Exciting! The pages are turning out better than I expected. I’m using a combo of Pentel brush pen, Microns, a Pigma fine brush pen, black watercolours, and my trusty ol’ Prismacolor Ebony Black pencils. It has been fun and rewarding, so far. I tried using pen nibs, and they put down nice lines on the Strathmore Bristol, but my favourite Arches drawing paper did not like the abundance of ink—I was getting all sorts of awful bleeding. Cobwebs all over the place. I will come back to pen nibs later, maybe, though I like the combo of Pigma and Pentel brush pens enough that I might not bother with the fuss.
Special thanks to Ben Hatke for archery expertise. I asked him if I did a good job AFTER I inked the panel, and he was very kind but perhaps I asked at the wrong point in the process.
I intentionally did not start on Page One. The thinking here is that I will be much better with my materials after thirty pages of practice, so I’ll save those first ten pages until that point. I’ll loop back when I actually know what I’m doing.
