Live Stream Update: I've Been Scuppered

Unfortunately, I won't be able to do live streams. Not yet, at least.

More unfortunately, I told you I would do something, and now I'm not going to do it. This is the most frustrating part for me. "Keeping your word" is important, I believe.

The TL;DR is that while I have my streaming software open, ONE of Photoshop's tools performs so poorly that it's difficult to actually work. Unfortunately, it's one I need. I've made a short video (above) demonstrating the problem.

More information: when I was testing out streaming, I was worried about the brush response. But it was good, so I thought I was all set! So I sent out that excited post yesterday. Afterwards, I tried actually flatting a page while streaming. Turns out, while the brushes are fine, the lasso tool becomes unusable. You can see this demonstrated above, but the video doesn't fully communicate how badly the lasso tool lags behind my hand/pen movements.

While my streaming software (OBS) is running, my Mac's Activity Monitor shows my graphics card (GPU) getting pegged at 100%. Apparently, the GPU is also what Photoshop uses to operate the lasso tool. Even when I quit OBS, using the lasso tool consumes all of the GPU's attention, so I see why the two processes are struggling to work simultaneously, even though one of them is simply drawing a dotted line.

I've tried a few tweaks and workarounds, but… we're all alive for such a short amount of time and I don't want to spend any more of it troubleshooting computer stuff. I used to do a lot of that, years ago, and I think I used up my lifetime tolerance.

Right now, the best solution seems to be to set up a second, streaming-dedicated computer, but that's a whole other project. Maybe in the future.

At any rate, the bigger promise I made you was that I would finish this fourth Delilah Dirk book, so that is what I am going to focus on doing. You're here for the book, I'm here for the book, let's see if Tony can stop faffing about, make these pages amazing, and get them off the computer and into your hands.
