Chapter Two Patron Acknowledgements!

[ Photo credit: Olivier Guillard on Unsplash ]

Last year, for Chapter One, I prepared patron acknowledgements in the form of an olde-timey "Butcher's Bill," like the kind that would need to be prepared after a violent naval action.

For Chapter Two, I'm planning to present patron acknowledgements in the form of a "star chart" or "constellation map." It'll look something like this:

… spread over four pages.

This is thematically coherent with Chapter Two, and as lovely bonus, I expect the text to be much more legible this time around. I love the butcher's bill and how fun that was, but I wish it were easier to read. Chapter Two's star chart will be handsome and legible!

When I think about this work as a finished, published graphic novel, I imagine the Butcher's Bill and the Star Chart will be included just as you see them in the online version, added towards the end of the book, in addition to any more complete, fully inclusive patron list. They're too nice to leave out, and besides, I'm grateful to everyone who's chosen to get behind this book so early in its process.

IS THERE A FORM TO FILL OUT?

Yes, but you only need to fill it out if:

…otherwise, I will credit you as your name appears on the spreadsheet Patreon feeds me.

>>>>  CHAPTER TWO PATRON ACKNOWLEDGEMENT FORM <<<<

BY WHEN DO I HAVE TO COMPLETE THE FORM?

There's still at least a couple of months between now and when I need to finalize the Star Chart. I'll keep posting reminders between now and the cutoff.

WHO RECEIVES ACKNOWLEDGEMENT? (WHICH TIERS?)

All patrons receive acknowledgement, including you, unless you specify otherwise.

This may change for Chapter Three and beyond, but for Chapter Two, if you're a patron, you're on the star chart.

(My current plan is that INDIVIDUALS OF GREAT FAITH will be represented as individual stars, while BENEVOLENT SPONSORS and TRAVELLING COMPANIONS will be represented as constellations.)

What else is going on?

Lettering is finished! I start "colour script" work tomorrow (i.e., doing rough colour versions of key panels in order to determine colour palette choices) and will be sharing sneak peeks next week. After that: flatting and colouring!

Finally, the "musical number" is coming together…

I'm so nervous about it! I will share the whole thing a little later, though I am wary of talking about it too much or showing it out of context. It probably needs to just be the thing it is.

With lettering done, I'm starting to see how some of the initial principles ("make it weirder, make it scruffy," "listen to what you're writing," and so on) are manifesting, and the results are pleasing. This chapter feels so strange. In a fun way.

Next week: colour script stuff! Be lovely to each other out there.

Ah! This musical number is pitch perfect, Tony! Been wanting to attempt one for YEARS but could never crack how. Fantastic.
