Delightful Duty Chapter 21
Added 2025-11-18 12:52:31 +0000 UTCChapter 21 of Delightful Duty, in which Qarl is brought in for questioning, Raylon scrambles to escape the hornet's nest he unwittingly kicked, Daemon and Rhaenys fly to the capital and inform Viserys of what's happened, and Alicent rages at Rhaenyra.
As a side note, this chapter contains a tribute to my favorite scene from one of my favorite fanfics of all time: The Blacks and the Greens by SweetestPopcorn.

If Rhaenyra has even a hint that Raylon mentioned he saw Laenor and Jon together at night, which she knows isn't true, it'll make her consider why he intentionally said that. She won't be able to do anything yet but it wouldn't be hard to think that he is trying to instigate something for an outside party. And that will make his task more difficult.

Because it clear that him riding Cannibal/Morghul was big thing, if you don't count Vermithor and Sheepstealer this black menace might be second biggest dragon to Vhagar which has a rider. I belive as of right now many people just in shock about children birth and Laenor death so they addressing the meter was subdued. Also didn't understand the point about Raylon worries. I mean he didn't say Qarl to kill Laenor he only said that he thinks Laenor and Jon are lovers. Which is just gossip, so the only thing they can accuse him is of being a gossip girl. On the other side his breaking Qarl jaw is what make him suspicious if people decide to look back at the event's. Well anyway really anticipating one on one talk between Daemon and Jon as they would need to know each other as "Father and Son" ))))))))))

As for Criston he will probably want to kill Jon just for the humiliation that he had at the tourney. Alys joining I feel is a good thing cause think about it what is one area that Jon and Rhaenyra are truly lacking in is a Spymaster she could fill that role.

I desperately hope he isn’t able to get away with being the spy… Alicent and Criston being pathetic as usual… at least trying to spread rumours that Rhaenyra was the one who ordered Laenor dead would be very dangerous and stupid. Can’t wait to see them blow a gasket when they learn about Jon. Not sure if Alys Rivers joining the fray is a good or a bad thing…

Personally I think he will but only after he has a spar with Jon to see if he is worth the trouble and honesty I couldn't see Daemon claiming anyone as his bastard unless they can be as good as him or better with a blade and speak Valyrian.

2025-11-18 19:23:28 +0000 UTCMaybe, but again I think it's unlikely they'll act overtly against Rivers if they find out, knowing who the spy is, is more useful and without a public trial with enough evidence it would be unwise to accuse/kill him openly him and cause a confrontation with House Bracken directly if the outcome is uncertain. The twins might be alienated as well and that would scuttle their hopes of pairing them with the Blackwood brothers.

Alicent is such a self centered bitch when it comes to Rhaenyra that if anything even remotely involves her then see thinks its a plot against her and her kids even if she had nothing to do with it. Qarl may have a broken jaw but his hands still work he could write out a confession and declare it true as a dying man in light of the seven seeing as confession of a dying man in the name of God are even today taken seriously.

Claiming him as Deamon's son is probably the most believable and offers the most protection though weather he would go along with it is questionable

There's still plenty of chances for Qarl to get the information out somehow, likely to Jon or Rhaenyra, who won't be able to act on the information (Raylon 's right that Qarl's testimony now is dubious) but could still use it once they identify Raylon as a spy. Probably to pas son false information or something, provided Raylon is stupid enough to keep doing it given how frightened he is now. If it's the latter then best we can hope for then is Rhaenyra and Jon to flip him as their double agent with the threat of painful death even if they can't publicly accuse him.

He doesnt need to be awake for it, have the guards drug him asleep, then his jaw is fixed miraculously so his conspiritors can be named. But theres no reason for that.
