Added 2025-05-18 14:51:49 +0000 UTCThe Marmite game is how I see this title. A game where I'm really enjoying the story but as you see in real time, my excitement and passion for it is slowly fading, but why? In the review section I go into more detail as to why I feel this way.
Am I going to call it quits on this title? Absolutely not, I don't do stuff like that and I really am enjoying the story that Kojima is trying to tell. I've decided to change the video that we're watching so Part 4 will be a much more faster experience and a slimmed down version of the game.
A lot of something little can really start to add up but lucky enough, I'm stubborn and I want to know what will happen in the end.

In regard to Sam's silence, I don't think they were concerned with cost cutting considering how much dialogue is in the game. I do believe it fits his character - he barely speaks to people, he's going to be even more quiet alone. I talk to myself all the time, but it would be out of character for him to, he internalizes it all. And as you pointed out, it might be reflective of Japanese culture. My Japanese grandfather spoke about as much as Sam, almost never expressing his thoughts with our family. Also, I think you want Sam to be the hero, but he's more of a reluctant hero or anti-hero so he's not doing what you want. Which might be the feeling Kojima is trying to elicit from us.

It parallels to space pioneering where resources are finite and must be efficient. So when you compared the style to Mars at one point I think you hit the nail on the head; it seems like Kojima is conveying how alien our world has become.

2025-06-01 17:18:00 +0000 UTCSadly you can't see it in a YouTube video that has to cut the copyrighted parts, but the best moments in Death Stranding for me were the long expeditions, traversing the challenging terrain and it all culminating with a new song playing near the end with a beautiful vista as the cherry on top. The experience of playing death stranding and watching a video with just the cutscenes is really different. The video that was chosen isn't really helping. Keeping all the conversations at the end of the expeditions, really?

2025-05-20 14:09:05 +0000 UTCThe game is 100% "you love it or hate it" You're actually making very valid points, the only thing is that they are made within the context you have, but the game is not about destination but about the journey, which build a foundation of this game (though I have a feeling that even if you play it you probably won't love it :) ) The funny thing e.g. but if you will make the dialogs more dynamic or responsive I think it would actually break the immersion :) The game is about lost connections, loneliness, isolation.. you're on a very long journey, alone, in a wide empty space.. and when finally you're getting to habitat area, you're not welcome by a warm gathering, but instead there is a robotic response via digital device, and then you're going to your empty small room...

It just seems weird to me a character having a whole conversation with themselves and then buggering off back in their hidey-hole. Sam just stares on. I honestly think it's a Japanese thing though. In their culture, people literally stop talking and are silent, deep thought. Chinmoku (沈黙) A character that is silent is nothing to worry about or does it seem out of place.

2025-05-19 07:19:23 +0000 UTCI loved this game !!!! The Marmite Game would be an accurate title LOL, certainly a different experience playing this one. My game took just over 60 hours to beat which zoomed by like nothing ! At the same time however, I know more than a few people who couldn't get through that second cutscene LOL.

Death Stranding is a very pro-human story, Idk how to describe it other then that. It's highlights what is good about us humans, despite our faults. I hope Death Standing 2's gameplay is a improvement on its shortcomings, and makes it more accessible for more people. Sequels SHOULD bring improvements, so hopefully that is the case.

2025-05-18 21:30:18 +0000 UTCI think the story is good, but after seeing games like God of War, RDR2 and even Clair Obscure, it does feel like the way its being presented and all that its too linear and copy paste. I think that if the quality of presentation of the information was as good as the info and story itself is so far, this game would share the Olympus with the rest of great games we have been seeing. Thats my personal thought

Every scene that Sam is in even when he’s not talking is mocapped by Reedus (including gameplay elements like walking and hiking). They said the silence of the Sam is very much intentional and not a budget or time issue but just to fit the background of Sam and his emotional state.
