Progress gif for Lunara
Added 2016-02-12 16:22:54 +0000 UTCMini progress gif for the Lunara image! I really tried to keep it painterly and not overwork this much.
Steps in order:
Sketch - messy base. Mostly fleshing out the main pose.
Refine sketch - using the same brush that I sketched in, I made a new layer and went over Lunara herself to make the lines a little cleaner and bolder.
Base Colors - On a layer underneath the 2 sketch layers, I blocked in the colors I wanted to use. I also set the "refined sketch" layer to multiply. I then made a new layer above this one, and set it as a clipping mask to the sketch. On this layer I painted over some of the sketch lines to soften them up and blend it more with background colors.
Refined background more, added some more lighting and fixed some colors
At the next point, is where I merged all layers into one, and continued to paint over it until I felt like I was done. This step was probably the most time consuming of all of them, as I went in zoomed in fixing a lot of little things and cleaning up lines from the sketch. Not a whole lot to say about these steps, its just all rendering and refinement.
Overall, I'm fairly proud of myself for getting this done in the time I did! I only have a few hours a night at this point to really work on things, but I think my speed has improved immensely over the past 6 months or so.
I still see a lot of flaws in this but at a certain point you just need to call it quits and try not to overwork things. :) I might pick at it a little here and there.. but I think its time I work on the next one!
