World Anvil

Hello everyone !

Today I wanted to talk to you guys about plans to move some patreon content, notably lore files, to World Anvil.

I've...already rewritten this intro section several times because I kept getting lost in explaining what World Anvil is. So to cut it short, World Anvil is a website specializing in allowing people to create, well, worlds. With maps, articles ranging from nations to materials to ship classes, ect, charts, timelines, and a boatload of other stuff. In short, it is an extremely complete, highly organizeable and tunable tool for creating fictive worlds, and keeping it all straight.

The reason why I would want to move some patreon content to World Anvil is that, quite frankly, patreon sucks at this. It's not the website's fault, not really, as it hasn't been made for novels, but it has literally no integrated text formatting systems and erases pretty much any formatting of the text that is copy pasted into it, which is why chapters here look like giant bricks of text. Which is pretty much the bare minimum of what you need to comfortably house a novel, let alone it's lore. As it is it is barely working as a viable site to host the advance chapters for my stories, and a royal pain to use a lot of the time.

Thus I'd love to transfer to the infinitely (and I am barely exagerating here) easier to use, organize, ect website of World Anvil. HOWEVER. There is a core issue.

World Anvil does not have an automated patreon integration. Every single patron can be added...but it has to be done manually, and the patrons HAVE to use the same email address they use for patreon. And as anyone who has interacted with me know, I am usually busy enough that I forget to do some things.

So. What I am proposing is that I transfer the lore files (which right this second basically means it will only affect the Archivist tier, although I definitely intend to write some files for the Preserver tier as well) over to World Anvil, and any new lore files will be added there. I will not delete anything on patreon, but I will not add anything new there either. This will allow me to make much better organized lore, with vastly more content, including early access to interactive maps, plus timelines, a variety of lore articles, ect. On the flip side I am quite probably going to forget to add a few people every month, for a variety of reasons, and well, force you to PM me so I can add you and you can get the content you paid for.

Note that I am NOT planning to move the chapters there. I might consider it if this experiment is successful, but I am not planning to at this time because I do not have much experience with World Anvil's manuscript system.

In any case, here is a short list of pros and cons of doing this as I see them :

Pros :

-Vastly better tools for worldbuilding, including text formatting, linked articles, highly complete sorting system, interactive maps, timelines, ect ect ect.

-Vastly more user friendly interface than patreon.

-Quite simply looks much better even at its most basic level.

Cons :

-Will require an account using the same email as the one used on patreon.

-Might require a few people every month to message me to give them access, due to me forgetting to do it.

Note that the vote, as always, is indicative. I will take it into consideration of course, but it will not necessarily decide my decision in the end.
