Added 2023-05-11 17:07:01 +0000 UTCFlatting continues! Offering exciting new opportunities for The Me Of Today to be mad at The Me Of Yesterday!

I mean, not mad mad, only… I shake my fist a little. For example, you see that lattice work in the windows? Those might as well all be solid black lines. The lights inside are bright and the latticework is dark anyway. It all rounds down to "just make it a single solid black line." But what did The Me of Yesterday do?

Ahhh, he left them hollow, which means The Me of Today has to go and fill them in, which is fiddly and time consuming.
I have sent The Me of Yesterday to the brig for wasting my time. The Me of Tomorrow will almost certainly be upset with The Me of Today for treating The Me of Yesterday so harshly, but he's one to talk. Turns out he's The Me of Today now, so the only one he can be mad at is himself. I think? I'll need a flow chart.

In boat news, I saw this item making the rounds and was absolutely delighted by it.
A modern sailboat lost its rudder off the coast of France. They sent out a distress call. The nearest ship able to offer help was the Götheborg of Sweden, which is a replica 18th-century sailing ship.

Click through here for the complete story and a few more photos. The rescued sailors describe it in surreal terms, which… yeah, no kidding.
The ship's history is interesting, and if you're in Rotterdam, Hamburg, or Gothenburg, the Götheburg will be visiting you this year (the Rotterdam stop may be happening as you are reading this).

It's an extremely handsome ship, and looks to be loosely comparable in size to the one I mish-mashed together to be the pirate's ship in PRACTICAL DEFENCE. Fewer cannons, though, which makes sense if the Götheburg was a merchant ship.

Reminder: please fill out the Chapter Three Patron Acknowledgement form if you haven't already.
VanCAF! I'll be at VanCAF on May 20th and 21st, my first convention in almost four years. If you're in the area, come find out what a hermit lifestyle has done to my social skills. I'll be there alongside Jordan Morris — we'll dedicate your copy of BUBBLE! I'm pretty sure I remember how.
Okay, back to flatting.
Until next time,
I remain,
Chained up in the brig,

You know I know these things intellectually (the jeweller's loupe), but in practice, well… I'm sure you understand. :)

2023-05-31 17:02:41 +0000 UTCI know this is a horrible thing to say at this point in time, but I blunder in anyway: I don't think it makes an enormous difference if the leading on the windows is coloured in or not. It certainly still reads as leading. Maybe once everything is finished and painted, it might look a little "thin" (in substance, not width) but I don't think it would stand out at all. I suspect this may be one of those cases of looking at your comic through a jeweller's loupe when those reading it will be seeing it in macro, as it were.
