The golem (Florina) retreated to the lair of the Castmasters, which was magic-proofed and thus prevented Deacon from going further (lest he be defenseless). That's why he allowed Paul to escape so the others would do the job for him...
Anyway, Deacon continues to torment Coven. Perhaps a little too much as it causes the ice dragon to hide in a frozen coccoon.
