Bat Boyfriend (special preview)

“Ok?” He chuckles. He kisses you again before grabbing an orange wedge. “Ok then,” he pops the wedge into his mouth then takes off his coat. He stretches his arms out, his wings unfolding a bit, having been tucked while his coat was on. 

“What’re we doing tonight?” Nerubi asks.

“Same as always,” you answer, bringing the dishes into the living room where he sits down on the sofa. “Watch a movie, make out, cuddle.”

As you sit down Nerubi wraps his wing around you. You snuggle against his chest for a moment before you start to eat. You turn the TV on and a news program is on. Nerubi then gets up to go choose a movie from your collection. 

As you start to eat a news story comes on that makes you go cold.

“Princess Maia has been traveling lately with her charity program. She’ll be making an appearance at the movie premier of her friend Rosalee Hubbard, before going to visit her fiancee Prince-”

Nerubi turns off the TV and you set your bowl of food on the table. “

“You didn’t tell me she was coming,” you mutter.

“I’m sorry I-” Nerubi dips his head. “I didn’t think it mattered.”

You ball up your fists on your knees. “Of course it matters!” You sniffle. “You’re supposed to be marrying her!” You rub at your eyes, not wanting to cry over this. “She’s your-” you hold your hands over your face as you start to cry.

“I’m sorry I-” Nerubi puts his arms around you. “I don’t want her to be here. Mother invited her since she was going to be at that movie and-”

You swing your arm, knocking him back. “Why are we even doing this?” You mutter, holding your arms around yourself. “We need to stop.”

Nerubi stands up. “Please, don’t say that-”

“No!” You stop him. “Why did we even start if we knew it could never happen?” You look up at him through tears. “You’ll marry her and I’ll have to watch it!”

“No,” Nerubi’s voice chokes. “I can’t-” he starts to cry. “I can’t. Not when I-” He steps towards you, putting his hands on your waist. “I love you. I don’t love her!”

You shake your head, looking down. “Don’t say that. Not now.”
