A Small January Message

First: a big, big Welcome to everyone who has joined as a patron over the last month or so. You've all given me so many reasons to be optimistic about this endeavour and about this work, and I can only hope to repay you for that gift.
Second: a request! A weakness of mine is that there are a lot of things about artistic and comics-making processes that I take for granted. For example, when I was teaching animation students, I took for granted that you use blue pencils as part of the process. What I had forgotten is that at some point, someone had to explain why we use blue pencils*. When a student asked that question, it hit me like a tonne of bricks—oh shoot, yes, at some point that is something I didn't know.
With that in mind, if I'm trying to explain something about a decision or process, and it feels like there's a gap missing, please never hesitate to ask.
*Blue or other-coloured pencils are used during the early stages of the drawing process because A) they are visually distinct from, say, the dark lines of ink or graphite, which makes it easier to work over, and B) those coloured lines can be removed digitally without affecting the black lines of the graphite or ink.
