Vampie Boyfriend: Viggo 2 (complete)

Viggo and I have decided to take things slowly. It’s been a long time for both of us, and we want to be friends before jumping into something serious. Not to mention Viggo has his daughter, Selka, to take care of. Ever since our first date, I’ve been a bit confused about that whole situation. He called that dog the sitter, which could have been a joke, but I’m not sure it was. I just keep telling myself it had to be.

We’re fairly busy people as well. I have a day or two off a week, but Viggo’s job can be quite demanding. Lately we’ve only talked on the phone or through texts. Amil hasn’t made any appearances at the store lately, and Viggo has said that he is somewhere on vacation.

“Must be nice,” I sigh. I’m washing dishes with my shoulder pressed to my ear to hold the phone.

“Oh, I’m sure it is. I haven’t been on a vacation in a long time.” Viggo chuckles. “Amil just seizes on whatever flights of fancy he has.”

“No, I’m saying it must be nice to have the money to go on vacation.” I set dishes I’ve washed into the second basin to rinse them. “Who dares to dream about vacations these days?”

Viggo laughs, then sighs heavily. “Tell me about it. I’ve been trying to save up for Selka, and it’s been near impossible.”

I wipe my hands dry and take hold of my phone when my neck starts to cramp. “I thought all vampires were loaded. Is that just a stereotype?”

“All vampires are...” Viggo scoffs. “Not all of us are rich. It is a stereotype, and it’s not a glamorous one. Amil has debt. The only things keeping him afloat are the businesses he inherited from a sugar daddy.”

“Oh, no.” I plop down in a chair.

“You never heard me say that.” I can hear the smile in Viggo’s voice, though. “And yes, I may be a doctor, but I’m also paying off a house, paying a sitter, and doing the whole single father thing.”

“Well, there go my plans of gold-digging.”

Viggo chuckles. “That’s cute, but if I had any inkling of that from you, I wouldn’t be on the phone with you anymore.”

I smile to myself. “Is your sitter really so expensive?”

“You have no idea what I’d pay for a good nanny,” he huffs. “It’s worth it.”

I keep thinking about that massive wolf, or dog, or whatever he is. I wonder if Sitter is just his name. Then again, why leave a baby with a dog?

“Are you still off on Monday?” Viggo asks abruptly.

I snap from my thoughts. “Yes, I am.”

“Well, so am I.” Viggo sounds nervous. “So, I was thinking - and feel free to say no, I know what we agreed upon - but I was thinking, maybe, if you wanted...”

“You’re rambling,” I giggle.

“I know! I’m nervous,” he laughs back. “But I wanted to see if you’d like to come over Sunday after work and stay the night.”

“Oh.” I’m a bit surprised by the offer. “You sure about that?”

“I want you to get to know Selka. I also want us to get to know each other better. I thought if we met here, it might be easier to talk.” He sighs. “It would be weird for you, though, wouldn’t it?”

“Can I think about it?” I ask.

“Of course. I’ll let you go for now. I’ll talk to you again later. Okay?” His tone sounds bright, so that’s good.

“Yeah, of course. Have a good morning.”

Viggo chuckles. “You too.”

I hang up and reach into the sink to pull the drain. Once that’s done, I go to my room and lie down in bed. I can feel a heavy weight on me. I still haven’t told him everything, so maybe Monday would be a good time. We can talk in private rather than in a restaurant somewhere, but still, the overnight part makes me anxious. I know he was just offering that so it might be easier after work, but I haven’t spent the night at a guy’s house in… well, maybe never. I can’t recall.

The next evening when I get up and head to work, I give him a call, but he doesn’t answer. I figure he’s still at work and can’t talk, so I just head into work. As I enter, I see Amil standing at the front desk, talking to Nine. The two instantly stiffen, and Nine steps away from the counter.

“Hi,” I say unsurely. “I’m a little early, so I’ll just...” I walk around Amil, but his eyes focus on me. “I’ll clock in and take out the trash.”

I go to the office to put my things into the locker, but Amil comes in behind me. As I’m trying to put my bag into the narrow locker, he sits down at the desk and folds his fingers under his chin. “My brother likes you.”

The contents of my purse fall out onto the floor. I turn and look at Amil and nod. “That’s good.”

He chuckles. “Don’t be nervous. This isn’t some ‘hurt him and I’ll hurt you’ speech.” He motions to the floor. “Pick up your things.”

I scoop everything back into my purse. “Sorry.”

“Nervous thing, ain’t you?” Amil chuckles.

“More awkward than that.” I close my locker, then go to the computer to clock in. “So, Viggo talks about me?”

“Yup,” he replies. “Thinks you’re adorable, quirky, fun, yadda, yadda, yadda.” He looks me over. “It’s nice seeing him this way again. He rarely lets himself enjoy things these days.”

“What are you doing here today?” Iask.

“Being nosy like you,” Amil says. “I’m here to sign off on some things, then be on my merry way.”

I glance back to the door. “Are you and Nine...”

“Friends? Maybe.” Amil speaks rapidly. “Are you taking the trash out?”

I nod and go to gather the garbage bags.

That night proceeds like normal, even if it is a touch busy. I’m getting ready to take a break, so I’m buying a peach soda when I see Nine glance towards the window. “Your boyfriend is here.”

I see the blue hatchback in the parking lot, and I suddenly get nervous. “Do I look alright?”

“You look normal?” Nine shrugs. “Why so worried?”

I hop to the office to clock in my break. “A lot of reasons, none that I have time to share right now. We’ll discuss it later.”

I leap out of the office just as Viggo steps into the store. He’s in a dress shirt and slacks, so he must have just come from work. “I’m sorry I couldn’t call you back.” He kisses my cheek as we greet. “I figured I would stop by on my way home.”

I motion to the door. “I just clocked out for a break. We can sit on the bench and talk.”

Outside, I can see swarms of tiny insects in the fluorescent lights. Their low buzz-hum has become an unending background noise to my life. As we sit down on the metal bench, I notice Viggo sitting closer to me, but he keeps his hands on his knees. I crack open my soda, taking a drink before either of us speak.

“What did you call about?” Viggo asks.

I gulp down the tingly mouthful of peach soda and nod. “Yes. I did call.” I work on building up my nerve again. “About Monday. I don’t know if I’m ready for a slumber party yet.”

“That’s fine. It’s just I haven’t gotten you coffee yet. I thought it would be cute to bring you breakfast in bed. But if you’re uncertain, that’s fine.”

My dream of that long, warm wake-up, stretching out on cool, clean sheets while the scent of fresh coffee washes over me, brought to me by a handsome man. That’s it. That’s what I’ve been wanting. “We agreed to take things slow, and I’m not sure if that’s right yet.” I have to remain strong.

I look up at Viggo, seeing some disappointment in his eyes, but his smile is still strong. “I said it’s OK. You could have no reason at all and I’d accept it.” He touches my hand, slowly moving his fingers into my palm. “We can just spend Monday together. I got Selka a new playset, so maybe you can help me figure out how to set it up.”

“I’m the wrong person for that. I can’t even figure out how to get the key into the lock,” I joke. We both laugh.

Nine is knocking on the window to alert me my break is over. The buzz-hum enters my thoughts again, but long enough for me to make a decision. I turn, and instead of telling Viggo goodbye, I tilt up my chin and place my palm over his chest. The kiss is soft, but it feels perfect. Viggo returns the kiss while Nine continues to smack his palm against the window.

“Ignore him,” I giggle.

“I shouldn’t keep you from work.” Viggo smooths his fingers through my short hair. “Have a good evening, Keira. I can’t wait to see you Monday.”

We kiss again after we stand up, and as he goes to his car he fumbles and drops his keys several times, smiling shyly at me as I go back inside.

“You’re so gross,” Nine teases with a smile.

“You only wish you got to kiss the cute vampire,” I mock right back.

Nine sticks his tongue out. “Hurry up and clock back in. I need to run to the pharmacy on my break.”

“Everything alright?” I always get anxious when I hear people talk about the pharmacy or having to pick up medication.

Nine moves to the back room as I clock in, going through his locker for his helmet. “Nothing serious, don’t worry.”

Once Sunday comes and goes, I wake up in bed with a nervous flutter in my belly. I get out of bed and make quick work of taking my medications, showering, and getting ready. Once I get to Viggo’s place, my hair is dry but is unruly. I’m trying to smooth it out when the door opens. I look up, expecting Viggo, but instead I see nothing. Glancing down, I see the sitter staring at me. Once again, I am faced with a situation I am ill-prepared for. “Hi?”

The dog makes a low ‘boof’ sound, then trots away from the door.

“Sorry! I’ll be down in a moment, just wait there.” Viggo calls from up a flight of stairs.

As I wait, I smell coffee and grow a bit excited. Viggo eventually comes down the stairs, his daughter in his arms. “Sorry about that, Selka needed a change.”

Selka looks up at me and then ducks into the side of her father’s neck. She has one red eye and one blue. “You’ll have to get used to her, dearest,” Viggo chuckles. “She’s going to spend the day with us.”

Selka barely looks up before hiding her face again.

“Come on to the kitchen,” Viggo says. “I have that coffee I promised you.”

There’s a small breakfast nook in the kitchen, where Viggo has me sit down while he serves coffee. He places Selka in a high chair, giving her a sippy cup. She looks at me again, and then quickly looks away when I turn to her.

“There we are.” Viggo sets the coffee on the table with some cream and sugar. As he does, the sitter comes walking into the kitchen. Selka wiggles in her chair, wanting to get down to him. Once Viggo sets her on the floor, she and the huge dog walk away together.

“You just let her play with a dog like that?”

“He’s her nanny, after all,” Viggo doesn’t seem to catch my drift. Maybe I’m not catching his.

“Well...” I stir my coffee. “Your home looks lovely. Can’t wait for the tour.”

“Yes, and a grand tour it will be.” Viggo clears his throat, seeming embarrassed by his remark.  “How was your morning?”

“Fine. I just rushed myself, is all,” I chuckle.

Viggo nods his head, then watches me. “Were you excited to get here?”

I sip the coffee, blowing on it when I find it a bit too hot. “Yeah.” I meet his eyes and smile shyly. “I couldn’t wait to see you.”

“I couldn’t wait to see you, either.” Viggo reaches across the table and takes hold of my hand. “After that kiss, I’m afraid I’m a bit loopy.”

I squeeze his hand in return. “I don’t know what came over me. It just felt right.”

“It did.” He smooths his fingers over mine.

I take a deep breath. “So, I feel like now is the time to tell you.” I look up, and he meets my eyes. “Two years ago, I had cancer. It was pretty bad. It started out as ovarian, but it spread rather quickly.”

His expression becomes serious. “Are you okay?”

I nod. “I mean, yeah, of course. I’m alive and everything. But in order to get here, certain things had to be gotten rid of.” I press my mouth into a tight line. “I had my uterus removed.”

Viggo nods, looking contemplative. “Does that bother you?”

I shake my head. “No, not as much as I thought it would. What bothers me is what people tend to say about it.”

“I can only assume,” Viggo murmurs. “But they hopefully will never have to understand that loss, so they can only speak of what they know.”

“I’ve gotten used to it.” I’m starting to feel a bit better for having told him. He didn’t seem to have a reaction, but he hasn’t taken his hand away either.

“And you are better, yes?” Viggo squeezes my hand. “Are you doing well with your check ups and everything?”

I nod. “Yeah, it’s been over a year now and everything is looking well. For a while there it was touch-and-go, but I’m okay now.”

“That’s good.” Viggo grins. “Is that what you were so hesitant to tell me?”

“Like I said, I’m okay with it, but I’m not okay with what people have to say about it. Sometimes, you think you know somebody and they still say something really hurtful.” I exhale loudly and slowly. “But you’re a doctor. I should have known you would understand.”

Viggo smiles and moves around the table to sit beside me. “To be honest, for a while I was worried you had a really horrible secret, like a reabsorbed conjoined twin or something.”

I giggle and give him a shove. “A reabsorbed twin?”

“Something to lighten the mood.” He gives me a kiss. As he does, I cup his cheeks, and move my fingers along the seam of his mouth all the way back to his ears.

As we part, he eyes me and slowly unhinges his jaw. “You’re not scared of the horrible vampire mouth?” he teases.

“No, it’s fascinating.” I reply. “I’ve looked death in the face so many times. This is a much more comforting sight.” I touch a tooth out of curiosity, not realizing how sharp it is. It pricks my finger, and blood wells up.

Viggo takes my hand. “Be careful. I might not be death, but I still have dangerous parts.” He kisses my fingertip and sucks the blood away. His tongue wraps around my finger, and when he pulls away the prick is already healed.

“Wow,” I marvel at my finger. “Could have used several of you a few years ago.”

Viggo and I chuckle before we kiss again. His long fingers brush through my short hair, then caress down my cheek. “Let me give you a tour, then.”

We leave the kitchen and he shows me around his home. It’s small, but it’s more than enough for him and Selka, even the sitter. When we get to Selka’s room, I notice a framed photo of a woman by her bedside. He picks it up and hands it to me. “Selka’s mother,” he says.

She’s a lovely young woman, with a curious twist to her smile. “What happened to her?” I ask. “Is she still with us, or…?”

“She passed.” Viggo sighs heavily. “We never suspected we could get pregnant at all, and the birth of a Dhampir is never easy, but she wanted to bring Selka into the world.” He sets the photo down on the table, and we quietly step out into the hallway. Viggo takes my hand, and we sit down in the box window at the end of the hallway. “She made it through the birth and Selka’s first year, but she got sick that winter and never recovered.” He kisses the palm of my hand.

“I’m so sorry,” I whisper.

“I still miss her, but things have gotten better.” He gives me a smile. “We’re all healing in our own ways.”

I end up having a wonderful day with Viggo and Selka. I eventually get Selka to play with me, and she shares her dolls so we can decorate her dollhouse. She tuckers out and falls asleep in my lap, so I tuck her into bed.

I end up coming back to Viggo’s house on my next day off, just because I promised Selka I would play with her. I end up spending the night in the guest room.

When I wake up to get ready for work, I go into the kitchen for coffee and see a man standing there, holding Selka. He’s huge and burly like a bear, and wearing a frilly pink apron. “Good morning, Keira. Just getting Selka’s breakfast. How about you?” He sets Selka into her high chair.

I just stare at the man.

“You’re always staring at me. Why is that?” he scoffs, placing his hands on his hips.

“Are you the sitter?” I am way too tired to process any of this.

“I’m the nanny, yes. We’ve met several times.”

“Woof! Woof!” Selka barks from her high chair.

I shake my head as it slaps me in the face. “The wolf...” I choke. “You’re a werewolf!”

He smirks at me. “About time you figured that out.”

Viggo steps into the kitchen, dressed for work and carrying a backpack. “Good morning.” He kisses my cheek. “And good morning to you, Sutter.”

“Your lady friend just realized I’m a werewolf,” he laughs.

Viggo kisses the top of Selka’s head as she lifts her sippy cup. “Oh, well, you keep going around as a wolf. I’m not surprised.”

“Selka likes it better.” Sutter turns and pours a mug of coffee for me.

Viggo takes me to work, dropping me off outside the convenience store. “Will I get to see you sooner or later?” he asks.

“Sooner,” I say brightly. I give him a kiss, lingering for a little bit. As I pull away, I suddenly get an urge. “Maybe I can have you over to my place one night.”

Viggo’s eyes widen. “You sure?”

“I mean, we could meet at my place or your place. I’m just still freaked out by Sutter.” I grin at him, giving him another long kiss. “But maybe we should talk before. I’m ready, though.”

Viggo looks me in the eye with a serious and contemplative expression. “I am too,” he murmurs.

“Really? You sure?” I’m growing more and more excited.

Viggo leans in to kiss me again. “Yes, I’m very sure.”

There's a slap at the window, and both of us jump to see Amil standing there. He taps an invisible watch on his wrist. “Come now, stop keeping my employees busy. She’ll be late.”

“Since when did you care?” Viggo steps out of his car with me.

As I walk into the store, leaving the two brothers behind, I see Nine behind the counter with none of his usual makeup on. He looks more handsome than usual, and a little more flustered. “This is a new face,” I say with a smile. “Did you get a late start?”

He scoffs. “Something to that effect.” He points outside. “What’s that about?” As he moves, his collar comes away from his neck, and I see bite marks that have healed but are still bruised. I smirk and keep it to myself. “Viggo dropped me off. Actually, is there a chance I could get an extra day off next week?”

“If you can cover for me this week.”

“Since when do you have things you want to do?” I tease as I clock in.

Nine looks back into the office. “Since you started getting rides from the doctor. So what do you say?”

“That’s fine with me.” I tie on my apron and smooth it flat. “So you and Amil, huh?”

Nine just smirks. “Go take the trash out.”

I end up getting the extra day off, and Viggo takes me out on a very romantic date. We go back to Viggo’s place, where we have wine on his balcony. After a while, we move to his bedroom. I shiver at first. It’s my first time since the operation. He’s gentle with me, loving. He kisses me and whispers to me how beautiful and sweet I am. He tells me everything will be alright, and he will always take care of me.

His body is smooth and cool, but when he presses his skin against mine, he feels like an ice cube. I realize I’m hot all over, excited for everything he wants to give me. I take him inside me and I almost start to cry. I feel so happy, so loved, and for a long time, I had been almost certain I would never find that.

“Don’t cry,” he whispers. “Is everything alright?”

I nod my head. “Yes, it’s perfect, Viggo,” I whimper. “Everything’s right, I just cry when I’m happy.”

He kisses the tears from my cheeks. “Cry all you want, as long as you’re happy.”

He moves inside me, taking my breath away and caressing every doubt from my mind. He fills me to the brim with joy, and even more than that.

I wake in the morning, curled up on the sheets with Viggo’s arms wrapped around me. I smile in contentment and kiss his bicep. He pulls me closer and nuzzles his face into my hair, breathing deep. “Sleep well?” he murmurs.

I roll over and nestle against his chest. “I haven’t slept like that in a long time.”

“I’m glad.” His hands rub up and down my back. “Last night was wonderful. Thank you for sharing it with me.”

I remember the feeling of his sharp teeth against my shoulder, and I shiver all over. “It was nice, wasn’t it?” I smile shyly at him. “Was I alright for you?”

He kisses me. “I told you, everything was perfect.” He snuggles me back down into the bed. “Now stay there. I’ll go fetch you a coffee from the kitchen.” Another kiss, and he quickly throws on a robe.

I lie in bed, giggling and happy. I can’t wait to see Selka, and I promised to help her fix some of the wallpaper in her dollhouse today. I slip on a shirt and settle back into bed. When Viggo comes back, I sit up and thank him with a kiss.

“I love you,” I whisper.

“Unfair,” he grins. “I wanted to say it first, but I still love you too.”
