Frieren: Beyond Journey's End: Episode 1

I AM ALREADY CRYING WHAT

Comments

So the names in this series are all german words, that are all connected to the character in some form. Frieren means freezing, as in feeling cold. This connects to her as an elf being frozen in time. Himmel can mean both sky and heaven, connecting to both with his hair colour and him dying. Heiter has three possible translations. The most common one is happy, but it can also mean tipsy and clear weather. His demeanor and his love for alcohol connects him to the first two. Eisen means iron. He's a dwarf. Not a lot here. Fern means far. It's mostly connected to her magic and the rock. As an extra Ewig means endless or eternal, the connection to the life-extending spell is obvious. Something I also want to mention - whenever Heiter is called a "corrupt priest" the german version calls him "Scheinheiliger, which is a pun so perfect, you'd think the original language was german. Heiliger means holy man, but scheinheilig means hypocritical. but it can also be read as something that only appears to be holy. So whenever he act's unpriestly, he's called a hypocrit, who only pretends to be a priest. It's the perfect pun.
