Proof of Life #189: Important scenes require good setup, right?
Added 2023-08-07 20:10:33 +0000 UTCHeya you gentlemen and gentlewomen, how is your morning/afternoon/evening going? Well, fear not, because this PoL will make it better! Or not, it depends if you like what you'll read or not.
First of all, I want to let you know this update will spend quite a lot of time on story and especially setup. I had initially planned to add two very important scenes in a very short span of time, and I instead decided to do things slightly different and to fuse those two scenes together instead. Some of you might already have an idea what those scenes will contain based on the corruption so far. Them being so important means that proper setup will be indispensable, and I've spent the past few weeks working almost exclusively on that.
Unfortunately, that means I can't really add H scenes back to back, and that this update won't contain as many as you might expect based on the length of development. This is further accentuated by the fact that, as I mentioned earlier, some scenes, which could have been two, were turned into a single one with different girls' PoVs. Also, there is some story mixed in there. That takes time too.
Another reason for the lack of scenes is that I tried to make use of the whole "military camp" setup to add small freeroams and silhouettes which aren't full scenes but take almost as much time to develop (especially sound-wise. It can get quite complicated with several characters). Still, we're looking at around 4-5 scenes in total upon release (5 is more likely), plus the freeroams and some smaller events. I just wanted to say that because I know some people are only looking forward to the scenes, so I don't want to disappoint anyone.
Another potentially disappointing news is that we probably won't see any Lily or Haylen scenes. Since the action now takes place away from the city and Leto's home, I'd like to focus on finishing this segment first so people have access to the reminiscence room before the end of the update. Also, that'll give me more opportunities to add freeroam events in the city after the big scenes take place. Update 9 and most likely part of Update 10 will be dedicated to the side-characters. Don't worry, I'm not forgetting about them ; )
Anyway, I'm going to keep doing my best until release. With me moving to another continent soon, this month of August is going to be pretty busy irl, but I'll work as much as I can.

2023-08-09 04:15:44 +0000 UTCThing is, I can't just release it earlier to work on Lily afterwards, since the very reason I decided to opt out of adding a Lily quest in this Update is because I would have too much work otherwise^^ To be honest, I'm probably going to do some work as well during my break in September so I don't feel too overwhelmed when I go back to working on the game and can take things at my own pace. Btw, yes, I'm still panning on having some Haylen and some Lily in the freeroams : )

2023-08-08 19:16:40 +0000 UTCThank god Lily will be separated from the main story Updatewise, i was on a fence whether i should ask about it under the previous PoL's but there was no mention of the side characters whatsoever up until now so i've tried to keep the questions to the topic of what each PoL mentioned. I like both Halyen and Lily and i want to see their stories progress but Lily needs a LOT of focus with how far behind she is compared to the other girls, i don't know how far along you are in the development of the Update but i'm pretty sure there are still a lot of things left for you to do so squeezing a short quest in for Lily just doesn't seem like a good idea. If i was you i'd release the Update a bit sooner and i'd start working on Lily's questline before moving to Japan. If there is one thing i learned from moving it's that something always comes up that's gonna require your immediate attention before anything else, and there is a big difference between starting the Update from nothing in a new environment or having a solid base that you can work with. I'm also pretty sure that since this is not a 9 to 5 job for you where you simply clock out at 5, you're gonna be working on it in your head while you sort out the moving. P.S: I hope the 2 freeroam events for Haylen are still planned!

Using your own work as an example HC1 feels extremely slow and while it is smaller than HC2 and 3 by a fairly significant margin, it also is so much more limited in scope that the game feels like it takes forever to get anywhere. Conversely once things get going in HC2 they kind of go off the rails. The high elf character's storyline, I never remember her name, goes from 0-60 almost instantly, the doctor isn't a rapist and then suddenly he is not only a rapist but also one with a hard on for whips and chains. You need to strike a balance for a game to feel right and honestly I think you've done that with HC3, you've grown considerably across the games you've put out and I don't believe you have much to worry about in terms of how you're balancing the scenes and the story.

2023-08-08 01:33:34 +0000 UTCIf I've learned something through 3 years of game development is that whatever opinion one person might hold, there is going to be someone who thinks the contrary. Some would rather I cut on the setup for more scenes, some would complain about the fact that it's all going too fast. Some are sad about the lack of story content, some find it boring. It's a fine line I need to walk to keep as many people satisfied as possible (me included)^^ Dedicating Update 9 to Haylen and Lily is definitely planned, and at least part of, if not all of Update 10 as well. They do need to catch up to the others, especially Lily.

Yes we're playing for the porn, but the actual draw is the corruption and the EMOTIONAL DAMAGE caused by the corruption. Without the in between there's no value to the scenes. The worst NTR is the kind where the main character is just shat on without much rhyme or reason. Plenty of NTR manga, games, and animations exist out there where the MC is just dumped on nonstop, and a reason is never really developed past "OMG ME LUV BIG DIK!" The more you develop the world, its characters, and the situations they find themselves in the more satisfying the scenes. We're not here for a slideshow. It's a shame that there's going to be no Haylen and Lily content, but I think most of us had assumed that was going to be the case. Rose and Cyanna are the primary women, they're going to wind up more heavily focused on because the main story revolves around Rose and Leto, and Cyanna is very important to Leto's position in the story. Have you considered maybe putting the main plot on hold for updates 9 and 10 to focus exclusively on Haylen and Lily? As in give each of them a full update of their own to push them closer in line with Rose and Cyanna's development? It'd give you a chance to possibly focus on something a little less story intensive while peppering a few free roam events for Rose and Cyanna to give bread crumbs to their fans.

2023-08-07 21:31:54 +0000 UTCFrom the PoL we've seen so far, I think we all already had in mind that this big update was going to focus on Cyanna's route, personally I feel very happy since together with Rose they are my favorite main characters; and as I said last week, I'm also glad that Alys and Eddie have participation once again (I wish it was like that in all the updates haha). Although I also feel a bit sorry for the fans of the other girls, I don't see anything wrong with you leaving Cyanna aside for a couple of updates after this update and concentrating on the other girls; especially Hayleen and Lily who are lagging far behind in terms of corruption and scene development.
