My washer does what Matt asked, it lies but by giving the maximum time. I noticed this the other day when setting off a nominally >3 hour wash, and after sampling the load, it changed to 2h15.

2024-07-31 06:15:59 +0000 UTCI definitely notice that my washing machine will sit on 8 minutes left for a while... it'll tumble for a bit, start spinning slowly, then stop and tumble for a bit again... lather rinse repeat. Took me a bit to realise it was waiting until the mass was balanced for the spin.
