Proof of Life #142: More Story, and a Livelier City

Heya guys and gals, N_Taii here, bringing you the last PoL for the month of August 2022. Time really does fly, doesn't it? When I first started working on HC3, I never thought it'd take this much time to finish the demo, but I'm starting to see the end of the tunnel.

So, I initially intended to finish the story this week, but as I started adding a few new dialogues for the needs of the story, I went and added dialogues and new NPCs all over the map, as well as for individual maps, like the public bath, the casern, or the tavern. That way, one of the task I had to take care of after finishing the story is already done.

Who thought coming up with original dialogues for each NPC could take this much time, though? I've been trying my best to have NPCs say interesting things instead of "Hello", "How are you?", or "Beautiful weather we're having!". Some of them are also reacting to what has happened during the main storyline. Most recurrent NPCs (dwarf blacksmith, tourist agent, merchants,...) also have original lines for every single day. So far, you can discover the start of two mini NTR stories between NPCs while roaming around the city, which will unfold over time and turn into more sexy freeroams. I'm planning on adding a few more later.

That way, the Harbor District of the city of Luminia will really feel alive and ever-changing, which should facilitate immersion.

As for the story iself, I'm really getting close to finish it. You can see a glimpse of a series of new maps centered around the Duke's manor. By "new", I mean not seen in-game yet. I've actually finished them a few months ago. 

The interior of the manor, particularly the main hall, was a pain to make. I've already shared a few screenshot of it in earlier PoLs.  I never thought I'd be able to do it in an engine as limited as RPGMaker, but I did it, and I can't wait for you guys to see it for yourself. I'm pretty proud of the way it turned out. I also intended to make an extra freeroam on this map to add to the screenshot before publishing this post, but I didn't make it in time. That's one task I need to take care of after this.

Hmmm, 1+ hours normally, 15 hours if you suck at card games and need to replay the duels again and again. But more seriously, I'm not quite sure yet, as I haven't played the full thing in one go to test everything. Probably the same, maybe less? For now, my test purpose save clocks in at exactly 7 hours, but that's including the first update, and I had to fix bug, but I skipped through a lot of already proofread dialogues, so it's probably not accurate at all.

Yup! I've talked about this before, but those will involve a few NPCs over the map, who will have their own mini-stories within the story. As you progress through the main story, those NPCs story will evolve, and if you wander around the map, you will see different stages of their story, until it leads to the final NTR corruption. Some of those stories will start right at the beginning of the game, and more and more might pop up throughout the game. It gives an extra incentive to check out the map on different occasions, and look forward to finding more stuff ; )
