[Art Gift] A Singer and A Sailor

Well it's more accurately a request than a gift but most of the concept of this pic actually comes from me and I do try to keep this a surprise so I think it still qualify.

Speaking of surprise, that's right, another birthday pic we have here, this time is for Juicybox89 on Deviantart featuring his OCs, which from left to right, as the title implies, are Astronaut/K-Pop Talent Chloe "Lucky Chloe" Park (okay actually Juicybox and I talked about giving her a full Korean name and came up with one but then found out it sounded awfully similar to the real name of a real world K-Pop singer ROSÉ, known for her hit APT. she did with Bruno Mars), and, an actual Test Pilot Francine Carter, just got out of the airlock hatch ready to do their task but not before some poses to send back to earth. Looks like Chloe in particular have a good time there as she waved and winked into the camera with her body upside down, not that she did the latter on purpose because in space you can't really tell if you flipped yourself upside down or not, she just stayed with the position she had while exiting the airlock.

It was me though who feel like drawing her upside down in this pic, or for that matter; at all, and that brings us to the usual process detailing after we get through what makes me do this pic in the first place. So, it's actually a request, Juicybox came to me asking if I can do Francine having a spacewalk, and was rather hesitant to do so but accepting it regardless, but what drove me into doing this pic is actually Chloe, after seeing the concept sheet of her in the CASE Spacesuit Spottedoopla did on DA (you can check for the sheet right here for Chloe and right here for Francine), where I looked at the description and think "this lady looks more interesting to draw", not to mention that I always wanted to draw an astronaut from South Korea. Yup, a bit of in a K-mood as of this publishing lately, what with listening to ROSÉ's APT. featuring Bruno Mars a couple of times, considering replacing my phone with one from Samsung, just to name a few, But mostly just feeling like doing a South Korean Astronaut but don't feel like creating another OC for it (yet), so then I found Chloe and thought "You know what? Let's fulfil Juicy's request", not that I'm disregarding Francine completely as I also kind of wanted to do a Canadian astronaut as well thus I also still include Francine in the pic.

And because of that, doing Chloe's pose was rather more involved than doing Francine's in practice ^^;. Outside of doing both of their hairs from scratch of course, for Francine I just repurposed the pose of one of my earlier EMU drawings up to the shading, but for Chloe, I decided that reusing the shading won't work for the upside down view of her so her shading had to be done from scratch. Though still, bases for both are taken from my self-prepared ISS EMU template I've been using for all my EMU recent drawings.

And then the background. This came from my recent experience playing a lot of a Roblox game called Space Sailors, where you can play as an astronaut in various missions including walks on celestial bodies like Moon and Mars, so for this I decided to do a quick ISS Spacewalk just to look for the spot good enough for this drawing, and decided to go with the array of high pressure tanks around the Quest Airlock where you can see JAXA's Kibo module and the entry hall to a docked Soyuz craft. That was, well, quite an involvement but hey, we got what I had in mind on the pic and that's what matters ^^

I told my self "don't make this look too pretty, you're not paid for this" but hey, I think it looks decent and I wanted to do some upside-down EMU pose at some point and both Chloe and Francine look like they're having fun here ^^
