Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle Movie Reaction

Adam is officially all caught up on Haikyu!! It has been quite the journey, but I am so happy he made it to this point. The perfect ending to get us ready for what's to come 😍

Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle Movie Reaction

Comments

I really hope you can read the comic and share it. I'm very sorry that too many highlights of the characters were cut in the movie, especially the past of Grandpa Ukai and Coach Nekomate, Inuoka replacing Kai and Yamamoto's psychological activities towards Tanaka and Fukunaga. Many of Karasuno's character highlights have also been cut or not described in detail. For instance, how Kageyama and Hinata broke through the cage set by Kenma, the efforts made by the other players of Karasuno to create opportunities for Hinata, why Hinata is good at long attacks in the third rhythm (this part is really very touching),Nishinoya's saves,The relationship of Tsuki and yamaguchi

Regarding the handling of the last ball, in the movie appendix drawn by the author, lev asked kenma"If the ball hadn't slipped at that time, how would you have organized the attack next?" kenma imagined that situation and thought of a drawn-out battle with no end in sight And he said that just thinking about it made him so exhausted that he didn't want to fight anymore😂. Moreover, for the Cat vs Crow competition, the most important thing in this competition is not the result,The author does not want to show that one side wins because of strength and the other loses because of weakness. so this is a very gentle way of handling it by the author

It actually sucks how a lot of things from the manga were left off, especially Kageyama's moments and play.. But they decided to do a movie so it's not surprising to not be able to include all the details. But like Sarah I watched this twice.. during fan premiere night (which was awesome bec it was like watching volleyball with friends haha the screaming and reactions were amazing) and regular screening.. CRIED A LOT.

Chel

Hey both! So excited that we’ve caught up with the anime. I have 2 qns and I'd be so happy if both of you could answer them: 1. Aside from volleyball, what do you think would be the most suitable career for each character base on personality? 2. If Sarah had to play beach volleyball with a character, who would y'all pick? Thank u!! <3

hiraKokonut

WOW. we are here! absolutely epic, get to watch along with yall one more time. It's end of an era ): sad sad but so happy to be here.

Eugene

watched it a hundred times and it hits the same over and over

I loved the Kuroo/ Kenma mini-arc as I identify a bit with Kenma. While the end of the game was a heartbreaker I think it fit Kenna's story better. The choice of focusing on just a few players seemed right given how short the movie was While I would have loved a dozen or ore episodes, I can see where the intensity and story-telling here was optimized for less than two hours. And the camera work - especially the first person Kenma view - my gosh! While it would be interesting to see a higher level Haiku!! like VNL level, I don't know if it would work. High School seems to capture a period of maximum growth for many and that's so much a part of the story. Thank you SO much for doing this - I learned a lot and realize there's so much more to learn!

Aaaah, the ending of the match controversy, lol. I think Furudate couldn't bring himself to pick a winner, but he knew Karasuno had to win, so he picked an option that didn't split them in as far as who is better goes but still served to continue Hinata's story. Let's also remember this is the first time Karasuno wins even a set against Nekoma. When it comes to what Tsuki says about Yamaguchi surpassing him, I think he's not speaking specifically about volleyball, but in terms of growth and personal achievements. I think there were several things very well done in terms of the production itself, like how loud you heard the ball bounce at times, in between other things. I have to say, I'm super glad I watched it in the cinema. I haven't heard criticism of the focus on Kena and Kuroo myself. That part of it is on the manga, but I think maybe people are upset so many great scenes from the match itself were skipped, that they might have preferred there was less of Kuroo and Kenma and more of those favourite moments. I'm sure someone has already filled you in on the latest update about what's next with Haikyuu so I'm not going to get into it, but just to say... the relief we felt at those news. Cause if you remember, before this movie, they intended to wrap up teh whole thing in two movies. Looking forward to you reading the manga. I hope for a readalong, book club type! lol

Man, so many thoughs on this... First of all, I really love Furudate's writing. In the beginning of the series Hinata was all about spiking and admires an ace like the Little Giant. He sucked at receiving, a skill season 4 was all about regarding his character arc. He finally learned the bliss of being able to receive after 4 seasons and fell even deeper in love with volleyball. It was a very huge moment for him. But what does Furudate next? To write Kenma trapping Hinata with his receives. Thankfully he still finds a way to fly with Kageyama's help :') I agree, the camera work is amazing! Especially the wide pan, showing how everyone moves at once. It makes it look more real and shows the intensity better. Kenma's POV was cool too. I watched this in the cinemas. When they showed the flashback scene to when they were playing in summer camp, with the cicidas sound echoing in the cinemas, it felt as if I was brought back to a nostalgic summer as well! I understand Adam's feelings about the ending. When the match ended I was just like Hinata "Huh? That's it? That was the match?". But I'm glad Adam understands the writing regardless. I was actually a bit disappointed that we didn't get as many different characters' moments as I expected. Hence, the Inarizaki match was still my fav match so far. But then I heard the movie left out a lot of other characters' moments. So I think I should join y'all and read the manga haha! Thank you for all the reactions, thoughts so far. Now we shall wait for the next movies :)

Inky

I never post in these things but thanks for the entertainment. You guys are def one of my favorite reactors. I hope you read the whole manga or at least this arc.

Zack

so a little tidbit about the last ball, it has been touched by every player on field during that rally, so it was actually everyone's sweat that made the ball slip, and that across the screen handshake is my number 1 "make me cry" haikyuu moment. oh and the manga, for time sake there was a lot of details left out especially the tsuki yamaguchi moment, and the hinata kageyama free middle ball moment that explains them so much better. I, myself, and prettyt sure many others are just dying to see sarah's reaction towards hinata's certain choice later on

HeatXtreme

The end of an amazing reaction run! I feel like Kenma when he finally beats a game. Definitely didn't tear up at all the points you both did, nope nope. I loved the animation in this, the sequences were insane. The first time watching it I was thrown off by how much detail and motion was going on at once. Still wish it was a season just for the extra depth, but time for me to read the manga as well! Also, when Adam was talking about the bond between Ukai and Nekomata, it made me wonder whether Adam has any similar bonds with coaches he's faced.

GGs!! Looking forward to the manga reactions!!

vernon grant

I teared up way more watching this with you guys than in the theaters. I cant wait for the next match!

Jeff Grant

This was the first anime movie I felt was a much better experience in theaters than watching streaming later. The loud sfx of the ball hitting the court and that first "bam" jump I could feel in my chest in the theaters. Also I'm very hyped that you are reading the manga because my absolute favorite part of the whole series will likely be what they end up cutting the majority of for the final movie.

PapaJohn'sNapkins

If I ever need a moment to hype me up, I just need to think about Hinata's reaction when he got Kenma to admit volleyball is fun. I know the way the match ended was kind of disappointing, but they really went all out with everything before that animation and play wise. I love how we got to watch this again with Sarah, and Adam is now finally caught up with us. The reactions were glorious. I know Adam was not able to watch the movies with us, but I think Adam made all feel at home with his presence before and after the show. So, it will be even better when he watches the next one in real time. Can't wait for the next one!

Fresh

I wasn't expecting this drop today and it totally derailed my evening plans in the best way hahaha.

Mysbis

actually what i think kenma was probably feeling when he “ripped off hinata’s wings” was in reference to saying he hates clearing a game more than a game over. he figured out the puzzle, he cleared the challenge in front of him, and since hinata isn’t “interesting” anymore (which hinata kept thinking about and getting upset over when he was out of rotation), it feels almost disappointing and empty.

emi

omg wait yall are reading the manga?? only the nekoma vs karasuno match or like the rest of it? i truly recommend all of it cause it will take a very very long time for the other movie to come out and even then there's still a whole lot left, so i hope you guys decide to just read the rest of it

juniebjones

also watch out for manga spoilers if you don't plan to read past the nekoma game yet, there is a LOT everywhere

farkzzy

Im glad you guys plan to read the manga because a lot was cut from this game and they focused on certain characters more in the anime adaptation. (this is why there are criticisms of the movie) but thats what happens when you stuff one of the most important games into one movie rather than the ~10 episodes they normally are in the anime. Theres a special and a movie announced but after those there is still a whole arc in the manga that has no plans of adaptation as of now. Its been a great journey thank you for being the best haikyuu reactors out there and enjoy the manga❤️

farkzzy

What a great movie. I loved every minute of it. Needless to say I watched it multiple times already. I also loved the perspective change when the movie showed the game through Kenma’s eyes. Makes everything look much more chaotic. Also, the red haired girl in the cheer squad is the Mohawk kid’s little sister.

Alex Chen

I'm so happy Adam's all caught up and can finally not worry about anime spoilers! Usually the credits has Hinata first, followed by Kageyama. The credits for the movie have Hinata, followed by Kenma and then a space before we get to Kageyama and the rest of the team. 🥰

chaosdreamer

I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THISSS!! Prolly my favorite match in Haikyuu, I love Kenma and Nekoma so much, and seeing it animated so well makes me so happy. The only complaint I have is they cut out the first part of Kuroo's childhood backstory. Kenma's monologue in the manga: "Shy. Reserved. Quiet. If you asked the team who that described, I bet they would all say me. I don't think a single one of them would believe me if I told them that Kuro used to be way worse than I ever was. Heck, I doubt Kuro even remembers himself." It shows them playing video games in silence all the time, cause Kuroo lived with his dad and grandparents, and sometimes they would all be out, so Kuroo would hang out at Kenma's house since they were neighbors. Kenma eventually asks Kuroo what he wants to do, and Kuroo brings a volleyball, and Kenma thinks to himself 'I meant video games...' When playing volleyball, Kuroo talks a lot more and he becomes more talkative and less shy. Super condensed version of events but that's basically the gist of it. I would've loved to see shy baby Kuroo animated but the movie is still fantastic regardless. Also, I understand being disappointed by the Kenma misplay ending the game, but I think Sarah got it right, it's all his effort and tenacity and drive that he's never showcased before and he finally feels that, and SWEAT being his downfall, very fitting, in an ironic sort of way. In my opinion, it also plays on the whole lore of the 'Battle of the Garbage Dump,' two teams who have always had a rivalry that never meet in an official capacity, a match that been hyped and foreshadowed since SEASON 1! And they finally meet officially and you leave it wanting more. A lot of the criticism of this movie imo comes from preconceived expectations. This movie is very much about Kenma rather than any individual player on Karasuno, and if you don't care about him or Nekoma then you prolly won't care for the movie either. It's pretty obvious pretty much every player on Karasuno besides Hinata and Tsukishima (Mostly due to his relationship with Kuroo) kind of gets sidelined and doesn't have any major narrative moments as big as Kenma's. But it makes sense to me. Nekoma lost; they have to wrap up those characters and their arcs since we won't see them play anymore, while Karasuno has another match to play.

Nathaniel Wanner

For the last 5 minutes about prior expectations, the producers obviously couldn't put everything into the movie. They obviously put more empathis into Kenma and Tsukishimas storyline, but the truth is, is that the film got maybe 20% and the manga has the rest of 80%. There is a lot that is gold which you can only read about it in the manga. Even if you decide to not share it through a media, we would still be glad to know that you have read it atleast for yourselves.

Kim Kjell Khan

I loved the movie and I’ve re-watched it so many times. I also loved your watch of it, it was so much fun to see your reactions. I dunno know about a lot of the others, I think there are some people who were sad they left out some points from the manga that were pivotal character moments, but you can only fit so much in a movie. Also, Furudate-sensei, the creator of Haikyuu has mentioned in interviews that Kenna and Kuroo were one of the early characters he created for Haikyuu and fleshed out their backstory so I loved that they focused on them for this movie.

weezy

OH BOY

Spider #13

akane is yamamoto’s little sister!

emi

Only thing that bothered me was that they had to cut some Kageyama manga moments due to this being a movie- but all in all, I reallyyyy loved the big focus on Kenma and Kuro!

Nuni

I've watched the movie so many times already and the first BAM jump always gives me chills. We NEED real seasons at least it's not just one more movie left
