Added 2025-10-14 10:13:02 +0000 UTCI was listening to a Podcast recently and the host was talking about how much he loved this Silent Hill game. Put it this way, I found myself very interested to see what magic this game had over him. I see the allure now.
A New game in 2025, perfect season/month for it and I've never ever, seen or played a Silent Hill game. The stars aligned, the birds were singing, fate has spoken... and who am I to not listen. Play The Tape!

I do enjoy the fact that you're getting into the series but usually I'd also suggest people start with silent hill 2 first as that game stood the test of time of storytelling in a video game, the remake also has good cinematography.

2025-10-15 16:16:20 +0000 UTCFor the most part the characters in the Silent Hill games have always felt "off" in a good way that you can't get a read on them 100%. The games have also been open to a bit of interpretation because there are two stories going on at the same time. There is what you see and taking it as it is and then there is the underlying story with everything being symbolism for something. Kinda like watching a movie or reading a book that has an unreliable narrator. Usually it takes a couple of playthroughs to unravel everything. Also with Silent Hill f, a lot of information is given in the games journal and notes spread around. Also a fun fact about sound design! Your body tends to try to mimic or align breathing and heartbeat with what you hear. That's part of why music in horror is so effective because your body can't keep to a rhythm that keeps changing and hearing someone short of breath can make it feel harder to breath.

No spoilers So for Silent Hill f there are 5 endings, and one of the requisites for 4 of the 5 endings is to have reached the first ending and play a new game plus. And for reaching each other ending there are other specifics for each one, but basically the first time you complete the game, no matter how you play or whatsoever, you get the first ending, and the next ones will be dependant on how you replay the game after. And for Silent Hill 2 for example, the mechanic to reach each ending was in the gameplay itself, with how many monsters did you kill, how much time did it take you to reach the ending, how many medicines you used, etc. And about you asking if Silent Hill has this type of characters or stories, lets say kind of. The story behind the original town is that it was built in a land that was sacred to the natives, connected to dreams, and its meant to serve as some kind of purgatory or place where people who have done wrong things will face their sins. So basically the monsters and things that Hinako sees are real things that the town generates just for Hinako. So if a child would wander around the town while Hinako is there, that kid wouldnt see any of those monsters, maybe not even see any monsters at all, and would see just an empty town without even the mist. The lore about Silent Hill has gone through changes over games and so, but thats the most consistent thing about the town so far.
