Humble Pie, Page 6 - Process

I'm excited to show a bit more of my process here on Patreon, starting with the pencils and inks for the sixth and final page for the commissioned Humble Pie comic.

I'm not sure how widely known this is but I do use traditional materials and methods up to the coloring phase. I begin by sketching out the page in non photo blue pencil. Blue pencil is great because its very easy to knock out in Photoshop, bypassing the need to erase sketch lines by hand. After pencilling, I ink using a soft Pilot Pocket Brush Pen, which has a nice left of bounce and firmness to it. I'd recommend it if you're looking to really get into inking and calligraphy. Finally, I scan the page at 400 dpi and open the scanned image in Photoshop. There, I remove the blue sketch lines and use "Threshold" on the lines to make them nice, crisp and stark. Basically, Threshold makes sure your image is nothing but 100% black and 100% white in color, no grey anywhere.

I hope y'all found this post inciteful and/or interesting. Let me know your thoughts, if you want to see more posts like this, etc.

Feedback is always welcomed and encouraged!

Definitely inciteful! Especially since I'm trying to start drawing myself! After the last picture I was honestly a bit concerned that she wouldn't look tight enough to pop in the end but after seeing this she definitely looks adequately explosive lol! Can't wait to see more!
