He was captured by the enemy. Luckily for him prisoners of war in this camp get tortured in a slightly different way. These torturers didn’t believe in simple murder. Instead they prefer to disable the fastest spriteliest soldiers. By force feeding them.
They stuff enemy soldiers until they are too obese to even consider trying to escape. At this point they don’t even need to tie them down. Take Ryan for an example. After one year of being fattened relentlessly he can hardly stand up his overhang is so heavy.
