My grandma had so many stories about her sister being a jehovah's witness and not letting her ever have like a birthday party and whatnot

Legenb3rry

Also as a child I’d pray and god never helped me out in any situation , they always say god works in mysterious ways but it felt like he didn’t work at all

Jakin Gurgitor

My moms side of the family refuse to talk to me and my mom Bc we aren’t jehovah witnesses anymore , I haven’t talked to any of them since I was like 5 and now I’m almost 20 , religion is a parasite in my eyes the more someone listens to it the more blind they become . All power to you if you follow religion but I’ll never look at it without bitterness

Jakin Gurgitor

Oh that also reminded me of this girl I’m friends with and she recently got baptized and apparently got the demons prayed out of her and she ‘screamed at the top of her lungs’ 😀

I’ve been having problems with this kind of shit recently and my boyfriend is very adamant on me being religious but I’m just not into it and I couldn’t figure out why I didn’t see another option but I don’t feel as bad for just not getting into it. Ty guys <3

Kath

As a person who didn't grow up religious or going to church (even though my parent's were and used to go) hearing y'all talk about your youth groups and churches just sound so culty

I won't make an essay about religion on supermega patreon lol. But generally I guess people sometimes want to do decent and shitty stuff. But people don't want to just say "oh, I want to do that". So they make up excuses, one of these being religion. Like, the idea of a father like figure saying "i get you, you are on the right path". Fuck that, just get control of your life

Gabriel Sant'Anna

I remember just slowly not being interested and felt religion as almost a shackle I guess. I remember When I got caught smoking weed my dad made me go to church on Christmas eve and I haven't been in years. And not only did I have an eerie feeling of being there. The songs felt ominous and some of the church goers wouldn't stop staring at me. So the whole experience made me feel unwanted. My dad asked if I had a good time. And no. No I did not.

that feeling of being "left out by god" hit me, that sounded like a scene from a movie or something

Religion literally made me want to kill myself. Leaving faith behind was the best thing I ever did in my life.

Lee Taggart

YOOOO! I ALSO WENT TO LAKE JUNALUSKA ON CHURCH RETREATS!

Chad B Reese

I was raised catholic and fell out of it somewhere between ages 6-8. Too many fucked up things happened at a young age to believe in any sort of "god" with a "plan."

Justin Swanson

Just talk about BB for a whole episode?

Ethan Collins

Because there are no rules to what reality can be, there is reason to doubt anything we perceive is real. Whether it be God or science or existence itself. The "truth" could literally be anything or everything, it could be ever changing, and whatever it is is likely far beyond human comprehension. Just like the universe, there is no end to this logic. Even if the Christian god does exist, what's stopping there being another higher God? So on and so forth. The search for the truth is just as meaningless as the answer, but it's a good way to pass time before we eventually all die.

I’d really love to have a high, unrecorded conversation with these Matt and Ryan about religion/worldview/philosophy.

Ben Cravens

I guess religion as a private thing is fine, and I think some degree of spirituality is natural depending on upbringing. I know that I do still have some culturally Catholic elements to my thoughts and beliefs even though personally I'm not very religious. I think as a kid it's very easy to tune out of it because church can be real boring, hence you get things like youth group. Personally, I suppose my issues with religion largely do come from the same type of questions as a child, and then as a teenager I started to show a strong distaste for organized religion and the authority element of it. It just bled into me being personally not very religious either. Anyway this is your reminder that Mark Wahlberg beat the shit out of a Vietnamese shopkeeper as a teenager. What's God got to say about that, huh?
