heard the music!
