Blender Projects: Cirez, fully rigged 3D model

So, this is what has kept me occupied for the last couple of weeks! I've been working on a 3D model and animation rig for my good buddy Cirez! (The dance animation was not created by me, I just applied it to the model, the original source is mixamo)

For those of you who don't know what that means: Basically making a 3D model isn't enough. In order to tell a character how to move, behave and react in a way so it can be used for animation, you need to build a skeleton, but more importantly a setup so you can actually control that skeleton. That means figuring out how create control objects, that make the arms, legs, face and everything else behave so that they can be animated.

To give you a frame of reference, I followed a youtube tutorial playlist consisting of over 10 hours in total. (Linked here in case you are curious). It required rigorous testing and learning the methods of how to make it all work. I cannot overstate how much effort this all took. This has by no doubt the most complex project I have attempted so far. This is why I haven't had time for a lot of other things recently and why my output has been lacking.

So what was this all for? Well, this is a proof of concept. I wanted to make this for Cirez, so he could start making his own renders and possibly animations and in turn, I want to make Blender animations in the future too. Now that I have figured out the process, the path is clear and the next time I do this, it will be much easier because I now know what I am actually doing.

For 2025 I want to try and make short loop animations and then gradually move up to more complex projects. I have a lot of ideas and I am looking forward to realizing them (or at least some of them!)
