Proof of Life #96: Developing the Freeroam Part

Hello everyone, it's N_Taii, and I'm bringing you the 96th PoL of this page! Crazy how time flies.

About HC2's development

I'm more or less done with the story part. A few things to add here and there, but nothing too crazy. I've said it before, but I'm equally looking forward and feeling anxious about showing you guys this new update since it contains a whole arc of character development in only 1+ hour of gameplay, so I hope I got it right

Now, I'm taking care of the freeroam part, which will contain a few scenes with main and side characters (not the same volume of scenes as the previous update though) and should also allow players to access the reminiscence room to see some of the scenes that took place before. Contrary to the NTR ending, which had a greater emphasis on sex scenes, the revenge ending has more focus on story. Still, it should contain around 5-6 scenes of varying length.

Here, that's about all I wanted to say for this PoL. I'll go back to work now : )

About HC3's development

I thought I would at least get a few updates from the artists during this week, but nothing yet. I'm still waiting for the sprites of both main characters, the sex animations with the new models, and some more assets. Maybe I should commission a fourth pixel artist to speed up the process?

I hope I get the sprites soon so I can finally commission the first portraits of the female characters.

It would be difficult to do considering the NTR ending is already completed, and it wouldn't really fit in any of the remaining endings. I'll think about it, but I can't promise anything. Sorry.

I hope there is an orgy in endings . I know there is 6some but I wonder if you can including all female character in one scene like ntrpg2

I've sent the new sprite to all the artists in charge of the new assets, so they know exactly what to work with : ) I actually just received the two main characters yesterday and I like the way they turned out. They'll also have several haircuts based on what they are doing (the older sister character, being a city guard, won't look the same based on whether she's working or not.). I've been trying to contact a potential fourth artist, but it's been a week with no answers. I'll try again. I'll make the parallax myself, at least for the main maps so I can add mort spots fpr potential future freeroams. I haven't had much time to work on them yet, but I'll let you know about the doodads once I start : )

perfect! Did you show the artist that makes the hair for the npcs the unique sprites you are using? Then maybe this artist can also make the npcs clothings etc while the artist who made the naked sprites concentrates on the clothing, body art etc for the main characters as well as the portraits? I love that with HC3 you make so great steps in the direction of more and much greater pixel art. So excited about that. Your works will become real "artworks" ( ; . Maybe therefor, as your focus is so much on art, it really makes sense to involve a fourth artist. And if its just to have one on standby, you know. So if you need something done asap you have some kind of a emergency plan. How is it going with the parallaxes btw? You commission that as well or are you making the maps yourself? How about the links I sent you about doodads and all? If you need some help again, feel free to ask!

To be honest, unless it's for the biggest assets (or the portraits, as you said), I don't think a difference in art style is going to show. For all the clothing assets, I am mixing it between the artists based on availability. Since one is taking care of remaking all the sex scenes, I'm spliting the rest of the work between the other two. Currently, one is tasked with doing the original design + variations for the main female characters, and another is doing the haircuts for the other NPCs (basically doing several different front hair and rear hair with different colors so I can copy-paste them on the nude models and obtain different hairstyles). The sprites are small enough that players will not notice a difference between assets done by different artists.

Maybe : ) Then again, considering the revenge arc is mainly centered around him, we can say the probability of Noah having his own scene(s) is quite high^^

Maybe commissioning a 4th artist makes sense, only thing beeing is that they should have the same art style, especially when we are talking about the sprites and the portraits, but I am sure you have thought about that already. What I am also wondering is how you manage the NPC sprites. To picture a medieval city you need a lot of different hairstyles and clothings. As youre a not taking the "vanilla" big sprites that are out there with a lot of the clothings from the normal MV sprites but you have an artist who makes unique big sprites, how do you manage to get all the clothing variations and hairstyles together for the whole bunch of NPCs?
