February Patron Poll

Hello everyone, Kirk here

The results of the Patron Poll from Discord are in.  The TOP result I removed from the list, as I'm working on getting Elizabeth to do a full movie analysis of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.  Once she's healthy and can sit longer than 30-40 minutes without needing to lay down, we'll get some of these movies watched.

In the meantime, here are your results.  I added BOTH runner ups, as per ethics, I have to!

Please watch through the playlist before voting on any of these songs.  Know the competition, don't just vote for the one you know, please.  We're looking for what would make the BEST vocal analysis or compositional analysis for Elizabeth, and for the community.

Best,
Kirk

I'll throw this one out there.... Holy Wars is a project started by Kat Leon and Nick Perez. What they are doing reflects many genera and is truly innovative. Read Kat's lyrics. She pours her heart out and touches yours and Nick's arrangements are the perfect vehicle for this gorgeous trauma. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYt-QVgYUoY Also from the same EP https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68JpR4ehwiA

Keith Fosberg

Not on the list. But an artist you've not done before I would love to see you analyze is Jim Croce. Specifically "Operator" from Midnight Special. https://youtu.be/48Kiv8uhL7o?si=e2FiCsppuN_CNhKz

Donald Probst

You need to review the Baldurs Gate soundtrack

AARON

Your local patreon viking weighing in, lol. I love my cousin, Björk! I also think there are better examples of her work: "Big Time Sensuality", "Hyperballad", "It's Oh So Quiet"... but her band The Sugarcubes, as well! "Birthday" (in Islanska) is incredible!!! Please & thank you! ❤️‍🔥 Edit: And "Gold" from TSC! And since we're talking Icelandic bands, pls chk out Vök! Beautiful, truly ❤️

Hilsy1976

I'm sorry, but IMHO Bjork is really overrated. I've tried to get into her music a few times and it really does nothing for me. I would literally prefer any other song on the list over her.

RICHARD

I strongly second this.

RICHARD

There are 3 different vocals I would love to hear you analysis on. Eric Burden and the Animals House of the Rising Sun, Danny Joe Brown of Molly Hatchet and John Fogerty of Credence Clearwater Revival

Fred Barraclough

Björk is my cousin and is amazing!!! "Hyperballad" is wonderful, as well! Hopefully this will transition into some "The Sugar Cubes" analysis 🙏🏼

Hilsy1976

I don't think you can go wrong on this list as far as vocal analysis. My gut tells me to go with the performer Elizabeth has heard the least of.

Donald Probst

As someone who has spent 20 years shadow casting The Rocky Horror Picture Show... this makes me so happy!!!

Moose harris

When are you going to cover the Baldur's Gate 3 soundtrack?

AARON

At some point, I'd love for you to cover Mazzy Star's Fade Into You: https://youtu.be/ImKY6TZEyrI

Richard W Norton

I'm old enough to remember when most of these were new. I guess it depends on what you are looking for in the dissection. Bjork if you go for strange and interesting, Journey if you want to see the best arena ballads in the world, and, for me at least, Mike + The Mechanics if you're looking for wonderful lyrics. Plus Cream for great guitar solos. Tough choices this month

Wes Voss

Would love to see you return to The Warning, but, some of their live stuff. Disciple, or the VMA performance of Evolve.

Mike

And whenever I hear "Stayin Alive" I don't think of the movie Saturday Night Fever as much as I think of the bar scene in the movie "Airplane!"

Norman Pearce

I picked Bjork. I'm not so fond of that particular song, but her voice is so distinctive, and that video is crazy!

Amanda Nott

Disclaimer: I'm a boomer and I had a live Cream album on cassette decades ago. That memory may be why the 2005 video was so shocking to me. They were so old, and two of them have since passed. I actually felt very sad watching this "White Room." As for the Bee Gees, I lived through disco and watching "Stayin Alive" gave me no desire to relive that era. I voted for Bjork. Her videos are weird, but her voice is just what this channel was meant for.

Norman Pearce

I would love to see your perspective and analysis on the "Bridge City Sinners" sometime. https://youtu.be/uRHrXNyaeLc?feature=shared

punkpatio

Did you know they were formed from members of Genesis?

Ben Gallegos

It’s kinda hard for me to pick one. There are a couple on here. I’d like to hear but ultimately, I think it will come down to the song I think Elizabeth will have the most fun dissecting. I think I’m gonna go with Björk even though I don’t really care for the song, the video is mildly intriguing.

Mike McPeek

I would have voted for The Warning; But next, I think we should get something to E that showcases Pau singing lead. I'm holding out for '23'.

Doug El

Woeful commercial fm radio playlist. I'm out.

Ulahhh

Again, came very close to getting AVATAR on this list. It's gonna happen this year, I betcha

Mr Dinosaur

My exact choices as well.

Mike Barnett

Tough choice. There are a few artists on here that I’ve hoped would get the treatment since I started watching the channel although I would’ve picked different songs for my top 2.

Gregory Weston

sorry to hear elizabeth is so low. rest and get well

barbara tyger

the warning #2 though i liked the bjork video the best. theyes the other 2 played. stil cream, the warning 2. mike not at all, aside from bjork the others not much

barbara tyger

Playlist has been adjusted now.

Alvvays667 (Ruben)

Playlist has been fixed.

Alvvays667 (Ruben)

The playlist should show correctly now.

Alvvays667 (Ruben)

Two stand out choices for me. Cream, and Mike and the mechanics. Both are superb vocal performances 👏 👌

Colin Rhodes

Gell well soon.

Colin Rhodes

I really hope Elizabeth is feeling better soon!

David G.

The Warning!! S!CK 🔥🤘

Mike Whitney

Mike + The Mechanics has an incredibly deep meaning for me. My Dad listened to it (with young me in the passenger seat of his pickup truck) very often after he lost his Father, and then I listened to it when I lost my Dad. It reminds me of the two wonderful men I got to learn how to live and learn from, and helped shape me into the man I am today. This song flashes me back to some very powerful, very formative memories from two distinct and equally impactful times in my life. I watched my Father grieve lovingly and gracefully over the loss of his Dad, and later on it reminded me how to process things when my Dad passed away. I hope you will eventually get to react to it… it’s very, very special to a lot of people.

Phillip Rosenow

Wow I didn't realize Elizabeth was still suffering from the post-covid symptoms. Hoping she continues to improve and recuperate!

Ken Goach

BJORK BJORK BJORK

Brian Collis

The playlist is not showing up correctly...I'm seeing Sweet Transvestite and I'm not seeing Journey or Mike & The Mechanics. I'll look those up separately...but so far, for me I'm going to have to go with the Bee Gees. People who knew me back in the 70s would be horrified! I was very anti-disco and any group/singer that was doing disco. I'm older and more mature now (I hope!), and I can't help but give respect after seeing that video-20 odd years after the song was popular and they really nailed it at that Las Vegas performance!

Mike Grattan

Note on the Bjork song: she's singing in a different key than the music. I actually had some fun with this and separated the vocal and futzed with it so that it's in the same key.

Tung

I couldn't see Journey or Mike + Mechanics either.

Christopher Baugher

just played the videos for journey and mechanics so will still pick cream but i liked the bjork video the best. but that bass on cream love it. i liked that and the warning the best as music to listen to

barbara tyger

i did not get the last 2 songs video journey and mechanics so liked cream the best maybe not. all of a sudden i got 1 minute judas priest painkiller giving his all on stage. a shock from what elizabeth has said about singing as rob halford is all hunched down on 1 knee throwing high notes and at 66 yrs old.? anyway.

barbara tyger

Yes rest is EVERYTHING for Covid recovery ❤️‍🩹 I have unbeknownst to you, been on this corona journey with you. My 1st time! I’ve lost a lot of people to this beastly virus. I called it the heavy pillow disease! I actually asked my husband if he thought there was something wrong with my pillow because when I knocked it on the floor it was just too heavy to lift. it was soooo heavy. Weak! Being physically weak sucks!!!!! You must rest. We will still be here! 🖤🤘🪨

KJ Pickle

Several real good ones here. I pick M&M Living Yrs as it has a deep meaning to me. I loved it when it was new, but 7 yrs. later it meant whole lot more. Journey's song is always a good listen- Hell The Warning is the only one I don't know and like. Yet. #Bringiton!

Andrew Warwick

Clapton is one of the best guitarists of all time, but Bjork is one of the most fascinating vocalists of all time. For her uniqueness, and for being one of very few artists who’ve written in locrian mode, I’m choosing Bjork.

Ben Gallegos

I got a fever.... and the only cure, is more PauBell! (It's S!ck) 🤘⚡🤘

Gman

Damn, that’s a tough list. But I really want to hear what E has to say about Bjork
