Laure - In The Spotlight

Seit einigen Monaten habe ich bei meinen Shootings immer ein LED-Spotlight im Gepäck. Manchmal dient es mir einfach dazu, kleine Akzente zu setzten. Manchmal dazu, das natürliche Licht etwas dramatischer werden zu lassen. Und hin und wieder nutze ich es auch einfach, wenn mal das Fensterlicht nicht genau den Punkt im Raum erreicht, den ich gerne hätte.

Am beeindruckendsten finde ich das Spotlight jedoch – so wie auch beim letzten Shooting mit Laure vor gerade mal einem Monat – wenn durch starke Kontraste das Modell vor einem ins Dunkel verlaufenden Hintergrund hervorgehoben wird.

Und gerade bei den letzten Bildern dieses Shootings spielt eventuell auch mein aktuelles Interesse an japanischer Fotografie, mit ihrem sehr eigenen, intensiven, persönlichen und direkten Bildstil, eine Rolle.

For the past few months, I’ve always had an LED spotlight with me during my shoots. Sometimes I use it to create subtle highlights, sometimes to make natural light appear more dramatic. And every now and then, it comes in handy when the window light doesn’t quite hit the exact spot in the room that I want to emphasize.

But what I love most about the spotlight—just like in my recent shoot with Laure about a month ago—is how it can make the model stand out against a background that fades into darkness through strong contrasts.

And especially in the last images from this shoot, I can also see traces of my current fascination with Japanese photography and its unique, intense, personal, and direct style.
