I mentioned a few items of archaeological interest last week. Here's another: I just learned about Mes Aynek in Afghanistan via this video. If, like me, you hadn't heard about it, it's an enormous, buried buddhist (IIRC?) townsite located on the old silk road. The team trying to unearth it is facing a number of dire challenges, like an impatient mining corporation, questionable government involvement, and (sigh) now the Taliban. It's not a cheery topic, but the video—which seems to put its heart and narrative emphasis in the right places—is well done.

Colour continues apace! Our toddler is still demonstrating an impressive capacity for unpredictability in his willingness to sleep. It can be infuriating, if I let myself make plans for his naptime (which may or may not come). But then, when he does sleep, he curls up like a little kidney bean and it's the cutest thing in the world.

It's hot here right now, which I wouldn't mind so much, except the mosquitos are as bad as they've ever been, so it's hard to find relief in the shade outdoors. Oh well. However the weather is or the bugs are where you are, I hope you're coping, and that Alexandra's continuing adventures provide a little spritz of joy.
