Paul explains how Shane was his really, REALLY good friend. After their last adventure they both agreed to live a more quiet life back in Shane's hometown on a farm, but Paul realized it wasn't what he wanted. He had to leave his old boyfriend because Paul knew he would be happier in the city and didn't want to force Shane to choose.
While this happens a kitty pays the guard a visit. A quick pet later and he's out like a light!
People who recall some of the older stories will recall this is a classic Wizard trick. ;D
